Hello all - welcome to our February thread for 2018. Everyone is welcome and it's never too late to join in. We are decluttering our homes and keeping them clean and tidy(ish) as well as having some general chat as well.

We follow the Flylady method, and will post links daily to the missions via the Flylady website. For more information, have a look at www.flylady.net/

Here's to a fun February for all of us (with the occasional prod from the pointy stick of motivation and visits to the naughty corner Cake Brew Wine ) Grin

You know that I have been complaining about work? Can I just redress the balance by saying yet again it helps to have a good boss. Told yesterday that I can say no to overtime and that I should if I need to.

Anyway another long day today. Everyone fed no one dead kinda day.
Day off tomo. Looking forward to it but not the to do list that has grown to monumental proportions after being neglected for a week.

Wish dd would eat kale! Zoo

We are back home and dd is underweight again Sad and has a bad case of "bronchiolite". No antibiotics as yet but checking again in two days.

I feel very badly about the weight issue but she has not eaten properly for about eight days now and has just refused lunch. She has a temp so I don't blame her but don't want her to lose any more.

Any ideas anyone?

GoingGoingGoth · 07/02/2018 13:22

Thanks Zoo will try that.

SC you can't make them eat. I know we all lost our appetites during this lurgy. DD was on noodles and jelly. It's all she fancied. I think getting liquid down them is the most important. Fingers crossed she picks up soon.

Next Ta-dahs

Laundry
Dehumidifier on in DD's room
Rang doctors
Ring mother
Ironing

Still to do
Data inputting
Post Office / collect DD
Clean fridge
Pack away veg box order
Dinner
Washing up

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/02/2018 13:34

SCWould she have a smoothie/milkshake?
When DS is out off food((also has weight issues))dietician told us ram those in if poss.you can sidle in a clump ice cream or cream for calories, use banana as a base fruit as highest calorie fruit.he likes nut butter/tahini.half teaspoon or some nuts/sunflowers seeds if your blenders powerful enough,or ground almonds if not?
Failing that I would just concentrate on fluids or whatever she fancies til on mend then pump get full of butter and cream😁
We were told meat+dairy very good(think lasagne) for building calorie requirements
It is a horrible worry though.i all but pull out my hair with D's.today he's only one not with a sore throat and he ate 2huge bowls rice Krispies plus 3slices toast with almond butter and apple slices(grateful for small mercies, but where there Dickens it all goes in his scrawny frame I will never know)
Remember also how active they are when well.(he's a total sloth)and stressed(he's a worrier) all burn calories like Billy goats
If you want PM me please soFlowers

I've had a nap as dd2 asleep since 10.30.shes still asleep
In my defense I did wash all lower floors before I nodded off

CotswoldStrife · 07/02/2018 13:53

Is there an issue with her weight in general, SC? When my DD was ill all last week she didn't eat either tbh, just didn't feel like it. Didn't drink much most days although I did try and encourage her.

Really must sort out the kitchen, will do roll call later!

Steamcloud · 07/02/2018 14:33

Thanks all! Much appreciated! And love all the food suggestions!

DD is a good "doer" generally (as we say in the horse world Wink) and eats quite a good range of food now (can't fail to be influenced by dh and my piggy influences and the constant cooking that goes on here/where we live - often three of the top news headlines are food or drink related !) but she feels full quite quickly so her portions are quite small. So you have to make whatever she eats count ifyswim as you only get one chance!

Cotswold despite eating well/having a good appetite, she has always been a string bean and on the lowest weight for her height percentile but we have managed (apart from a few dips) to keep her just on the right side of the line with a few noticeable dips. And, blow me, she is still growing! She is 170.5 cm now but only weighs 49 kilos. Which is a BMI of 17 which is too low apparently (should be 18.5 to 24.9). She looks like skin and bone today Sad

Goth I think drinking is the issue now you mention it. She is not good at taking in enough liquid at the best of times and if she doesn't drink, she doesn't feel hungry. And noodles - in chicken broth maybe - is an excellent idea.

Zoo sorry, should have explained properly, that is the problem. Neither of us are keen on dairy but dd is better than me with milk (I never touch the stuff). But she doesn't feel like drinking anything milky atm. She could be tempted by an ice cream/fruit based smoothy though- thanks!! I am intrigued by the nut butters too (not sure if they have arrived over here yet).

Sorry everyone. I know I am being overly obsessive/very PFB about this but it has been a constant worry. She is lacking in iron too despite supplements and eating shed loads of mince beef/steak with red peppers and broccoli.

It is still a shock to me that she is so thin as she was so very chunky as a baby. One of those baby's that people look at and say "gosh, she is looking very healthy" I couldn't see it at the time but looking back at the photos she was a right little beautiful porker Grin

Apologies! I'm just worried because she didn't have that much to lose in the first place and this bug has really set her back. Back to Flying ... !

Steamcloud · 07/02/2018 14:47

Think you are heroic to go swimming in this weather Foxes! Well bloody done!

Thank you for the reassurance Zoo - those are very good points about activity levels and stress - I will pm you after this week about this probably when things calm down a bit! Ta very muchly! Sorry to hear your two are still battling with their throats and are generally under par. I hope they both feel substantially better soon.

Great lists Zoo/Goth/Foxes!!! Star

Whoknows Glad you are feeling better. That's a great idea about writing down one great thing and one thing achieved every night. I am going to borrow it. I am finding that my own anxiety is increasing atm (must be my age) and little things floor me now that I would have breezed through in the past. I am glad you are finding these strategies helpful as constant anxiety is horrible and draining. I am also in admiration of Cag's coping techniques and the steady determination with which she is carrying them through! Smile

[Btw - I am very conscious of when you come back on here intermittently - that I am probably wittering on about something that I was wittering on about last time you visited Blush ie dd's weight - so many apologies Blush!!] Must curb wittering tendencies ... . I blame it on dh who has is shall we say very objective focused and not generally a big talker Grin Not after a long day in the office when he is talking constantly anyway!!

Yay to understanding and reasonable bosses Hills!!

Waves to Afresh Cordelia Bowerbird Whispers Honu Toostressy Foolandfitz and Cotswold and to everyone else I've missed!

Must stop agitating and go and do!!

GoingGoingGoth · 07/02/2018 15:50

Oh no - I've more kale in the veg box.
Think this batch will be heading for the freezer.

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/02/2018 16:09

goth perhaps the kales breeding in the box!!Grin
SCpm me whenever lovely!(i drink nut milk as fortified calcium and lil zoo has it.i hatedmilk as a child and custard/rice pud etc were only exceptions!!)

Remembered gather rest antibiotics for her from chemist
Picked up lil zoo
Started soup for dd2 as chewings hurting jaw where glands are swollen.i have selection of med type veg going roast then blend with stock as ovens on for tea anyways
(Tonight's tea-jacket potato, lamb mince with garlic and rosemary.roasted mushrooms and squash((adding peppers and courgettes to my portion))have ice lollies for the girls with poorly throats and yogurt for D's

((Need get round to baking something for a pud one night this week))

foxessocks · 07/02/2018 17:37

sc haven't fully caught up but just wanted to say my bmi is also under 18.5 (not sure exactly what it is at the moment but it since I've had the dc it has pretty much always been around 18 or less) and I would say I'm in pretty good health generally! I know totally different when its your kids and my mum is always trying to feed me up!

Steamcloud · 07/02/2018 17:53

Oh that's interesting (and reassuring!) thank you Foxes! Gosh I envy you your figure too Smile They are very rigorous/precise about their figures here - maybe I am worrying too much - or it is the fact that she is a teen or something as you say.

Zoo I used to run out of the room when rice pudding was in the oven as a child! Couldn't stand the smell of warm milk (still can't) and certainly cannot stomach any "wobbly" creamy foods ie custard, blancmange, pannacotta etc.

Goth Jamie Oliver eight killer kale recipes here

Yes, I am procrastinating, list is not getting smaller ... .

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/02/2018 18:13

SC warm milk-bleugh...too many years try be force fed warm school milk in summer and half frozen been put on radiator to melt the frozen bits in winter...
I can eat cheese as an adult.made me sick as a kid.yogurts ok.i only drank milk in dd2 pregnancy skimmed and by the pint(looks back in disgust at myself)I had BMI 17 when fell pregnant lil zoo(lost loads due to stress after had D's)and was monitored as considered underweight...my issue with D's is he has very little,if any body fat so if he's I'll and goes off food he's no reserves(guessing you have same problem with dd)

Tadas
Soup for dd2 made and devoured with gusto-bless her she loves her food and finds bad throats and huge glands that affect chewing sheer torture!!
Mince is on.nearly ready.
Jacket spuds done
Re mop living room floor as kitten decide drinking water wasn't to standard and tip it over(I suspect as scoutcat cat had been in there slurping and he dribbles his spit in it)

Dispatched dd2 for a comforting bubble bath as she's demanding a bit hardworking wanting cuddles and reassurance when out if sorts, despite be near 14..that's go buy me at least 45 mins breakWink

foxessocks · 07/02/2018 18:20

sc sorry I had to rush the last post because of dinner being ready...I was going to say I've always been of slim build and was certainly a skinny child/teen but I did love my food so nobody was concerned...I don't remember really being weighed ever growing up. In fact I never knew my weight until having kids and the midwives weighing me and telling me I was underweight! For that reason I don't tend to worry too much about the figures for stuff like this. I don't know the dc weights either but I guess they will tell me when they start school!

Anyway I'm rambling. It certainly is a good idea to keep an eye on teenage girls I think but if her attitude to food hasn't changed then it may well just be where she is run down. If she didn't have weight to lose in the first place an illness can make a big difference!

Oh and don't be envious honestly !!we all have things we don't like about ourselves and whilst I'm fairly happy with my figure I think my upper body just looks scrawny sometimes especially as I'm pale too! I end up looking wishy washy if I'm not careful!

Right. Really will stop wittering now!

foxessocks · 07/02/2018 18:28

After saying I'm in good health generally I seem to have caught another cold Hmm maybe I need to eat more fruit , I pick up a satsuma and then ds comes along and takes it off me! I hope I am in general good health anyway - touch wood!

Swimming wasn't great it was actually really cold in the pool! Ds wasn't impressed (again!). Cafe was nice though! Grin

Ta da
Finished daily routine
Dh has done more laundry

Just about to get the dc to bed..no decluttering today but never mind.

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/02/2018 18:33

foxes if you have decluttered anything from your thought s I'm sure that still counts😂

foxessocks · 07/02/2018 18:40

Oh and Swish and swipe bathroom

I'm going away now!

Cagliostro · 07/02/2018 19:09

Haven’t caught up just popping on with a list. Waiting for friend to arrive, we are going to another friend for takeaway curry and cards against humanity 😀

ta da
✅got dressed as soon as I got up. It’s funny I don’t normally do the putting clothes out the night before because I don’t have to be smart for work etc, and I really don’t give a Flying fuck what I wear (Jeans. T-shirt. Hoodie. Repeat.) so it’s not like I spend time deciding in the morning. BUT I’ve realised I do have an issue with actually bothering to get dressed... so maybe it’s worth putting something out at night simply to make it less effort 😳😂
✅went to library
✅got tiny baby swimsuit 😍 and a couple of other bits we needed
✅daily focus - ordered something for someone, returned things for other people, filled in a form. All things I’ve been anxious about and avoiding.
