Chatty month. It continues here from the original thread: here

Thank you Zoo hugely better tonight thanks! Actually have some energy and have done some housework; yay! Packing car now.

Funnily enough I've just been talking to dd about a girl in her class (state school) who joined in September and is having a hard time fitting in. (Apparently she moved school's because she didn't fit in her old school either.) DD and her friends complain about her constantly because her parents are v wealthy and unfortunately , without going in to details, she is flaunting it in a really horrible way (I'm guessing because her parents do). Child is desperate to make friends and shows off even more = vicious circle. I said to DD and friends (because I don't like the idea of one child being ostracised by rest of class) "try and be kind, you wouldn't like it if you were on your own and she is saying all that to make herself feel better etc etc, have a quiet word and tell her to just be herself etc" but sadly I don't think they are quite mature enough to see it that way yet and they all piled in with "but she keeps showing off and we are sick of it etc". So not always an advantage to have loads of material stuff especially if your parents haven't brought you up right.

Subtleconstraints · 26/01/2018 17:50

Zoo that mother sounds awful and incredibly rude. Good on your dd2!

Bowerbird5 · 26/01/2018 17:58

Don't need to hide it from me cos I will have some that old. Treated my self on my big birthday to Bare Minerals and the super duper brush. I love it! It goes on great and so so easy. It has lasted since April. Not that I wear it often but I am delighted that a little goes a long way. The girl in Jenners, Edinburgh was lovely and had time to demonstrate and teach me to use it properly.

Meant to say FF I have often felt like that. I think if a cleaner was doing this she would have it done in quarter of the time. I start to get too picky sometimes so it looks like I haven't done much but the grease is out from the knobs on the cooker. Just the rest of the kitchen is a mess.

Interesting thread labelled Trigger😳

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/01/2018 18:29

SC her social skills are limited and brain to mouth filter doesn't happen.sometimes disastrous, but on this occasion cracked me up.
I try n raise mine to accept anyone regardless of if have no money or loads, colour or race if they are kind that's all that matters.at present one of lil zoo best friends has a Russian mum,Romanian dad and she speaks all three languages at 9.lovely kid with an infectious smile who makes lil zoo laugh and laugh and laugh 😀
I have few friends but I admit I find people can be intimidating if they "flash the cash" or behave in an entitled way(hope I've not offended anyone).
"We all sit on lav n do out business the same regardless of social status"😉

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/01/2018 18:57

SC as long as it is not mascara or eye liner (esp liquid) cos that is the fast track to eye infections. I totally agree on the pump action foundation. Less contact, less chance of contamination, keep until goes weird colour - incidentally did you know that foundation will change colour slightly as it ages?

bower last time i went to get make up someone tried to help me. Apparently they didn't have my particular shade of ghost BlushHmmGrin tbh i might have had a bit too much fun on that occasion as the poor sales assistant was on a losing streak and would not give up and leave me to get what I know works for me, she was trying to push a sale.

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/01/2018 19:00

afresh i grew up in an area where there was a lot of 'new' money and pretenders to social elite. Most of the really nice kids were far richer but from old money. They just didn't care about social climbing so didn't boast about it, if anything they were slightly embarrassed. So totally agree with the others who say it is not about how much money but the attitude to it that they have been brought up with.

Hello all, swimming lessons done and girls watching a bit of telly now before bed.

foxes, not sure re nail polish. I recently threw out a couple that were 10 years old if not older as they were really gloopy but I must admit I tend to keep them until this happens.

zoo, yes I think you’re right - it is easier to neglect the bedroom because visitors don’t see it! Thanks for ensuring after washing machine Grin. Someone is coming to look at it on Tuesday which cannot come soon enough. We have one of those extended warranty things on it so it hopefully will not cost anything but the downside of that is we are not exactly a priority for them to fix.

Glad you feel a bit better this evening SC.

Sounds hugely stressful Cag Flowers.

Take it easy Bower, hope you can call your GP / medical help if need be.

Hope not too many problems for your DS today Hills.

Hope you do not feel so awful still Afresh

Big wing flaps to Whispers and everyone else Smile.

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/01/2018 19:55

AH yes ds. I am pleased to report that the only thing injured or in danger of injury today is the rubic cube that is currently refusing to be solved Grin

Thanks for the tips re nail varnish, I tested one and it was a little gloopy but didn't fancy testing them all! (I have a lot!)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 26/01/2018 22:32

**
Here is the daily summary for Saturday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

We are in zone 4 this week which is
the master bedroom aka boudoir.

It’s the weekend though, so no missions or zone work unless you want to!

Please have a look through the information on the website at the relevant zones as I know Flylady is keen that we do look at the website.

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 4.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 4 is here.

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

January’s habit is shining your sink.

beginner babysteps.

old holiday clean up missions

Happy flying everyone.

WhispersOfWickedness · 26/01/2018 22:49

Sorry I have been a bit awol this week 😔 January blues and everything getting a bit on top of me.
Plan this weekend is to get the storage sorted in the living room so that the things being kept in the DC's rooms can finally come out and those rooms can be properly cleaned and tidied, I am sick of them now 😔 Then am I right in thinking the week coming is zone 5, the living room? I will have done that at the weekend, so can hopefully get round to my bedroom then...
Wing flaps to everyone, good nights all round, free from small children waking and illness!

CotswoldStrife · 26/01/2018 23:56

Evening all! Wine is going down well here after a hard-working week. Downstairs of the house looks better but I haven't spent enough time on the thread! Also, as I walk upstairs with the junk I am putting away I am more conscious that the upstairs looks awful. I think that's progress. Think. I am still doing the decluttering/cleaning challenge from another site and I'm really enjoying it. I can see why Flylady says to declutter first now

Hope everyone gets over their germs (DD was off for three days the other week, just can't shake the cold off) and feels better soon. This year seems to be particularly bad for bugs that have a lasting effect.

I'm fine to do the short month of February so will sort that next week. Hope everyone sleeps well, rests and recuperates. May all children and partners stick to the script and be helpful over the weekend!

Bowerbird5 · 27/01/2018 00:21

hills I hit lucky this time. I can remember an assistant in Boots offering to recommend foundation I rememeber looking into her face and thinking " No I'm not keen on orange." She was like an Ompa Lumpa.

Toostressy I was there three times last wek . Phone consultation the week before and my GP will phone back if I leave a message. He is super. I'm feeling much better tonight thanks.
I have a good relaxing day planned tomorrow. Sunday is Mass and choir."

Cagliostro · 27/01/2018 00:47

Good grief what an evening. Made it to ballet despite bus not showing up (seems to be a regular thing so may have to rethink travel plans) but once we got home it all went to shit. Tried to cook dinner between feeding stroppy baby, corned beef hash turned into hot dog hash as the key thing to open the can broke!

All ingredients the Caglets love but they kept grumbling about it and I flipped TBH. We had Words. I did call them back down for a proper chat and made up with them but having spent so long cooking with a screamy baby to have it ripped apart was just too much today :( anyway hopefully turned into a positive and they have agreed to be more brave with trying things and also not just to decide not to eat something because it’s not exactly what they want. I may have pointed out that I never really get to eat exactly what I want because I’m always catering for their very narrow tastes! They could be a lot worse, especially given their ASD, but it just really got to me today.

I was dead on my feet when DH got home and the house is an absolute state, I’ve finally got baby to sleep on the second attempt and I’m going to crash now. Family members meeting at ours tomorrow afternoon which could be mega stressful given what’s happened, and we have a few hours to try and sort the house out but unfortunately DD has ballroom too.

I would quite like to wake up and have it be Sunday. Tomorrow can fuck off.

Goodnight Fledglings

Bowerbird5 · 27/01/2018 06:23

Oh Cags what an awful evening. I hope Caglitini behaves herself and has give you a good nights sleep.
It doesn't hurt kids to be told off or to realise that sometimes mum can have a bit of a melt down it is all part of growing up so don't beat yourself up about that. I would have been yelling too. In that situation if they are old enough tel them the alternative is to make themselves a sandwich!
I would point out next time that actually you might want fillet steak but your eating mince. I hope you're not an offended veggie.
I would give them all jobs in the morning and there is always RBC. Does DH have a car? I have been known to go round with large supermarket bag and shove random stuff in to sort later and put it all in the car boot. It means a quick tidy , vacuum job done!

I've had a good sleep from midnight to 4:30 must have been the gin. Thinking I might catch another 1/2 hour before getting up.
Plan for today___
Take (yesterday's job)charity box to shop.
Take and Post present. Yesterday's job.😖
Go to new craft class for taster session. Might join this monthly group. I don't really like doing things on Saturdays because I like not having to. go on out and I do home Bleugh/ blitz, washing, etc but they have some interesting workshops and I met two ladies in the summer who were very friendly and encouraged me to come. Since I packed in the weekend course I have time.
Make and ice cake.
Clean up mess and wash kitchen floor.

I think I will have that 1/2 hr I just hit myself in the face with the eye pad!😴😖😆

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/01/2018 06:59

Good luck today Cag Flowers.

Glad you had a better evening Bower.

Cotswold, YY it is all about the decluttering - I wish I was better at it as I think we all do!1

Yes, living room next week Whispers.

Well DD1 is up and DD2 has just woken up asking for a chocolate brownie with marshmallows on top for breakfast so I had better get up and disappoint her!

Big wing flaps to all.

foxessocks · 27/01/2018 07:53

Morning all. I slept really badly last night - we ended up eating really late so I had heartburn and then dd was coughing all night in the room next to us. She was still asleep but it kept me awake.

Dh working so I better get breakfast for the kids who are waiting very patiently tbf!

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/01/2018 08:09

toostressy may I have choc brownie with marshmallows on top for breakfastGrin
Cag that's pants lovely.we all have a breaking point.caglets will forgive you. Could do you have a slow cooker/somethng prep day before and microwaved kinda teatakeout after ballet so it's super quick once you are all exhausted?sending hugs.i still think you do amazing given a little one and so many clubs on buses etc.xx
Foxes any chance a nap will dvd takes charge for a bit later?
Whispers being low is ok.plod on best you can.winter makes me worse.i see snowdrops couple weeks ago and first crocus yesterday/shoots of daffodils on school run.spring is coming😊

I am up,but my brains still sleeping nothing unusual

Dd2 is volunteering in community cafe at church today and needs to leave soon(830)and I promised pancakes...best crack on

Afreshcuppateaplease · 27/01/2018 08:16

Wtf is up with corned beef tins. Nothing else comes in a can like that. They are shit and it makes no sense!

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/01/2018 08:35

Now I may be a bit controversial but I prefer those dodgy keys to that bastard ring pull thingy they put on tinned gammon ham.always end up cutting my hand but zoolets love it and I get outvoted sometimes to keep buying it
Dd2 has left the building (peace at last)
DS still sleeping, lil zoo on third bowl of cereal and asking any crumpets left....

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/01/2018 08:36

Are you feeling any more human afresh?

foxessocks · 27/01/2018 08:45

Oh I'm sure a tv will feature heavily today zoo its already on Grin I'm feeling ok at the moment but will.probably crash later. And I've got to work once dh gets home. Hoping he'll take the kids out for a bit maybe while I get on but depends how long he is and when ds naps.

Ds has just had a huge tantrum over breakfast. Turns out he wanted to feed himself. Weetabix everywhere now but at least he cheered up I suppose.

To do
Daily routine
swish and swipe downstairs loo
Take fil birthday present (maybe dh with the kids later)
Start some work
Buy some bits from supermarket

cag just to say don't worry about it you had a really tough evening - I often end up shouting at the kids at that time of day! Everyone is getting tired, you're trying to cook dinner, keep kids entertained or at least out of the way of hot things...it is a stressful time of day!

Afreshcuppateaplease · 27/01/2018 08:45

Slightly. Have bad cough and ears still hurt but my head ok and have bit more energy ty.

Thanks all for the imput on differences in money/house size! Turns out after talking to ds1 that friend whose house he was at yesterday has smaller bedroom than ds1 and he isnt even in the box room. They also have less bedrooms than us yet the house is worth 400k+ according to zoopla! Friends all live in nice newer houses lots detatched, pretty houses that are just saying look i have lots of money. Ours is big but on main road no front garden, wonky looking. Gave myself a talking to aswell as realised all these friends parenta have 10-20 years on me and dp lol

I cant help judge for the corned beef tin zoo Hmm

Ta da

Dryer empty
Dryer on
Washer on
Dry pots away
Dc3&4 up fed and dressed

Cagliostro · 27/01/2018 08:48

Thanks lovelies. I was actually too tired to shout at them TBH I was just quietly angry/disappointed and sent them upstairs. Then got them back down. Have discussed the agreement with DH too.

Sadly no room for our slow cooker (kitchen isn’t big enough to swing an atom let alone a cat) and our fridge freezer is small too so no room for batch cooked stuff either. I am really excited for when we move though as we will have more space and I have epic plans for sorting our food storage etc. Which is another reason to get them eating a bit more of a range too.

No blissful 6hr snooze last night either but it wasn’t too bad really, I’m just worn out TBH. Going to head downstairs shortly, I am craving crumpets and jam, then really must crack on but I’m so tired. There will be much stash and dashing. Kitchen is a state too after yesterday’s debacle. Uggggggggh.
