Fledglings flying through craft stash in 2018

Since I joined the fledglings thread I noticed quite a few people have and find de-cluttering craft stashes difficult. Lots of crafters have half finished projects lying around creating more clutter.I'm very guilty of this.
So I have started my first thread.

The idea will be that you pick up one of those projects and complete within a month. Those that are clever( not me) can post a photo of the result on this thread for the rest of us to admire.
Also those new to a craft can ask advice of those experienced crafters. You can also post about organising and decluttering your craft area.
So crafty fledglings I'll start off.

I bought some wool from Yorkshire because I saw it in the window in Leyburn and had to have it. It was in June. So I started it on Jan1 and I am knitting( slowly) a snood. I aim to have it finished by the 31st Jan, 2018 😁
What is your pledge?

Well done Bowerbird - it's finished is the main point!

I managed to finish off the green scarf last night as well, other than sewing in ends. I cast on the brown and did 3" before bed but the train was too packed this morning to knit.

I also cast on the black cotton chevron scarf on the train last night (I had left the green at home there was so little left to do) and got about 2" of that done.

DH asked why I was making another when he saw the brown this morning (he had been working on laptop last night so mostly ignored what I was at on the sofa) and just did Hmm when I said I needed 14 overall, but that I had roughly 319 days to do them in! (But he does, grudgingly, now accept that I am Xmas Grin all year round!)

😄
Wondering what to tackle next. I have more wool. I have green handspun, hand dyed from friend I might do that.quite fancy tackling something else though. I have a tiny tapestry I think I will do that tonight. It will mean it is finished😊 then I can think about next project.

finish? what is this finish you speak of?

Confused

Urm I had cast on itis.

Bowerbird5 · 09/02/2018 08:48

Yep and I am going to wear it today😄 feeling a little smug. It was only garter stitch. It looks lovely as the colours are muted stripes in dark purples, blues, greys my friend had her eye on it but I need it for my chest. Fancy something a bit more challenging so might get a felt sample out and do something with it. Need to also prep stuff for embroidery group I have just joined. I have signed up for a workshop. I think I have most of the stuff in my stash but need to check by next week.

For those that wanted to see the rainbow scarf it is on the Sirdar website. Sirdar--> fashion--> 8031 I made the scarf it isn't quite as nice as there's as I didn't change colour as often. I stated ten rows but decided just to knit it from the cake.

I finished the next clue in the mystery knit along i am doing before I got out of bed for the second time this morning. I think I might be creating ornaments rather than something I would wear Confused At least I am really enjoying the knitting process.

LadyDeadpool · 09/02/2018 19:21

I actually finished the game boy! Husband absolutely loves it and I'm now working on getting to hand over a bigger console for me to paint.
I've 8 things on my 100 things challenge. Except one of them was actually making more supplies Blush I made my own acrylic ink sprays and hopefully tonight I'll be finishing sewing a monster high doll dress.

BiddyPop · 10/02/2018 09:36

I got to knit in the car on a 3 hour journey last night. So a foot added to scarf #2.

Scarf #3 didn't make much progress as the last beside me on train was extremely distracting. I only managed 4 rows. But that is 4 more than nothing.

Slightly against the spirit of the thread, as I have some stash to use too, but I will be visiting a wool shop here today ("down home", getting to rare enough visits) so I want to see if I can get any other wool for the 14 scarves project. Realistically, I have enough for 5 maybe 6/7, so I definitely need some more.

LadyDeadpool · 10/02/2018 13:27

Monster high doll dress and wig. Excuse the mess.

BiddyPop · 15/02/2018 14:18

Ok, first a confession Blush I visited the wool shop and she had a sale on....I bought 10 balls of wool (2 sets of 3, 2 balls of cotton, and 2 different "colourwheel" type balls) - so that should do at least 5, if not 6/7 scarves.

I had to leave my knitting with DH as I was flying. But I've managed to do 15 rows on my blanket over the past 2 nights, so about 2" there. I reckon there is enough wool left in the ball to do another 6-8" in total, maybe slightly more - so I should see that finished in the next couple of months (I don't get to sit often at night to knit and each row takes 10 minutes, and as it's circular needles, I really don't like stopping in the middle of a row).

I brought scarf #2 with me today but the train was too packed this morning - hopefully tonight.

Scarf #3 is still sitting at home - I have it 5 chevrons wide (41 stitches) as I always understood you should have odd numbers of pattern repeats for design aesthetics (a bit like numbers of plants in gardens or flowers in arrangements). But it might be slightly too wide at that for the more tight, formal type of scarf that I want for a man to wear over a business suit (lots of them will be big chunky ribs to wear with casual clothes but I was planning 2 more formal ones to suit 2 particular recipients). So I may have to rip back and start again.

Cross-stitch is sitting abandoned due to lack of time. But I intend taking it on the plane next week as I will have 2 nights away that I can work on something small if I get away with the needle.

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/02/2018 15:15

biddy it is safe to say that by the end of the weekend your purchases will look small compared to mine. I already have acquired 12 balls of yarn and I know that there is more to come sweaters quantity As long as it is being used and for a purpose it doesn't matter. What does matter is the hoarding of WIPS and UFOs. Blush

Bowerbird5 · 15/02/2018 20:10

Did you make that dress Lady?
How tall is she?

OP posts:
Bowerbird5 · 18/02/2018 03:36

I can't believe I haven't made anything this week. I've dithered about what to start next!

OP posts:
LadyDeadpool · 18/02/2018 14:53

Shes 27cm and yes I made it and made holes in my fingers too really made me swear. I've made a second one since then and it was much easier! I made the wig too. Looking into getting the materials to start doing custom faces now but I'm a little nervous about ruining them!

BiddyPop · 19/02/2018 09:14

Got a few more inches done on scarf #2 on Fridays' commutes.

14 rows on the blanket last night - slow but steady progress.

Other projects on hold while real life takes precedence (illness in household, work travel etc).

But I am happy that I am actually making baby steps forward thanks to this thread that I probably wouldn't otherwise make.

Bowerbird5 · 24/02/2018 07:23

That is amazing Lady.

Good keep it up. I haven't done anything and I am missing it. I think I was more relaxed. I am going to a group today though so hope I will continue with whatever I start today. I should have just started and not procrastinating over what to make next.

Hello all, I got logged out of MN and have only just got back in, so here I am 🙈
I have done a bit more on my project, but not as much as I'd hoped, a bit of a shame after such a productive January! It's a birthday present for 24th March, so I ought to get cracking now really! It is mostly bag construction though, so hopefully not as time consuming as the quilting part 😊

BiddyPop · 13/03/2018 09:48

After a hectic couple of weeks where the needles languished, I picked them up again yesterday (and took a longer train journey this morning to add to my knitting time in peace!😉). Added another foot or more so far to scarf #2, and only about 1/3 of a ball of wool left to use.

Scarf #3 had another 5 rows added only - it needs concentration on the chart.

We've had an announcement about another new baby expected during the year so I will have to jntrrrupt scarves to either knit or sew something - I have plenty of ideas involving stash materials.

And I found a small cross stitch kit that I think I can take with me on a work trip this week. So that will keeps me going.

BiddyPop · 13/03/2018 09:49

How are the rest of the stash/UFO-finishers getting on?

BiddyPop · 23/03/2018 06:04

Scarf #2 is finished apart from sewing in the ends. Scarf #4 is started (3" long so far) and I may actually see those ends together as a möbius scarf to finish given who it's for.

My plan for the expected new baby is sewing, using stash materials (there are various others already knitting).

BiddyPop · 29/03/2018 13:30

Not a lot more progress this week, but some knitting on scarf #4 and I have also done a few more rows on the blanket.

Easter Weekend should be quiet though, in my house, so I have great plans for a sewing bee to use up stash materials and finish off at least 3 UFOs (2 tote bags and a Christmas decoration), hopefully a few more than that.

Any news from anyone else working on their stash and UFOs?

Whispers, did you finish your project for the birthday?

Bowerbird5 · 30/03/2018 22:25

Hi, whispers I got logged out too😳 for a day or two now having to log in each time even though ticked in.

Hi Biddy pop, sorry I haven't been on. I have been back at work and not much time or energy. I did go to a workshop though on making flowers using paper patterns, fabric and stitch. Very enjoyable.
Hoping to tackle something over Easter. Not sure what yet.

Bit too manic and DH took over the study so no sewing done. But scarf #4 is finished- I'm going to sew the ends together as a mobious (sp?) but knitting is done. I may start #5 later as I will be hanging around a club for 3 days as DD participates in a sporting event. Or else I may be braver and start a baby cardigan.

BiddyPop · 18/04/2018 17:05

Scarf #3 got a good bit of attention the past couple of days as I was a passenger on 2 loooong car journeys in daylight (I have realized that black wool and a pattern need daylight for knitting). I've added a good 3' to it - I think I'm almost halfway there.

Scarf #5 has also been well started. I have about 1' done so far (it's 1/3 wider than scarf 4, as that had a lot of wool left at the end (they are both using the same self-striping type of wool just different colours) and it was just about wide enough but doing a K3P3 rib makes it look nicer).

In other things, I have sewn on badges onto DD's Scout Uniform. Which was another UFO! (Although of a more "mending" nature than crafting type).

Bowerbird5 · 23/04/2018 04:18

Sorry I have neglected this thread.
Scarf knitting going well Biddypop.

I haven't been doing any crafting 😔 as I have been busy keeping up with work, cleaning, now gardening and can't make my mind up about what to start so nothing getting done.
I went on a day course about making flowers which I enjoyed. I finished my flower bar stamens which I need to do by Saturday. I need to decide what to do on Saturday as I'm not doing the workshop.
Need to get back to it and posting on here.
Need to get into craft room as I pulled out a lot of boxes for Easter things.it is a mess in there.
