Fledglings flying through craft stash in 2018

Since I joined the fledglings thread I noticed quite a few people have and find de-cluttering craft stashes difficult. Lots of crafters have half finished projects lying around creating more clutter.I'm very guilty of this.
So I have started my first thread.

The idea will be that you pick up one of those projects and complete within a month. Those that are clever( not me) can post a photo of the result on this thread for the rest of us to admire.
Also those new to a craft can ask advice of those experienced crafters. You can also post about organising and decluttering your craft area.
So crafty fledglings I'll start off.

I bought some wool from Yorkshire because I saw it in the window in Leyburn and had to have it. It was in June. So I started it on Jan1 and I am knitting( slowly) a snood. I aim to have it finished by the 31st Jan, 2018 😁
What is your pledge?

But but but reading about crafty things is important for getting ideas for using the stash. It is essential for crafting imo, just like watching crafting podcasts.

When I mark out cross stitch pieces I mark the centres and sometime 20 x20 squares. It depends on how much patience I have before I get started. hint I don't have much and whip stitching the fabric edge and centre is a struggle

I want to get some socks worked on. I really want to ply my singles but they will be easier if I can be patient enough to wait until Monday.

I started my tally on stash movement and project movement for January. Blush But tbh atm I am enjoying knitting backwards so I don't have to turn my knitting for purling constantly whilst doing the heels. Blush

Bowerbird5 · 21/01/2018 03:53

😳 knitting backwards?

Yes I thought reading about crafty things would be ok too. And Pinterest for inspiration too.

I think I might now have a broken toe. I went for a wee and on way out was admiring my tidy shelves when I walked into towel rail. Have just done a lot of shhhhhhhhh Swearing. 🙊It hurts!😤 DH never woke up!
That man would sleep through a earthquake! 👀 oh yes, he did once. It was a tremor but enough that other people went outside.
Well it is my 3 plus wake up so I'm off to have a look on Pinterest which makes me feel inadequate . Especially the Russian felters.😀

I had my woolly socks on yesterday, thanks. I forgot I ended up buying more. These are black with stripes on the end. Thanh.

I'm enjoying reading about all the craft rooms, stashes and progress. Bower - hope your toe feels a bit better now, I did that once and had to wear Crocs for a whole week.

Anyway, I have a tada! Blanket is finished, just needs to be washed and sent on its way.

Oh my goodness it is gorgeous. What a brilliant job you have done at piecing it together. I see how you have done it matching up the sizes. The colours are so vibrant someone is going to be delighted.

Yes toe is better than I expected this morning so maybe not broken it though it is one I have broken before.😧

I have cleared the table in my room! Ta Dah! Just pencils and things at the edge to easily reach. A magazine file empty so the book or magazine I am working on can be kept there. Not looking at the rest of the room but there is a path through😃 a bit longer in there tomorrow. Yes I find it interesting to hear about others stashes and projects too.

Ooo, great blanket, Who, lovely colours!

I haven't been able to do ANY crafting this weekend 😩 Busy day yesterday and then out all day today at IKEA 😬

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 21/01/2018 20:26

I spent 90 minutes huddled under it sewing the ends in while DS played football in a freezing cold astrodome today, I will miss it next week!

Bowerbird5 · 22/01/2018 04:24

Oh what a great idea to take it and help keep warm at the same time. I used to get lots done at gymnastics.
I got quite excited sorting magazines last night as I came across a felted dog in one. Ear marked that for this week. I have four bags of wool tops. Large bags! If I get good DH says I should sell them. He never says much but was very impressed by the blue tits last week. The girls giggled when I said I hope they weren't cost dad too much in birdseed.
You'll have to start another one for yourself.😃

That blanket is gorgeous!

I didn't do a lot over the weekend - well a bit more sorting of files (craft ideas and recipes pulled from magazines over the years - I am trying to be ruthless in the cull, e.g. I know I will never knit toys so that was a whole section to send to recycling). And I managed another 4" on my blanket last night watching the Grand Tour (family time On Sunday nights). The ball of wool is still very fat, and the nlanket itself probably needs at least another 2', maybe more, it's about 2'6"-3' at the minute but is only intended to be a lap blanket.

Bowerbird5 · 22/01/2018 11:46

What colour is it Biddypop?

Hmm I do that then don't make / cook them. Really need to cull too or get a file and sort them into categories.

BiddyPop · 22/01/2018 12:22

My one is a sort of bobbly ball of blue that gradually moves from navy to almost baby blue and back again. I'm using my size 4mm circular needles on it, and because of the bobbliness, I can just alternate sections of knit/purl rows and plain knit/knit rows without any other need for pattern or interest. So it really is a project I can pick up and put down over months/years.

(Hangs head as intended recipient is no longer with us, unexpectedly, but there are a number of people who it would suit once I complete it).

Bowerbird5 · 22/01/2018 15:07

Ah don't worry we all have projects like that.

It sounds really interested. I look forward to hearing that you have finished( hopefully a picture) and hearing what the following project will be.

I haven't done any yet. I have been in the craft room for about 40 minutes. 2x20 m.
Thinking I might check out the knitting/crocheting wool. Also thinking about the dog needle felting.

😳 interesting.
Meant to say the colour gradient sounds lovely.

I haven't completed anything I said I would, I've kind of been working on the junk journal its bound and the cover is done, not even looked at the gameboy but I did make an entire monster high doll outfit and shoes.
Anything to put off my started projects apparently.

Bowerbird5 · 22/01/2018 18:49

Ha ha!
Well they sound intriguing Ladydeadpool.
I haven't done much in actual craft since last Sunday but have been sorting. I now have a table to work at. The lampshade is at a standstill because I need to make more felt and I am not up to rolling that out.
Going into the stash next to the sofa any minute. I 've forgotten what is in there but be assured it will evolve wool!

I found a new local yarn store (LYS) it would have been rude not to have bought a ball of yarn Blush It is a lovely little store and I want a proper nosy at some point.

Bowerbird5 · 23/01/2018 23:43

Go without the kids...bliss!
It would be very rude not to go in. Just to check it out and well they're new owners so very rude not to give them any business. And you're not a rude person so quite understandable.

Last night I wrote a post about DH because I was rather annoyed with him not helping because I bent down to retrieve a Welsh Egg and discovered mouse chewings. I lost the post it was a little bit amusing I think, so annoying that the page moved and puff it was gone. Well I made him ( not easy) move the sofa so he could give it a good vacuum. He was less than keen. Anyway job done mouse poison pellets have been chewed but thankfully they don't seem to have gone into my stash bag in the sitting room. I found some lovely hues of Aran wool and have started a scarf. The colours are beautiful. So new project started. I was hoping to go to a stitch and bitch tomorrow just to find out how to do the needlepoint. I have it in the book and I found the original design too.

I managed to get a spot where no one could stand in front of me on the packed commuter train last night, so I started one of the balls of wool I bought last week - a few funny looks but, as I also did some in bed, and got the quieter train this morning (so got a seat), I managed about 14 inches on the scarf so far. Quite happy with that.

This one is a plain 2K2P rib all the way up, a nice chunky male scarf.

I will probably get a little more ambitious with my patterns once I have a couple done - I have a few things like "Wavy" that I made before which is nice, and a chevron pattern (probably also from Knitty or else about.com's knitting pages), or maybe a basketweave. (Caveat - the patterns are all so long at home that they may no longer be on the pages I got them on!). But these all need a little concentration to progress (and a notepad to mark where on the pattern I stop each time) so may not be quite so suitable for the commute projects.

Bowerbird5 · 24/01/2018 16:31

Probably thinking I wish I could do that!

Oh I love wavy. I might try that sometime. I'm just making a garter stitch one. Quick and simple.

FYI man sized socks take forever... Yawn. This is why I love knitting me sized socks they are small Grin Thankfully the too be owner is very knitworthy and it will be appreciated. But still. forever. Although loving the yarn and considering making a stuffy from another ball if I can track it down again (without having to travel miles back to the store I found the original ball)

WhispersOfWickedness · 24/01/2018 21:33

I am still about! Got an unexpected free morning tomorrow, so hoping to still get the cutting out done by February! 🙈

Bowerbird5 · 25/01/2018 07:35

What is a "stuffy?" hills😆 I am sure socks will be appreciated I loved wearing mine the other day. I was having trouble with cold feet and put those on and super cosy.

Yes,I got a shock when I realised hospital app. Was this week not next. Being off I have lost track of the days.
I am half way through scarf and can see why I bought that wool. Lovely colours blending into each other and the fact it was half unravelled
and in the bargain basket.
Looking forward to doing it this afternoon, oooh wonder if I am allowed it in the hospital. I could do some while I wait.

HillsBesideTheSea · 25/01/2018 17:32

I have managed to get my singles plied today, hoping to finish the man socks later. hopefully will wind off the yarn over the weekend and give it a bath.

Bowerbird5 · 25/01/2018 18:03

Oh wow you are quick. I am just past half way with the scarf. Should have it done by Saturday night. Eyeing up another skein of wool. It has a crochet hook stuck in it but I can't remember why I bought it. It has unusual colours but not much of it. I think it was a Woolfest purchase.lampshade at a standstill as I need to wet felt some more wool and don't feel up to it just yet.

Where are all our followers, come on you crafty lot you can post even if " nothing to declare" and we will encourage you.

I would also like to mention the Woolly Warmers I am going to look out all those bits of wool. I have some of the wool requested and pledge to make a few squares.

It helps that I can knit without looking down when I am just knitting in the round. I have an inch and a toe, which is doable in an evening. So if i am sitting to watch tv I am usually knitting.

Although it is looking more like the ironing and laundry pile will be winning my attention tonight so it won't get done. I have the prospect of a train journey on Saturday, a long one so i want to make sure I am at a point in the socks for me that is just around and around knitting. Not sure if I am looking forwards to it or dreading it. Taking the boy, he has never done long train journeys that he can remember. He of course will have opinions about me knitting in public being a teen so I might not be allowed HmmGrin
