Fledglings flying through craft stash in 2018

Since I joined the fledglings thread I noticed quite a few people have and find de-cluttering craft stashes difficult. Lots of crafters have half finished projects lying around creating more clutter.I'm very guilty of this.
So I have started my first thread.

The idea will be that you pick up one of those projects and complete within a month. Those that are clever( not me) can post a photo of the result on this thread for the rest of us to admire.
Also those new to a craft can ask advice of those experienced crafters. You can also post about organising and decluttering your craft area.
So crafty fledglings I'll start off.

I bought some wool from Yorkshire because I saw it in the window in Leyburn and had to have it. It was in June. So I started it on Jan1 and I am knitting( slowly) a snood. I aim to have it finished by the 31st Jan, 2018 😁
What is your pledge?

As part of my cull of patterns over Christmas (and recipes, and "life advice" things!), I threw out all my patterns for socks as I can never see myself having the patience to learn how to knit a sock. Fair play to all those who do!

I have a bit of free time at home later today, so I will rummage out something I can work on, and make the pledge to get it done.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/01/2018 13:53

I've made a decisionfinally

I seem have lots balls, not many same colour.am therefore opt make D's a knitted hat called a Swedish capstan.i have a penchant for very old knitting patterns(predecimilisation)and they tend be "quite retro" looking modern kids think weird but D's is an individual.will attempt take photo of the pattern and post it...

PS I am spending next hour on said hat before get lil zoo from schoolSmile

PurpleFrog · 11/01/2018 14:48

@Stilllivinginazoo

Are you sure Capstan is the name of the hat? It is just that Paton's Aran wool in the 60's and 70's was called Capstan....

Hills! you do make me chuckle.😆 re socks whole pair 😆

Well I have nearly done it. I stayed up and watched Exodus last night. We weren't going to when we saw how late it finished but we got too enthralled in it. What fantastic filming! Anyway I knitted all through it which means after two 1-2 hrs today I have only to cast off. Can't believe I have nearly finished it. I have never made something so quickly. Mind you I have been off sick so I haven't felt like doing much else.
zoo love retro patterns I have loads from my aunt. I couldn't throw them out. I think some could go in the museum!
Hi purple frog☺️

Well done Bower! Any chance of a picture?!

No crafting here until the weekend probably 😢

Tidy2018 · 11/01/2018 23:33

Thank you for this thread. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed knitting. There are twenty-four pampers boxes on top of my wardrobe, full of wool and half-finished projects. If I take them down, I'll be worried that it'll get messy again very fast.

It's hard for me to knit again. I've never enjoyed great mental health, and when I knit I remember all the lovely jerseys I donated years ago because I was convinced that everything I did was shite.

There's also a pile of mending to tackle - it would be good to get this done before the clothes are no longer wanted.

Bowerbird5 · 12/01/2018 07:36

Welcome Tidy.
Why not just take one down and do that one.
Just think how much joy you gave to those people who wore them.

Whisper not very good with ICT but might get DH to try. He has a better phone than I do. Will look up how to do it.

bower take a photo on phone.then come to MN.next to preview n post are smiley face.and I and a paperclip.hit the paper clip then it says camera or documents.documents should open camera photos click one want.add message to box and press send((this worked on my old phone))

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/01/2018 10:02

My newer phone can just take photo with the camera option(paperclip symbol.camera then take photo)

Tidy2018 · 12/01/2018 22:51

Bower, you're right, just getting one item finished would be great for my morale. All the boxes were carefully labelled before I put them on top of the wardrobe, so I'll pick something easy to start with. Thanks :-))

WhispersOfWickedness · 12/01/2018 22:55

Definitely one box at a time, Tidy, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time 😊

Hoping to get started on the cutting out this weekend, although it will depend when my mum comes to visit as the bag is from her 😅

WhispersOfWickedness · 12/01/2018 22:55

For her, even....

Bowerbird5 · 12/01/2018 23:46

Thank you zoo have just seen this and will try tomorrow as I have an oldish phone. DS has an iPhone

I sneaked another hour in on D's hat.few rows and I decrease to make sections up sides of face
I still feel bit guilty using an hour to knit not clean but be lovely to actually use my wool hoard productively!!

Bowerbird5 · 13/01/2018 10:23

It isn't cleaning but it is de-cluttering!
I find I am more eager to do the cleaning now I have the craft to look forward to afterwards.
Go in to do the craft room( DD & DS 's old small bedroom) so if I don't come back can someone send a search party in please.

Think I will put a play on iPad so I can listen to that as I declutter/ re-organise the stash.

Just 4 bower? you amateur!

I weaved in some ends on socks, even finished a pair or two. Got some new crafting books too Blush

WhispersOfWickedness · 14/01/2018 23:06

Evening!
I have had a very productive day craft wise! Have cut out all the 'book' pieces for my book bag. Need to go and buy some fabric for the white background tomorrow during my lunch break and then I can get onto cutting that out too. Definitely on track for everything to be cut out by the end of January, might even have some bits sewn by then too 😱😁

Bowerbird5 · 14/01/2018 23:31

😄 brilliant.

Hills
Hills I haven't finished in the room yet I just found those in Cags BRCs on the floor. I have lots of boxes to go through yet. Then there is the Really Useful Big Boxes with lots of wool from my aunties stash. I was mean and didn't let the Mohair go to the charity shop. My sisters and I each took some and the lady in the shop was thrilled with what we gave. She didn't see what we hadn't given them. My aunt was a serious knitter and a very, very good one who had a seriously good stash. Think Mohair, Arran, angora, double knit, four ply , two ply( baby shawls) mainly pure wool and patterns oh my goodness! She had a double wardrobe full. I have enough Mohair for a jumper I think. She made me two gorgeous colours. This isn't quite as gorgeous but it will do nicely when I get around to it. I have never knitted myself a jumper. Then there are lots of other balls too many to mention. I took some because I just liked the colour😳
Anyway I digress.
I have finished the second bird this morning. So two young girls were thrilled with their birds this morning. Now what shall I tackle next ah yes I remember it is the lamp shade and the needlepoint that needs laced up and put in a frame. I have another needlepoint from forty years ago that never got frame. Now wouldn't that be a challenge! SC would love it as it is a mare and foal. It is time it was framed and on my wall.😉
