Fledglings flying through craft stash in 2018

Since I joined the fledglings thread I noticed quite a few people have and find de-cluttering craft stashes difficult. Lots of crafters have half finished projects lying around creating more clutter.I'm very guilty of this.
So I have started my first thread.

The idea will be that you pick up one of those projects and complete within a month. Those that are clever( not me) can post a photo of the result on this thread for the rest of us to admire.
Also those new to a craft can ask advice of those experienced crafters. You can also post about organising and decluttering your craft area.
So crafty fledglings I'll start off.

I bought some wool from Yorkshire because I saw it in the window in Leyburn and had to have it. It was in June. So I started it on Jan1 and I am knitting( slowly) a snood. I aim to have it finished by the 31st Jan, 2018 😁
What is your pledge?

Hi everyone, I'm after some advice! I'm spending the evening picking fabric for the next project that I mentioned above, it's a bag for my mum's Birthday. The first picture is hopefully what the bag will look like when it's finished 😂 The second is my first attempt at picking fabrics... what do people think about how the fabrics go together? Do any of them just not work? I need all the help I can get 🙈😅

Oooh love that idea Whispers! Your fabrics look lovely too!

Funnily enough I have started planning a quilt for dd that is in the form of a bookcase, containing her favourite books.

moggle · 06/01/2018 20:44

Oh this sounds like my thread! But I’m about to drop with twins and so I don’t know how much I’ll manage. Maybe just lurk and get some inspirAtion...
I usually sew but haven’t been able to fit comfortably behind the table for a while so can only do quite quick things. Was hoping to work through the boxes of fabric mostly cotton jersey while on mat leave but no hope!
Back to knitting and crochet I think then for now. I have a big box of “nice” yarn I’ve bought over the years (never mind the other stuff up in the loft). Perhaps I’ll finally make the neck warmer from very expensive wool I bought in Victoria (Canada) on holiday 18m ago. And DD is in need of a new scarf too. Have already made cardigans for the twins and mum has done blankets and hats...

Subtleconstraints · 06/01/2018 20:45

Think your combo of colours work well together! Were you thinking of using the blue (far right) as the background?

Subtleconstraints · 06/01/2018 20:46

Welcome Moggle!

WhispersOfWickedness · 06/01/2018 21:06

Thank you subtle! No, the background will be white (or maybe cream), like the pattern, if it all goes well and I'm not tearing my hair out, I might make another one and experiment more with the backgrounds etc, but this is my first time doing patchwork, so I feel like I need to follow it to the letter this time 😅 What about the order they are in, would you change them around? The only one that needs to stay in position (if I use it at all!) is the far left one as it's a long quarter, so can only fit that piece since it's directional.

WhispersOfWickedness · 06/01/2018 21:08

Wow, moggle, twins, how exciting 😁 How long have you got to go? I can't imagine you'll get much done once they're here 😅

LisaMed1 · 06/01/2018 21:10

WhispersOfWickedness Those colours look great!

I'm hoping to scrape the money together to get the house rewired this year. And that means sorting out the house/using up the stash/decluttering massively Bowerbird5 I may come over and lurk a bit, if it's okay.

I'm watching this with interest. You lot have some awesome ideas.

Subtleconstraints · 06/01/2018 21:11

Oooh I think a white or cream background will work well; the pattern is lovely! The order looks good to me, but half of the satisfaction is derivef fromplaying around with it in situ! Have fun!

Subtleconstraints · 06/01/2018 21:11

Welcome Lisamed!

moggle · 06/01/2018 21:16

Whispers i’m going to be induced on Thursday so really not much time!
I’ve just found a half finished hat from a “yarn and Pom Pom” kit I got for Christmas two years ago so going to try and finish that this evening...

Subtleconstraints · 06/01/2018 21:21

Ooh, good luck for Thursday Moggle!

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/01/2018 21:53

Good luck for Thursday moggle

Not sure it counts but lil zoo has a sequin art for her birthday (end October)
We have been pinning sequins in place this afternoon...it will eventually look like a giraffe eating leaves😊(she's giraffe mad)

I am still undecided on the knitting or crocheting first

HillsBesideTheSea · 06/01/2018 22:59

The order looks fine Whispers Should be a lovely present when you finish.

I have not started the projects I have listed to finish, I started a different one. Blush There is logic to the madness as it will use up a ball of 40ish gram scraps to get them out of stash. but really I am procrastinating because I am stubborn like that

WhispersOfWickedness · 07/01/2018 08:28

Ooo, how exciting moggle, not much time! 😊

Thank you everyone for your advice! There's one fabric that I'm not sold on, so I think I'll swap that for something else today. Also going to look at it in natural light to see if that makes a difference 😊 I'm really excited to get started 😁 Although not so much about the cutting out 😂 Got to do all the flying first though (see flying thread 😬)...

WhispersOfWickedness · 07/01/2018 08:29

Oh, and waves to all the procrastinators, I am definitely known for that... 🙈

Callmecordelia · 07/01/2018 08:32

The jacket I am trying to finish I was working on in the hospital bed while being induced with DS.

He's 21 months. Blush

Afreshnewyearplease · 07/01/2018 08:36

< sticks head in for a nosey >

More pictures people! I want to see sequin giraffes!

As mentioned before i cant make anythinh. Only babies.

< wanders off >

Rarity75 · 07/01/2018 09:01

I need to join, my stash is a 6 foot wardrobe and lots of hiding places in my living room.

I have a jumper I started 2 years ago Blush and loads of half done small projects.

My plan is to finish a baby blanket (before baby is born!)

Thank you for this thread! It’s great to find my people!

Subtleconstraints · 07/01/2018 09:07

Grin Cordelia and Afresh Grin

Welcome to Rarity

Bowerbird5 · 07/01/2018 09:39

Wow this thread has taken off. I'm glad and welcome to those just joined. whisper, Lisa and Rarity
Whisper love the bag. I' m not so keen on the grey stripe one. The first one I love the pattern but you might find you lose it as it depends on the size cut. I would fold a piece over and see what it looks like or you might have to play about with a bit to gain the pattern that you want. Lovely colours. Really love the leaf one. God luck with getting it done by Thursday and I hope everything goes smoothly for you . How exciting!

I have been managing to stick to knitting for at least half an hour a day and often do more. I have five colours knitted so far. I decided to just knit them in sequence so I don't have lots of knots where I changed colour as I did for first two. It's bright!

Ah sorry brain not awake yet. Good luck Moggle for Thursday. I had an image of Whisper getting it made by Thursday twins. Bet Whisper would have a shock about that. 😳
Moggle perhaps you could work on a stitch a day. It would be a perhaps short but much needed relax time for you.😊 a double welcome to you.

Zoo if it part of a stash in your house it counts. No age restrictions on here and lovely to do something together. Except for those parents that don't like crafting and get homework projects to do. At least they can get ideas on here.
Babies are usually a ten month/40 week project Afresh but we'll make an exception😁

Moogle good luck!

Bowerbird5 I can't wait to see it.

Does anyone else have the issue where they need eg 800g for a sweater but they buy an extra 100g 'just in case'?

Subtleconstraints · 07/01/2018 13:19

Lisa I do the equivalent with fabric! Add in a metre or so "just in case" particularly if it has a nap or a large repeat pattern.

Slowpokeslimmer · 07/01/2018 13:43

I'd love to join in please. I have heaps of craft stuff. My hobbies are knitting, crochet, papercrafting, dressmaking, patchwork and quilting. I have loads of half finished projects and loads of stash for future projects. I don't want to declutter and get rid, just to organise it so it's easier to find things when I want them.

On New Years Day I started a blanket using yarn I bought in 2010 and a pattern I put in my Ravelry queue at the same time. I hoping to finish it this month and also want to finish a knitting project from 2011.
