Fledglings flying through craft stash in 2018

Since I joined the fledglings thread I noticed quite a few people have and find de-cluttering craft stashes difficult. Lots of crafters have half finished projects lying around creating more clutter.I'm very guilty of this.
So I have started my first thread.

The idea will be that you pick up one of those projects and complete within a month. Those that are clever( not me) can post a photo of the result on this thread for the rest of us to admire.
Also those new to a craft can ask advice of those experienced crafters. You can also post about organising and decluttering your craft area.
So crafty fledglings I'll start off.

I bought some wool from Yorkshire because I saw it in the window in Leyburn and had to have it. It was in June. So I started it on Jan1 and I am knitting( slowly) a snood. I aim to have it finished by the 31st Jan, 2018 😁
What is your pledge?

I did some more cutting out, I'm probably about a third of the way through now 😁🎉

BiddyPop · 26/01/2018 11:53

I went through my embroidery threads last night and found a holly leaves cross stitch which is about 2/3 finished - so that should be ok to finish relatively easily.

Current scarf is now about 30" long and nearly finished the first of 2 balls, so good progress there too.

Biddypop I think we are parallel knitting. Mine is about the same length at a guess and near the end of second ball😁

I have(rashly?) sent off an email yesterday about a local group. I have had an encouraging reply and it is on tomorrow. I can go for a taster session😳
The workshop is probably full but others go along and do their own thing. Sounds right up my street. Thinking I could take my unfinished work along. They seem to do some wacky, arty projects which looks lots of fun. Going to give it a go.

Good evening! My stash is embarrassingly large and sneakily strategically distributed around the house (my family will have a purple fit if I pop my clogs and they're left to sort it!).
Current 'projects in progress' includes:
An Attic24 Woodland blanket (for me but DD has snaffled it), about 18" done.
Chunky knit cardigan for me, nearly finished the back
A jumper for DGrN to be sewn up and posted
I impulsively started a lovely DK jumper pour moi this afternoon, beautiful yarn (Stylecraft Batik Random Elements)
Oh, there's a thre quarter finished Attic24 Hydrangea blanket behind the sofa too 😊🙄😳😃
In defence I have knitted 4 child Aran hoodies/jackets since November too, hence decision to do something for me, the first time in probably 20 years!

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/01/2018 18:47

The group sounds fun Bower

Handspun is having its bath. Next up towel dry, thwacking and fully drying. But not necessarily in that order. Need to check the book of knowing.

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/01/2018 18:48

twiddlewinks making something for you sounds like a good plan and I have to discuss with ds about keeping my blankets too. He loves a good blanket.

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/01/2018 18:49

PLease swap the e with a Y.

Sorry multitasking typing is apparently bad for spelling. Blush

GothMummy · 26/01/2018 18:58

Oh hello everyone, I have a serious craft stash....currently attempting to reduce and organise my fabric! I have 6 patchwork Christmas stockings cut out but not assembled, covered notebooks on the go, several cross stitch projects and a rag doll!

LadyDeadpool · 27/01/2018 18:25

Hills that's so cool sorting out your own wool Shock I'm really impressed by the knitters and crocheters here, I've always thought it was magic to produce something warm and cosy with so many memories attached.

I've been on youtube today (not procrastinating honest!) and heard about the #100thingschallenge where you are challenged to make 100 things using only your stash, you can replace essentials when they completely run out but otherwise everything has to come from what you already own. I'm going to give it a shot but thought if you don't feel your stash has 100 projects in then you could shorten it to make your own goal? Perhaps 25 things challenge with a nice reward to replenish your stash at the end.

Bowerbird5 · 27/01/2018 22:00

Oh thank you LadyDeadpool I haven't seen that. I will have to have a look when I am on you tube usually listening to songs I need to learn for choir but I do get waylaid sometimes by listening to amazing kids singing solo.

Welcome GothMummy well you have all year to get those finished so get one every two months and they will be ready for Christmas😃

hills it was great. A really welcoming cheery group of ladies. A bigger group than I expected and many full of fun. Business meeting followed by a work shop or into another room to sew but I thinking maybe more chatting than sewing was going on. Apparently you don't have to sew just have your work out on the table or your knee to LOOK like you're going to do it!
Lots of people came to chat and at lunchtime you can go and view progress in the other room.
So I've signed up for a workshop. Next month and can join at half price in March. They also go on outing to exhibitions. I'm going to join. It was a really relaxing day. I got some stitching done on two pieces. No knitting today. I told the about the resolution and they laughed apart from one lady that is determinedly trying to reduce her stash.

I have almost finished second ball. Eyes kept closing. So plan to do at least half an hour this afternoon.

BiddyPop · 29/01/2018 11:13

I didn't manage any knitting over the weekend, and not even on the train this morning. Hopefully on the way home tonight.

But I did get an hour on my cross-stitch project, so the 2nd of 3 greens is finished on 1 of 2 leaves, and almost halfway done on the 2nd leaf. The 2 red berries are already finished, so I just need to finish green 2 and add green 3 and a black outline around it all to finish it all off. (It's nice that there is no complete background to fill in on this one).

BiddyPop · 29/01/2018 11:16

Bowerbird I hope you got a good sleep to tackle your knitting this afternoon - you'll almost certainly be well finished before me!

BiddyPop · 30/01/2018 09:06

I managed to finish the 2nd green and start the 3rd on the x-stitch last night. Another 2 solid hours should see it finished, I hope.

Late this morning but managed to catch the other train starting at my station- so I'll get 20
Minutes knitting done en route...

BiddyPop · 30/01/2018 10:48

Woo hoo - there's one row's worth of wool left on ball 1, so I shall have to do the join over lunch, so then I should be able to knit on my commute home again.

I am actually contemplating finishing off the scarf I am wearing over lunch as well - as I never sewed in the 2 ends. We'll see if I go out or stay in (I need to buy fruit but may skip that until tomorrow if the rain that's threatening actually arrives).

HillsBesideTheSea · 30/01/2018 17:52

People around here are talking about there being a strong probability of heavy snow in Feb. AIBU to hope it snows so that I can stay curled up and knit?

WhispersOfWickedness · 31/01/2018 23:08

Welcome Goth Mummy 😊

Where are you, Hills? We get snow where I am more than the average , but it's mostly skipped us this winter so far!

I have finished most of my cutting out 😊 Laid it all out today and I have mismeasured a couple of pieces that now need trimming, but nearly there 😅

All the scarfs sound lovely 😊 I want to see pictures!!

Northwest. We currently have about 2 inches and it is still snowing. Was not settling earlier but definitely settling enough for ds to be hoping for a snow day tomo. I just want to do some crafting ds has not been keen to assist in allowing crafting time recently. Hmm We have had more snow that some years but less than others so I guess average for here.

BiddyPop · 02/02/2018 13:20

This is the current scarf in progress (boring K2P2 rib all the way) which will be for a man. The browner wool beside it is going to make a similar scarf for another man. The variegated purple is going to make a different rib (I hope) for a woman.

Then I have a plain black cotton "wavy" and plain black cotton "chevron" planned for 2 men to wear with work suits. Possibly similar in brighter colours for at least 1 woman.

And I've seen a very bright variegated wool for 1 particular woman, and know the colours I want for another couple of people (I still have to buy those). But the overall plan involves 14 scarves in the next 326 days.....I may be a gibbering wreck by Christmas! Xmas Grin

BTW I would LOVE a snow day or 2!!

Bowerbird5 · 03/02/2018 01:57

Love the colours.

Mine is a bit like the green one but blues and purples.

Sorry haven't been about. I haven't been well.

That's lovely Biddy, it looks lovely and cozy 😊

Sorry you've not been well Bower 😔

I have had a very successful crafting day, I've sewn all the 'books' and background together, I'm really really pleased with it, definitely not bad for a first go at patchwork 😊 And given that my aim was to get this bit (plus the bottom) done by the end of feb, I'm well ahead of schedule! 😁
