Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Done my list and found myself with some free time. Great I thought I'd spend some wholesome time with the kids, I actually asked dd to play with me but then we fell out because all she wants to play is hide and seek and all I can see are all the toys she got for Christmas and I'm starting to wonder why we bother! It isn't her fault she has too much stuff though.

We made up and played hide and seek then with some playmobil so all wasn't lost. Just feel a bit annoyed with myself for getting cross about something so ridiculous.

Cagliostro · 09/01/2018 16:59

I do that a lot foxes I need to not sweat the small stuff.

Well, new rule, no playing with neighbours on weeknights before clubs. I thought it'd be better if friend was at ours rather than them all playing out but nope. Still waiting for bus and tempted to give up but I'm determined to improve our attendance this year

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/01/2018 17:11

Just a quick one to say thank you to those of you that recommended The Crown! I finished series 2 yesterday and I LOVED it. Can't believe I've got to wait so long for series 3!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/01/2018 22:20

Had a brief thought of doing something
useful (calendar all laid out downstairs to check through work dates) but probably is best just to go to bed. So I can very much relate to the current me / future me debate Hills. I bet we all can sometimes Grin. Hot water bottle and early night is sometimes necessary.

zoo, sorry to hear about poorly kitty. Do you have a PDSA or similar vets near you? They are sometimes free.

foxes, perhaps I should check out the Crown too. Also, you have two young children. Losing your shit briefly once in a while tends to happen Flowers.

Hope you made it to your club Cag. New rule sounds good. Weekday evenings in termtime can be tricky sometimes.

Mercury, yes, craft mornings etc not always easy with other little ones.

Lovely to hear back from you undiluted. It sounds as if you are really getting a system together (Envy jealous!!).

Big wing flaps to everyone else. I am gathering stuff together quickly for tomorrow and then my bed is calling.

Cagliostro · 09/01/2018 22:48

ta da continued
✅got over my shit mood
✅made it to tap on time despite missing bus
✅handed in registration form finally, and took the opportunity to ask about a trial lesson for DS
✅cooked dinner
✅cleared out a bag I haven’t used in months... embarrassingly cluttered
✅English workbook with Caglets

Really glad DH is off tomorrow and Thursday. Hopefully we can achieve a fair bit, although I always say that and we usually don’t. But maybe as DH and I have discussed it we will manage more.

Time to attempt to get Cagletini in her bed. She had a huge nap in the sling this evening though.

Cagliostro · 09/01/2018 23:21

Aim for the next two days is to get our room sorted at least enough for Cagletini to sleep next to the bed rather than on it! I hate sorting our room though as basically it is one giant BRC. Everything gets shoved in there when we don’t know what to do with it. We also have most of the Caglets’ toys and clothes as their room is so tiny, plus baby stuff of course.

Also I want to go through the box of baby clothes - I was sent an awesome and huge box of hand me downs but it was more than I thought we’d need (I was mostly right as she’s not a sicky baby at all and we have a massive washing machine and tumble dryer) so I just took my favourites out. However we don’t have enough 0-3m vests so going to pull out a few more rather than using the excuse to rush out and buy some that’ll be outgrown in a couple of weeks. Also I have other outgrown stuff to put back in the box (I’m putting everything aside to send on). I think I’ll need to buy some bigger stuff soon as she has caught up in weight.

Living room is definitely improving gradually but still needs some work before I’m happy to have my first pupil (lovely kid, but very observant and with no filter on his comments!) on Friday

Afreshnewyearplease · 10/01/2018 05:12

Urgh. Its an up at 430 kinda day

Callmecordelia · 10/01/2018 06:28

Morning! I've been a bit quiet. Haven't got much flying done this week. I wasn't feeling like doing the home bleugh on Monday, so I did anti procrastination day then and ironed two huge tablecloths that had been used and washed over Christmas and put them away.

To do
Clean hob and hood
Wipe down kitchen surfaces and cupboards
Put away clothes
Washing
Fill in direct debit form for beavers
Anti procrastination - deal with the clothes that are too small pile outside DD's room.

DS has been sleeping terribly over the last week or so. Yesterday he didn't even nap. Shock

I need that afternoon nap!

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/01/2018 09:23

I don't do late and am not in a good mood.esp as it chucked it down halfway to school, giving me a 45min walk in it.grrr

DS leaves normally at 745-750.dd2 750.they left together scurrying at 755(by time they were finally awake to when left house an impressive 15 mins each.more so dd2 found time to put on lip gloss and mascara(packs bags night before) and D's insisted still needed 2 huge bowls cereal....

I really feel like going back to bed for a na and starting again(didn't sleep well hence overslept).D's realises now why I shout at him for keeping lil zoo awake-this morning having been kept up 5 nights running to gone 11 and been super irritable in mornings and afterscholl she failed to wake early today and thus my second alarm call (her)failed and we all overslept.....

To do
Way to much

Must crack on...

WhispersOfWickedness · 10/01/2018 09:56

Eek, zoo, sounds like a very stressful morning 😔
Just a quick one as I'm in the car.

Grab lunch
Go to school to do reading with kids
Reboot laundry
Dinner in slow cooker
Sweep and mop kitchen floor

Cagliostro · 10/01/2018 11:26

Very unproductive so far. DH has sent me back to bed as baby is asleep. But I’m also aware of how much there is to do. I’ll give it a while and if I can’t sleep I’ll get up.

Also we realised tomorrow we will likely be out of the house most of the day. Argh. When can we tidy?

Bowerbird5 · 10/01/2018 14:14

Off today.

Anti - procrastination day
Rang surgery to speak to asthma nurse. I did ring last night as I was suddenly quite wheezy no reason other than DH had cooked Roast Pork and it was a bit smoky when I walked in kitchen for one minute. He denies this but bottom of roasting pan said different and it had been left soaking last night.tried ringing last night to discover no receptionist after 6:00 now rang at 6:30 after dinner because I know My GP is on until 8pm. So he would have been there but I couldn't speak to him because I couldn't get through. Hmm! Anyway got through today and had good chat with her. She thinks I have this virus as well so on steroids and upped medication to four times( I had doubled it) normal. No school until next week at earliest. They are going to love me but I was sent home on Tuesday.
I did plea to do book case but dust and there is lots no good to me so will have to leave it.
Might try ironing and putting away clothes later. Had a nap already at 12:30 ish as dozed off upright on sofa.
Plus point is snood is coming along well so by the time I go back to work I should be able to use it. Good for playground duty. Might have to ask not to go out when icy.
Three open boxes of old toys I have been meaning to sort I will try and do today but feeling exhausted at the moment. I could do the colouring for intervention group. That would be good if I got ahead and laminated it all. Now where on earth is my laminator oh it is in the craft room 😳😱 which is a horrendous mess you can barely get in there. Would love to sort it while I'm off but fear it would be too, too much. Definitely Flylady's 15 minutes only then come up for air.
So a not much going to be done day. Now where are my colouring pencils.

Bowerbird5 · 10/01/2018 14:19

Oh, lots of mistakes. Punctuation and Iit is plan not plea. Need to press that , more heavily. Feeling a bit crap to be honest. Nurse said this virus is flooring lots of her asthma patients.
