Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Oh Hills I'm an overthinker too and it really does take over your whole life and make you feel crap. Yes preoccupy yourself with something nice.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 08/01/2018 21:54

Yes, sounds like a busy day on here! Hills, hope you get some rest tonight if not sleep. zoo, dress for DD1 sounds fab and it sounds as if she would look amazing in anything (Envy jealous!!). I am also capable of overthinking FlyingJellyfish.

Sympathies re job Fooland. I am intermittently job hunting but very difficult to find a job that fits round childcare (despite what most of Mumsnet would have me believe AngryAngryAngry).

Big wing flaps to all. Links next...

Just a quick one as I've not been in long, no more flying done.
Thank you for the comments about the quotes, DS made quite a few, so I will keep hold of them and post some more the next time someone's struggling 😅
Thank you for tomorrow's links, I have more time at home on a Tuesday and Wednesday, so hoping to making a good dent in the zone work (especially as it's the kitchen which is my cleaning nemesis 😫)

Cagliostro · 08/01/2018 22:40

DH will be doing any dusting / vacuuming.

foxessocks · 09/01/2018 08:34

Morning! Feeling incredibly lazy. Dd doesn't have nursery today and we slept in until 8! ShockI'm drinking coffee in bed while she watches some tv and ds is stirring slightly now. He was up at 5 crying a lot but settled back down in the end. Think maybe it was his teeth.

To do
Daily routine
Declutter in kitchen
Planning
Swish and swipe bathroom
Wipe cabinets

foxessocks · 09/01/2018 08:35

I always press post and remember one more thing -

Pop to shop for bits for dinner
Take old medicines into chemist

Lisette40 · 09/01/2018 08:39

Finished major spring clean. House air feels much cleaner. Joining regular Flylady programme now. Plan day so will do Tesco shop online. Must plan something nice to do too.

WhispersOfWickedness · 09/01/2018 09:27

Morning all! Feeling really lazy today, but must just push myself out of it and get on.

Ta da:
Dishwasher filled
Washing machine on

To do:
Wipe down kitchen surfaces
Clean hob
Declutter 15 mins
Sweep kitchen floor
Tidy living room
Craft!

Cagliostro · 09/01/2018 09:55

Morning :)

Fairly decent sleep - baby dozed off in basket at 12, came in with me at 4 for a brief feed and slept till 8 on me. She's finished a proper feed so need to get up and get stuff done. I always struggle with motivation after a decent productive day but I need to push through it.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/01/2018 10:05

Morning all.

I totally failed at going to bed by 11pm last night so must do better at that tonight.

Ta da:-
Girls at school
Identified and fixed (well DH did) a diary clash
On the bus to city centre as need to return two completely unsuitable Xmas presents. Realistically this will take all morning.

To do:-
Go through calendar looking for more clashes
Return gifts
Charity shop
Buy breakfast cereals

Glad you had an ok night Cag and that you got a lie in foxes. Whispers, do you need the pointy stick (gentle motivational tool!)?

Bower, sorry but I had to chuckle at your description of stashing and dashing stuff before your visitor came.

Star for sring clean lisette

Wing flaps to all.

OP posts:
Afreshnewyearplease · 09/01/2018 10:51

I had a lie in!

Did not have to get out of my bed until 640 am

Woooohooo

WhispersOfWickedness · 09/01/2018 11:01

No pointy stick needed, I have nearly finished my to do list 😇 😁
A few more added to it:
Sort washing (this will be later when dc are back from School as they put their own clothes away.
Sort pile of clutter on stairs created by decluttering the top of the microwave 😳😂

Ta das:
Wiped kitchen surfaces
Sorted out TWO kitchen cupboards, including UNDER THE SINK! (Don't you just hate it when you finish sorting out a cupboard, shut the doors and then turn around to find the biggest bottle of rinse aid that missed being put back in? 😒)
Declutter top of microwave (found a card on there to DH from last summer, so that's how long it has been piling up 😳)
Cleaned hob
Unloaded and refilled dishwasher
Swept kitchen floor
Quick tidy of living room

Am now sat down having a well deserved rest 😁

Cag, as someone who had sleep-resistant babies, that sounds like a great night's sleep, I hope you feel a bit more rested 😊 I also know what you mean about no motivation after a productive day, what is that all about?! It's like my brain can't cope with the thought of cleaning on consecutive days, like 'NOPE, I've already done that!!' 😒🙈
Bower, I am also known for hiding stuff in my room when we have guests 😳 It doesn't help that our only toilet is upstairs! There is a lot of door closing that goes on when people come round 😅

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/01/2018 11:14

Great lie in Afresh. Absolutely amazing ta da list Whispers!!

Ta da:-
Stuff done in town
On bus now

To do:-
Look at diary while on bus

Cagliostro · 09/01/2018 12:22

Stash and dash is the story of my life. The Caglets are also well trained to make sure our bedroom door is shut when people are here!

I'm feeling quite crap this morning but I did have a proper damage limitation type talk with DH about how to deal with the fact we are both exhausted and grumpy with each other. More positive now but still a bit wobbly now he's gone to work and wish he was staying home. But I need to deal with it like a grown up.

Cagletini is finally napping so I should get up and do stuff and have lunch. Will post ta da list in a while.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 09/01/2018 12:55

Hey folks,
Flybaby here back with an update.
I've been keeping to the plan since Christmas. I have a reasonable daily routine in place and have been sorting clutter every day.
The living room already looks a little better without the storage boxes full of crap that used to be there.
Yesterday I started on the kitchen and cleared out one drawer (Ta-Dah!) I'm hoping to gradually free up more cupboard and drawer space and then put away some of the stuff that's currently all over the surfaces.
The next thing I need to do is draw up a weekly routine that works for me, taking out the jobs DH does and adding in things like bulk uplift day.

Bowerbird5 · 09/01/2018 13:34

Yes upstairs doors firmly shut with me lying on bed. Room looks messy now due to some bags. DH has just shouted to say he has gone. He seemed quite pleasant but I took off soon after giving tea and cake out. He is a financial advisor and I know it is important but it just bores me. It was for DH anyway looking towards pension😳 where did the time go!
So got my TA Das done before 11 with a bit of help from DH and I cleaned the bathroom. Yep ours is only one unless you count outside shed loo. Gardening only and needs a seat, bloody cold sitting on it this time of year.
Didn't take all bags up lined others up neatly. Haven't decluttered them I might do one this afternoon. Or not. Would like a nap actually.
Would like to do another shelf of bookcase. I was eyeing up DS1 empty bookcase in his newly decorated sitting room. It looks lovely that boy should have been an interior designer! The picture I bought for his birthday complements the one his sister gave him and they look like they were painted for the room. Uncany.
Off to have lunch DH has just shouted it's ready. It's a pasty.
PS don't mind you having a giggle about stash and dash. Was a bit marry about putting things back in cupboard though. Need to find homes for that stuff. Hmm can smell it.

Cagliostro · 09/01/2018 13:53

If you're not careful stashing and dashing creates what we call BRCs. Bags/Boxes of Random Crap. We usually have absolutely heaps although thankfully decluttering has drastically reduced this.

Cagletini didn't nap very long. Sigh. Glad I got a few bits done this morning and while she was asleep I also got lunch on the go.

ta da
✔️drying done
✔️towels hung up
✔️calculated bills
✔️filled in diary
✔️maintenance wash on WM
✔️got Caglets to hang shoes and choose some to get rid of
✔️got DH to put away a few things I'm not tall enough for
✔️cleaned and packed away a few board games

We've had lunch and now getting on with some more home ed stuff. I feel really down but may as well try and do stuff

Afreshnewyearplease · 09/01/2018 13:55

Ds has napped for four hours. I have used this time well by doing next to nothing

Bowerbird5 · 09/01/2018 14:16

Mardy! Not marry. Blooming IPad.
Two bits of toast and pate. You get random things when DH is in the kitchen but he missed the pate which needed using and opened one he bought last night. It wasn't very nice. He thought the other one was a pudding😳😁 it's in a little pot. It looks like pate, it says pate and he commented on it one night.

Bowerbird5 · 09/01/2018 14:24

Ha ha afresh i love it.this thread makes me giggle too.

💐 Cags that is a great list. Sorry you are feeling down. Having babies plays havoc with you're hormones.
I definitely have BRCs in my house and then sometimes keep looking in the same one arrrggh! To see what is in there then promptly forget.
