Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Happy flying everyone.

Just taking down Christmas decs now while watching the Beeb.

Subtleconstraints · 06/01/2018 21:29

And should have said, list much, much, easier because I am alone ATM so can be totally single-minded.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/01/2018 21:45

Hello all, am about to collapse as have had enough now so will do some quick personals then post links.

SC, sorry to hear of plumbing issue. Does not sound fun! Sympathies on homework Hills. I guess it must get harder once they get older and have the control themselves about whether they do it or not.

Cag, you know you are never behind!

Lisette, hope tummy bug doesn’t last long Flowers.

Fooland, DD2’s nursery (when she was still there) introduced homework at parents’ request!! Madness Angry.

Whispers, lovely to hear of a good Head.

zoo and Hills, I will write a note about reading non school books in the diary, thanks.

Big wing flaps to all. I am off to eat a ready meal which was in the freezer but should not have been frozen... wonder how it will taste Hmm.

Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

We are in zone 1 this week which is
the entrance, front porch and dining room.

However, it’s the weekend, so no missions or zone work unless you want to.

Please have a look through the information on the website at the relevant zones as I know Flylady is keen that we do look at the website.

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 1 is here.

Hi all!

whispers it's because melatonin is made by the body but not enough in some people with autism, but I think when supplemented it might discourage the body to bother making its own or something? They said if she doesn't have breaks it will become less effective anyway and we'd have to increase the dose. Anyway she was out like a light tonight so glad to be back on it.

Our school used to allow any reading book to be recorded I think. Re homework, my friend is a reception teacher and a lot of the parents demand homework. She doesn't like setting it.

Fun afternoon at the circus, today has been somewhat marred by high anxiety levels for me though. I'm much better at handling it now though and it just 'is' rather than taking over IYSWIM

ta da
✔️organized forms for dancing
✔️made it to new place for circus
✔️put dryer on
✔️organised snacks instead of spending more
✔️brought Cagletini up early... She has just drifted off so I am going to attempt sleep!

CotswoldStrife · 06/01/2018 23:09

Evening - we did buy the sofa and chair and look forward to reclining luxury early next week. This will mean a major tidy of the room and squashing the current seating arrangements into the dining half (therefore rendering it out of action). I think it is a sign of age when you sit down and go 'ooh, super comfy' in a chair.

I don't know if it's due to the pathway of care or the busyness of the NHS but DH has a very early appointment tomorrow (Sunday!) so we will all be up and out with him. I will take lots of electronic babysitters gadgets for DD to play on and snacks. DD slept a lot last night but is still awake now which could make tomorrow morning interesting Hmm

DH has taken the Christmas decorations down. The place looks bare and trashed at the same time!

Afreshnewyearplease · 07/01/2018 04:29

< slumps in corner >

Ds has been up and down since ..... 12.30. Bloody molars. Had to come downstairs as he was screaming the house down

Bowerbird5 · 07/01/2018 05:31

Ahh bless him. Is Bonjela still on the go or it banned nowdays?

I love this thread!
Such varied Ta Das
Pulled ropes for tree surgeon. 😁 You got to love it!

Fantastic list.
I know the feeling about getting more done.
W e got all the decs put away. DH did take them off the tree while I wrapped and put into the tins but then he left the biggest box downstairs. I had to heave it up later. He did put the tree out. We leave ours in the garden for the little birds to shelter in. Must buy some bird seed today. I need some lard too and make some fat balls to hang in it.
I managed to re-organise another shelf of books but had to stop because of the dust.😳there hasn't been a duster near there for a while. It is in the hall. It used to be in the sitting room but when we got a new stove the pipes were larger so it was chop it down or move it.hoping by re-organising I will have more room ha! Trouble is Marie Kondo I love them all.
Hoping to get back to sleep for an hour or two. Hate this waking in middle of the night.

Subtleconstraints · 07/01/2018 06:25

Morning all!

Good luck to you and your DH at the hospital this morning Cotswold Flowers

Strong Brew for Afresh and Bear for your ds poor lad; teething is no fun.

Bower and SC, I also love all the ta das and general variety Smile.

Ping supper was ok!

Having a quiet morning here, taking advantage of not going out until lunchtime and last day of holidays. Need to get on now though and get breakfast on the go.

To do:-
Breakfast
Morning routine
Hopefully 15 mins decluttering in living room (for any newbies, I tend to ignore the zones and just declutter what suits at the time but we are officially in zone 1).
Get school stuff ready for tomorrow
Early lunch as we are out early afternoon.

Afreshnewyearplease · 07/01/2018 08:08

Bongela is still sold however it can only be used i think once in 3 hours. We use a dentinox gel that can be applied every 20 min if required. Ds slept 6-7 so think i had about an hour on sofa. Dd then up at 7 too.
We have mil coming for sunday lunch and i feel like shit. Great.

WhispersOfWickedness · 07/01/2018 08:41

Cag - ok, that makes sense. Still a bit rubbish for her and you when she is off it though 😔

Massive sympathies for those who were up early 😔 I think I'm still recovering from those early years of no sleep, they were so brutal on my physical and mental health 😔

Ok, to dos for today (when I finally make it out of bed 😳)
Up, shower, dressed, breakfast
Morning routines (dishwasher, washing etc)
Zone cleaning for zone 1 (hoovering hall, stairs and landing, maybe a bit of dusting, tidy hall for the THIRD time this week😠)
Swish and swipe bathroom
Onto craft stuff if I have time 😁 (see craft thread)

Hope everyone has a productive day 😊

Afreshnewyearplease · 07/01/2018 09:01

Ta da

Dryer on
Washer on
Highchair scrubbed

foxessocks · 07/01/2018 09:17

Morning all! Sorry for being awol , ended up having a busy day yesterday. Dd and ds both had high temps / no appetite Friday but woke up Sat a lot better. Both seem fine today so hopefully that was it...

Yesterday I found the log in information for my tax return so that was something - baby steps!!

We are having my mum's birthday celebrations take two today since she was poorly on her actual birthday.

To do
Daily routine
Exercise DVD (new year resolution!)
Look at tax return a bit more (not committing to finishing it!)

Hope you all have a relaxing Sunday.

afresh Brew sympathies on the teething, hope you have a better night tonight.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 07/01/2018 10:03

Great to hear from you foxes and Star for making start on tax return (finding details is a start Smile).

Ta da:-
15 mins in living room - lego sorting
Morning routine although none of us dressed yet

To do:-
Get dressed
Ensure kids get dressed
Get DD1 to do more work on bloody poster

OP posts:
Bowerbird5 · 07/01/2018 10:12

Glad to hear they are on the mend foxes.

Can still remember the teething and youngest is 26! You have my heartfelt sympathy.
SC I bet many don't go out. I could declutter DH s easily. Might wait till he is away. I am hoping by rearranging them there will be more space or at least it will look better. I'm going to vacuum the dust off later. Gives you an idea how much dust. Yes, it would compare to an under the bed expedition, zoo

To do.
Get ready for church.
Meeting at 1 pm
Choir starts back today.
Grab something for tea in between those things as it isn't worth coming home in between so supermarket stop somewhere or take away if I don't manage it. As DH drools over co op pizza I could always repeat that purchase! After an M&S curry this week I have told him we will be doing that once a week so I can concentrate more on cleaning on Saturdays instead of cooking. I normally cook from scratch.
SC the one thing about the lone chicken is she is becoming more friendly. Tapping on the door for her breakfast now. I picked her up this week and she didn't protest quite as much. I nearly lost her. I went for logs the other day and a very large, black cat was stalking her and took off over the wall when it saw me. Never seen it before so could be feral. I'll ask the vet. He knows all the village pets.

Afreshnewyearplease · 07/01/2018 10:26

Ta da

Dryer on x2
Washer on x2
Highchair scrubbed
Bins empty
Dry pots away

Ds is napping. I need to go in dds room. Its fucking awful

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/01/2018 12:06

Today is a stressful crappy kinda day.
Tomorrow I will be out of the house, I am really really looking forwards to it.

No flying will happen here today or tomo.

WhispersOfWickedness · 07/01/2018 12:55

Ugh Hills, we all have days like that, look after yourself and don't beat yourself up about it 😔 The day after tomorrow is another day 😁

I have managed by some miracle to complete my to do list from this morning. Have created a few extra jobs on the way though, so need to get on with those too though... think I can squeeze in some crafting though 😉

foxessocks · 07/01/2018 16:08

We know what you mean zoo!

Subtleconstraints · 07/01/2018 16:44

Ah well, DD and DH are safely home and DD has made it apparent that she prefers life in Blighty, all of her friends' families are ten times better than ours, and everyone on Facebook is having a better time than her. I know it's only "back to school/reality" blues speaking (and visits to Blighty are all tea and cakes because she is spoilt rotten by her aunts, it's always during the holidays when everyone has time off etc) but still it is rather deflating to hear on the last day of the Christmas holidays when we have busted a gut to entertain her and her friends and thought she and they'd had a good time. Never mind. Sad

Off to drown my sorrows in naughty corner in search of Zoo's secret stash of midget gems. Anyone seen the Gin?
