Morning.

Tomorrow is December 1st which means roll call for the fledglings and shiny new thread. It might seem a bit clicky but it is because it is a long term thread, park your arse in the naughty corner for moral support, natter and various delicious goodies. Oh and smidge of housework too.

We follow the flylady system HOWEVER we adapt it to suit the circumstances of our lifes and sometimes we ignore the slightly more fluffy/bonkers babysteps --because we can and there ain't no one the boss of us

UUmmm thanks for swanky new cake emoticon Zoo¨!

Hills yes, totally right, repeated craptastic failure on my part, plus this has been an ongoing battle for aeons ... we all sleep on different floor to main bathroom but boudoir (next to bathroom) contains some of our wardrobes and chest of drawers with current clothes but not all of them (very poor flow to put it mildly). So people get washed in bathroom/dressed in boudoir, yet it is not our proper bedroom, so it becomes dumping ground and as soon as I clear it up it gets messy again so on and so on and no one else can be bothered to return clothes upstairs. It all came about because electrics need doing properly on sleeping floor + electrics + floor, so we were trying to keep everything sparse up there until it was done (which has obviously taken a lot longer than anticipated!). Hence second bathroom on floor on which we sleep (now to be completed in NY) [sigh] which hopefully should break cycle (once second floor has been renovated and removers have come and moved furniture up a floor). Just very poor planning all around. Entire house is like this frankly. Aarrggh.

Wow Cordelia your Christmas plans sound amazing! (I used to be organised like that once upon a time but lost it somewhere along the line ... I don't have spread sheet but do have all-important Christmas file) Especially like the sound of your Mexican Christmas eve theme! Imagining lots of healthy food with sharp/spicy flavours which will be a lovely contrast to richer Christmas day grub! We happen to be RC and have a tradition of eating very frugally on Christmas eve but I might nick your Mexican idea for NY if I may!! Really colourful and warming at this time of year too!

Hello all, thanks for the heads up about the links Einstein.

For January I was wondering about being more detailed in the personals but less detailed in the links ifswim? As in, if Flylady and MN are clamping down on links / spam then maybe a more general link to the launchpad (where it is pretty easy to find everything) and then a link to flykids and the holiday cleaning missions if they are still running? I know it’s more work than just clicking on the links but from the laundpad you can easily find missions etc and it is at least directing people more to look at the website. Or is it the copy and paste rather than links that Flylady doesn’t like?

What does everyone think?

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/12/2017 20:39

Posting to the link is what flylady wants ie link to babystep rather than full detail so you don't need to go to her site. Which is what she is clamping down on.

It is mnhq that is clamping down on links that look like spam so potentially as long as it is in the middle of other stuff it could be ok. It is the same poster just posting a list of links that seems to be the problem. So for example my nice little list that I used to be able to c&p will now need to be wordy and verbose with links Hmm yeah I can manage that on a good day so on a bad day you will get a novel WinkGrin I think it might be a case of playing around and doing different formats throughout the month but it is impossible to know for sure because we don't know how *HQ8 has set up the back end so not sure what criteria it is looking at for blocking spam iyswim?

I am going to play with a few things and see what happens with the links this month as it is all chaos anyway and hopefully we can figure it out for the new year when the serious decluttering and fly routine establishment is more likely to happen if that is ok with people?

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/12/2017 20:47

Yes that makes sense now Hills, thanks. That sounds like a plan then, very happy for you to play around if it will then make the busy January thread easier for me Grin.

Re. the age thing, I’m late thirties (but feel about 12 most days!).

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/12/2017 20:47

Just to be clear it is copying full sections of info from flylady site that she is clamping down on. Back in the day we didn't really used to post links the person leading the thread used to post the information that was needed for the day in fairly deep detail. Obviously when Flylady started with the issue of copyright that was when we started with the links and slightly less detail in posting for the day and with the discussions over the steps etc.

Mn has had serious issues with spam as long as it has issues with trolls. Some of the trolls have been spammy trolls so I can see why an algorithm that looks for almost identical posts would be beneficial and my hunch it is posts that look very similar and are mostly a link that is where the issue is. Which is why I think SC's style of link posting is not causing any alarms for the algorthm. However, if i post in that style for a while and we have problems with the links that we might need to consider further how things are done, possibly just links in the OP.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/12/2017 20:49

I copied Cotswold’s link style which I believe she got from SC. Yes, let’s just see how it goes then, loads of you have been around longer than me and understand all this stuff more Xmas Smile.

Cagliostro · 14/12/2017 21:00

I'm so confused. How could flylady clamp down on or even be aware of what is posted on other sites? I am a luddite though.

My disorganization got even more ridiculous earlier as I realized it was the badgers party and thus at a slightly different time to normal. So we were too early. And I also forgot a snowsuit for Cagletini as she was in the sling when we left (not supposed to use outerwear with them), luckily we had the huge pram blanket for when she went in the buggy later.

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/12/2017 21:00

HAHAHAHAHA MNHQ is making it up as they go along, we just have to guess GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

This entire conversation is WAY over my head .....

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/12/2017 21:25

Cag - it is actually quite easy and one of the reasons why Gina ford (i think it was gina ford) and all references to her were deleted because there was some sort of legal hoo haa that went on hence the swcbn (she who can't be named) issue quite a while back. That aspect is not new. Copyrighting of material and its transfer between sites is a very common issue so there is dedicated software/algorhythms for it.

Mind you tech updates causing things not to work how you would expect is also not new on mn Hmm

I need to catch up on the thread but Stressy has said what I thought was the case with the links - fine to link to the Flylady website but not to just type them out without the links we need a private FB group

You can set a Google alert for words and phrases, so I think they would be able to spot someone passing the missions or babysteps, for instance, off as their own quite quickly.

Today I cleaned the draining board and the half-sink of doom, tomorrow the main one. Bit of tidying. DD off school sick (not the only one, bugs aplenty going round here) but hoping she will be OK for tomorrow.

Never ending laundry here too, where does it all come from?!

Sludgecolours · 14/12/2017 22:00

If you look at the foot of this page here with the red type "A note from Flylady" she reiterates about only copying links not content. If my memory serves me correctly, this is phrased slightly more emphatically than previously.

Tbh though, she's definitely closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. If you Google around you can see endless Flylady content being reproduced in Pinterest, various housekeeping blogs, YouTube etc etc.

Still, it wouldn't hurt to be more careful here.

Sludgecolours · 14/12/2017 22:07

Hills sorry to be so thick. I don't understand why the links you posted on Thurs eve worked and ones you posted earlier didn't ie what did you do that was different and what do we have to do differently in future ifyswim?

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/12/2017 22:15

I copied and pasted a previous post with adding to the start and to the end. Tbh I have no idea why it worked/didn't work but I do know there was work happening on the spam filter, also the ones I posted last night were not just a list of links there was other words in it too which is why I think the just link format is not working and the links with other words is ok.
Copying previous posts and editing would appear to be a bit fat fail.

Think I get it (not entirely sure) but I'm afraid (sod's law operating) that link doesn't work for me Grin

Bowerbird5 · 14/12/2017 22:50

Hi,
50 cards done and some more ready for tomorrow. Didn't take long to do the 50. No housework done but shined school sink. Been to sing carols. Really tired.everything ready except cake as Went to make it and DD had drunk all the milk. So tired.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/12/2017 22:51

Thanks for that link SC, I see what Flylady is saying. I think I have reached the limits of my understanding now with posting links so will watch and wait and see what happens before Jan.

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/12/2017 23:09

There wasn't supposed to be a link there!!!! MNQH have definitely been pissing about with links. I deliberately put spaces between the start of the stuff and the last ]] which should have stopped it auto posting. FFS!

I put
[[https://

in front of the copied text and then

]] after it

OP posts:

Oh ffs. they totally have been pissing about with links. Angry

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 14/12/2017 23:13

The last time I split the words over several lines which should have stopped the links and would have done in the past. sorry, meant to explain but got enraged at not being able to get it to show up
