If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine and Cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it November already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore the barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to the emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here!.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

What ho my lovelies! Bloomin' well done everybody - you have all been Flying high! Terrific stuff!

[Places extra warm fleeces over CallmeCordelia Bowerbird Hills and Zoo in haughty/naughty corner, plumps cushions, stokes fire, and notes breakfast orders for morning.]

Fantastic costume idea Zoo! And congrats on great list achieved Star I am permanently baffled by the disappearing teaspoons in this house ... and no toddlers to blame. Hope your friend is ok x

Cag nourishing a babe in arms definitely counts as Flying! Star and arf at boob ta da list Grin

Toostressy poor you with the badge sewing and extra work! Have a well deserved slice of sustaining Cake and a sneaky nip of Gin

Bloomin' fantastic list Afreshstart especially sorting out craft cupboard on top of everything else Star Star Star

Enjoy your well deserved days off Bowerbird and hope you are headed Harrogate way this w/e!

Well done for starting on the Christmas cards CallmeCordelia! (I always find it's not such a terrible job once actually started ... although of course I haven't yet.) And yes, best to adapt home bleugh to suit your own home and your own routine, and almost impossible to stick to high Flying standards when working around infant naps etc x

Great to "see" you again I'vegotbills! Arf at your dogs Pavlovian Zoflora response! Grin Grin Good luck with mil prep!

Cotswold oh dear re: endless school requests and cancelling guests (although I always have an inward "jump up and down with delight" when my guests cancel) although I am sure it is not very helpful when it happens repeatedly!

Cheery wing flaps to Longtime FlyingJellyfish Honu Whoknows and anyone else I have missed!

Although I managed to escape for most of the day ... it has been a long one here ... very tall house with lots and lots of stairs ... workmen spent the day shouting and trudging loudly (no stair carpet) up and down, up and down, interspersed with very loud drilling, enthusiastic banging, bursts of cold from them continually going in and out front door and clouds of brick and plaster dust floating from on high. All necessary stuff but I'll be v glad when it is finished ... on the positive side it seems to be on schedule thankfully!

G'night all x

Thanks SC Smile. Sewing done to the best of my ability (so not very well!). Going to put the sewing kit away and collapse into bed.

HillsBesideTheSea · 28/11/2017 23:40

We seem to have 1001 of the fucking things. Tea spoons seem to be collecting here specifically to party in the cutlery drawer and causing the bastarding thing to jam shut.

Sludgecolours · 28/11/2017 23:59

Hills Funnily enough it is the corkscrew that usually causes the kitchen drawer to jam here .. .probably because it's our most frequently used kitchen implement! Wink

Sleep well Toostressy!

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/11/2017 00:21

It is well used here but that is only because I keep snapping swift pegs Blush helps get the bits out.

Cagliostro · 29/11/2017 02:58

Afresh yep she's definitely still dinky! Feels so much heavier now though. I am going to go through her bigger newborn clothes (for some reason it seems half the shops say newborn is 7lb and half say it's 10lb?!) as they may actually fit now.

DH off today and we are not going anywhere until the afternoon when the Caglets have clubs. With any luck that means we can get a few things done although I'm also hoping to get a nap in somewhere, and we all need baths which seems to take forever!

Does anyone here use the Android MN app and if so how the devil do you do the emojis please? The smiley button at the bottom of the screen doesn't seem to do anything.

Afreshstartplease · 29/11/2017 05:05

Morning all

Up at 430 with teething ds who is now happily ramming pancakes in to his mouth after having a full on screaming fit in my face Hmm i know his teeth hurt but that is a quite unpleasent alarm clock

Afreshstartplease · 29/11/2017 05:12

Throw toast at other dc
Encourage everyone to get dressed washed etc
Find whatever is todays lost object Hmm

Sludgecolours · 29/11/2017 05:29

Eeeeeee!! It's snowing here!! Smile

Good morning all! [Takes trays of Brew and hot buttered toast in to Afreshstart and to Cag and anyone else who has been up half the night with little 'uns.]

[Tiptoes tentatively in to naughty/haughty corner and plays the gently on antique bugle then goes about preparing poncetastically healthy breakfast of scrambled eggs with grilled beef mushrooms and kale, followed by "carpacio" of pineapple with vanilla salt and pomegranite seeds with a red berry smoothie for anyone who needs a boost this morning!

Rise and shine everyone! [Apart from Afreshstart who has already risen and been shining for ages!!]

Hills spare half pegs are ace for cleaning out mud from soles of jodhpur boots!

Sorry Cag no idea about Android app (hopefully someone else will advise) but hope you get your nap today!

Have a good day everyone!

Brewin a vat for afresh

Wash is on
Cats fed
Lav bleach
Last nights tea things washed...

Next up pack ups and potential quick relocation of dining table plus prep vat porridge and selection items to individually pimp it up...
Breakfast has to be in 40mins to allow plenty time to assemble lil zoos hair curses my own entusiasms of yeah we can do a pompadour style with bun on hair long enough to sit on

Afreshstartplease · 29/11/2017 05:58

zoo sympathy on the long hair issues, dd and i both have waist length hair which is so thick we regularly snap bobbles

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/11/2017 06:12

Ds can snap a comb his thick unruly hair(to bra strap level.not that he wears one mind)lil zoo sleeps hers braided or we have a knot fest to contend with and its super thick...
Mines about brastrap level and start to thin but as was also superthick i not panicking.yet .dd2 and 1 similar levels but they both have finer hair that knots up no matter how recently its been brushed

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/11/2017 06:14

Right porridge is on i need find surface table to serve on to as expecting my cack handed lot eat hot food off laps would be destined for disaster!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/11/2017 06:15

Afreshstartplease · 29/11/2017 06:31

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/11/2017 07:43

Temoted to post pic lil zoo.hairs back combed within inch her life n rolled up with socks to give the roll height...

Bowerbird5 · 29/11/2017 07:44

Haha! That made me laugh out loud. The vision! Hmmm porridge brings bowl to zoos house. I was thinking bacon butty in haughty/naughty corner. I 'll have you know I have been awake for ages SC still cosied up in duvet but awake. Been venturing out onto Christmas thread. It is happening isn't it.
Thinking I will try and rope DH into Home Bleugh today since he won't go to the east coast and stay the night which means I need to be on early, early train to get me to course on time. It starts at 9am but later train doesn't get in until 9.02am bet it is coffee first too but don't want to risk missing start.

Bowerbird5 · 29/11/2017 08:27

Delicious porridge thanks zoo.

I'm impressed and I haven't seen it. Hope she has a brilliant day. I loved it when we had the Victorians for a topic,😪 no longer. We went dressed up to a famous place and the kids were so good one year we had to try and explain to some Germans that they were not part of the place and that they couldn't photograph them! I have some amazing photos.

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/11/2017 08:31

Zoo twist hair, allow to curl up and pull end through middle (creating a half knot) tuck end under apply bobble. Works quick with my hair and comes out easily enough when wanted to but not when not wanted to. If in doubt add a few bobby pins/grips

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/11/2017 08:34

No snow here but cars are proper iced up and have been for the last few days so it is now no allowed to snow because it will stick and that will just cause chaos!
