Fledglings Fly back to school & work, September 2017, decluttering along the way ...

Hello, it's time to brush the sand off our feet, empty out the suitcases, sharpen our pencils, polish our lace-up shoes, and get stuck in to the September 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself (cheesy but there is merit to it). The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts of effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

More info available here, here and here.

Your choice whether or not you sign up to the Flylady e-mails, but we advise caution as there are lots of them!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Jam is still at the stage it was left in earlier Although the Jars and lids are in the oven ready to go tomo morning. I burnt myself out in the crafting space. I have gone from a space where there was literally no floor to one where 1/2 is available.

ta da
Laundry finally got put on
dw was emptied, refilled and is currently washing
2 bags for the charity shop created and taken
1 load of stuff for tip created
fabric stashed looked at, Blush and Shock at how many half finished sewing projects there are
Christmas stuff that was never put away properly collected together
books found a home on a space created on a shelf

So anyone got any good storage ideas for wrapping paper? I have a load including rolls of interfacing and bondaweb that I need to store, and the current chuck it in a space is just not working not unsurprisingly

Third attempt at posting links! Hope this works!

And sorry for delay - was out late tonight.

The summary for Saturday 16th September is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 16 for Sat 16th is here. One you can safely ignore imho if you want about reading Flylady e-mails and testimonials etc.

It's our last day in Zone 3 on Saturday : Main Bathroom and another Room, this week (Sept 10-16 inc.) here. (If you do zone work at weekends that is.)

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 3 (if you are at that stage) is here.

FYI the detailed cleaning lists this week cover office, laundry room and children's bedrooms.

Also FYI next week we will be in:
Zone 4: The Master Bedroom, Bath, Closet (September 17-23)

No official mission on Saturday because it is the weekend! Yay!

The daily focus for Saturday is family fun.

The monthly habit for September is the before-bed routine: here.

Flykid's challenge: here (hopefully continually renewing itself).

Daily reminders (which should also update themselves automatically) here.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!!

mermaids job sounds fab Envy cag I have previously posted that meme in my FB feed - sadly so true!

The week continues to be a challenging one here, but things should improve by about tomorrow lunchtime. Oddly specific, but apart from all the stuff failing inside the house I have been a bit stressed because DD has decided to have a go at the school entrance exam round here. I am more worried about than she is, though! At least I can drink wine! Talking of which, excuse me ....

Sandycarrots · 15/09/2017 23:30

Einstein I have wrapping paper rolls in old fashioned metal cream dustbin but takes up a lot of room and open storage never ideal imo. A better alternative would probably be something like this which you could probably make yourself - or one of the following ideas from:
here. Personally I like the back of the door idea (the one from Pintinterest - using a wire shelf turned on its side - or the one from the Love Bugs Blog). And pat yourself on the back for getting the jam almost done (there are only so many hrs in the day!).

That sounds fantastic about your new job Mermaids!

Still/Cag/Einstein Grin arf at animals emptying dw ... oh if only !!! That's just what I need in this house really, a coterie of well trained, energetic squirrels who could reach all the high corners Grin

Zoo hope your ds rallies during weekend and feels much better very soon.

Yay Honu really lovely to see you!! I use radio with sleep function to help me drop off too (dh can't hear it over his snoring Wink). I find listening to the Archers - particularly when Adam is discussing his herbal leys - the perfect antidote to insomnia Grin!

Try and have a restful weekend Cag

Mahoosive wing flaps to Afreshstart Toostressy Foxes Cotswold and everyone I have missed (sorry - brain gone to sleep!).

G'night all!

I'll give it a go SC I've got an alarm set on my phone for it. :)

Thanks Einstein that makes sense about giving it time to break the association. At present I'm not convinced it's gone yet, I think it's the overwhelming sleepiness that is stopping it IYSWIM. So will give it a while longer. Not sure how timing will work out with the baby!

This is what we use for our wrapping paper. Felt a bit daft ordering something specifically for that, but it works a treat as it's covered and doesn't take up much room so was worth it I think. That said I think there's a half used roll from DS' birthday downstairs I haven't added to it yet Blush.

Afresh did you decide on a present yet? I should be ideal help as DD is 10 but she is quite a young 10 IYSWIM. Her current favourite gifts would be a Jojo bow, dinosaur toys, science stuff, anything from Smiggle or a Beanie Boo teddy. It's very difficult without knowing them! I agree craft stuff is probably a safe bet, possibly something fairly open ended rather than overtly 'girly'.

Hoping this morning is better than yesterday :o I am achy though so not particularly looking forward to today (travelling to a family party at a farm Confused) but I would feel bad to miss it. Unfortunately tomorrow is busy too as I have to take the Caglets for their first running event. DH will sort them once there but he has to go earlier for his half marathon. Leading right into another busy week with no break!

Afreshstartplease · 16/09/2017 09:29

Swept leaves - it's definitely autumn now!!

Hoovered
Mopped
2 loads of washing done
Dishwasher loaded and washed
Currently ironing

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 16/09/2017 16:45

Me: I am never making that jam again
My family: OMG you are so mean, that is the best thing ever, I will even stir the pot.
Me: Yeah right.

That particular variety of jam was a faff, and imo not worth the effort. The spoon dipping, get out of my pot members of the family disagree Hmm

I had planned to try to find the rest of the floor. But tbh meh and more meh. Hot water bottle and a curl up for a bit is in order. Especially as I have more fruit to deal with and chicken pie to make from scratch tomo This batch cooking/given fruit thing seems great until the doing...

Newchick · 16/09/2017 19:04

Having done no laundry for days guess what I got to do yesterday and today?!

Still keeping going with 15 mins decluttering in bedroom daily. It's looking much nicer - at least on MY side of the room ;)

Afreshstartplease · 16/09/2017 19:08

Honestly i am so fucked off with dp for second time in three days. This is not feeling like a partnership right now.

Cagliostro · 16/09/2017 21:28

Tiring day today, DD was asleep by 9 Shock glad I did go as it was a nice day but I'm definitely feeling it now and dreading tomorrow as ample seating is highly unlikely (running event).

And the living room has turned into a complete tip again.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 16/09/2017 22:06

I have just had a piece of toast with some of the jam that was not enough for a jar. it is pretty amazing.

But not enough to want to stir a pot that much again in a hurry
