Fledglings Fly back to school & work, September 2017, decluttering along the way ...

Hello, it's time to brush the sand off our feet, empty out the suitcases, sharpen our pencils, polish our lace-up shoes, and get stuck in to the September 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself (cheesy but there is merit to it). The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts of effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

More info available here, here and here.

Your choice whether or not you sign up to the Flylady e-mails, but we advise caution as there are lots of them!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Thanks Celeste! Love our game nights, makes me very happy that DSCs love board games as much as we do. Hoping to try some of our unplayed games this time.

It's soooo cold this morning!

celeste4 · 01/09/2017 07:48

Well its quite the beautful morning here actually. Clear blue sky. Actually one of the things i like about Autumn is the bright blue skies. The blue seems more beautiful in Autumn.

Sandycarrots · 01/09/2017 09:15

Morning all!

Pinch punch to Celeste Smile really beautiful clear skies here too.

Just about to drop dd off at school. Poor girl is so nervous. For some unknown reason they mix the pupils up in the classes each year so no continuity, and she is only friends with two others in her form group. Makes it much harder at the beginning.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 01/09/2017 09:29

Not autumn until the 21st sept

About to go kick the teenager out of bed this is going to go well Hmm
huge long list and the bloody virus is definitely back so I feel like crap. Does it not know I don't have time for its nonsense?!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/09/2017 09:42

Hello all, hope your DD gets on ok at school today SC. Classes here are mixed up too. Every year at primary and apparently at the local secondary they change every 6 months, sometimes more Shock.

I am working an extra shift in a new place tomorrow so have that hanging over me today. Hate working weekends and I have a load of paperwork for the new place to get out and look through tonight. When will my lottery win come through so I can give up this work lark Grin?

Ta da:-
Nearly finished morning routine although kids not dressed yet

To do:-
Finish morning routine
Breakfast for DDs
Encourage DDs to get dressed

Later:-
Soft play
Swimming

Trying to look through some school uniform bits for DD2 as I go along.

Sandycarrots · 01/09/2017 10:12

Thanks Toostressy I was in a class with the same pupils (more or less) right through primary and secondary although that was aeons ago admittedly. Although you went off to different subject groups, it was nice to be able to return to the fold as it were. Hadn't realised all this mixing up was "a thing". Sorry you have to work tomorrow, sounds v stressful. Lord yes to winning the lottery.

Sorry you are feeling so rough Einstein Brew

Didn't get to sleep until 4.30 am last night for some reason so dragging myself through this morning's tasks. Beautiful weather though; think I will start by walking the furry. Then back to doing battle with the laundry.

Have a good day everyone!

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 01/09/2017 10:13

ta da
Phone doctors to ask for magic cream for DCs' blood tests
Get Caglets to put some toys away
Put some board games away
Gathered some paperwork
Got rid of some random crap
Table cleared and cleaned

Long long way to go but we've not done too badly so far considering we started at 9ish. Caglets playing out with neighbours for a bit while DH and I continue sorting stuff. Boring day but needs must.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 01/09/2017 11:13

Ta da:-
Morning routine
Laundry on line and just about to put more in
DD2's school clothes in wardrobe
PE kit in box ready to sort

Still need to label loads of school kit and uniform but realistically that will have to wait for now.

Cagliostro · 01/09/2017 11:44

ta da continued
Got rid of more stuff including Moshi monsters Shock
Got Caglets to put more little bits of Playmobil, Lego etc away
Sorted through little BRCs (loads of teeny tiny stuff)
Lots of stuff moved to bathroom
Play food found and other bits gathered

Tired and hungry now but will stick a wash on - where I gathered the laundry yesterday and DH has added to it it's suddenly looking like two washes worth! So will try and get both done today in the interest of not getting too behind.

Afreshstartplease · 01/09/2017 12:08

Bloody hell so tired i forgot its september

Cagliostro · 01/09/2017 13:27

:) Easily done!

More decluttering going on here. I have to admit I'm mostly doing this from the sofa - being passed piles of things to sort through, getting Caglets to fetch and caddy etc.

Such a huge task but we are definitely doing well today.

ta da continued again
Box repurposed for storing plain card (we have loads)
Book box filled (stuff we don't have room to shelve ATM - not ideal but they are at least in the same place and without a load of other crap mixed in)
Some certificates proudly put up for the Caglets
More tiny BRCs sorted through
Caglets did a little tidying in their room too
Wash load #1 on
Top of craft drawers cleaned (euwwww)

Cagliostro · 01/09/2017 13:39

Forgot the main ta da
No more piles of crap under the table!!!

Newchick · 01/09/2017 14:19

How nice to see you all getting so much done! Thanks so much for welcomes back. Feeling overwhelmed at level of grime and gubbins everywhere (would that be Inspector Grime & Constable Gubbins, the Victorian detectives extraordinaires?))

Back to basics today - ta das so far:

2 loads laundry done and onto line
Kitchen sink shined
Kitchen floor swept
5 mins on hotspots
10 mins on bathrooms
15 mins decluttering in master bedroom

Think I'm going to focus on one room per month for decluttering as then I can really see I'm getting somewhere. Clothes, books and shoes main challenge.

PurpleDaisies · 01/09/2017 17:16

Hi everyone! August turned into s month of mostly being away but I'm back to normal now and back to school today. We were supposed to be getting a cleaned bit it's still too tight financially so back again to this lovely thread.

I wasn't expecting there to already be so many posts so just about to catch up. General wing flaps to everyone. Next job, do whatever today's mission is. I'll report back...

Sandycarrots · 01/09/2017 20:14

The summary for Sat 2nd September is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 2 for Sat 2nd Sept is here. Yes, it's the controversial one about lacing yourself in to shoes the minute your feet hit the floor in the morning... some of us do, some of us don't. It's your choice but newcomers, here is the raison d'être behind it.

After an unusually brief sojourn in Zone 1 (ie one day, today!!) we are now moving on to Zone 2: The Kitchen.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone (if you do zone work at weekends that is!).

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone2 (if you are at that stage) is here.

No missions on Saturday because it is the weekend! Yay!

Presumably that means no Flykids Challenge too? See launch pad if you are looking for it though!

The daily focus for Saturday is: family fun.

The monthly habit for September is: the before-bed routine. (Scroll down.)

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Have a great weekend everyone!

G'night all!

Evenin' all [places thumbs behind coat lapels and knee dips to Inspector Grime and Constable Gubbins] Grin Grin

Which room will you be focusing on during September Newchick?

Lovely to have you back Purple

Hope you survived the day Afreshstart and can catch up on a bit of sleep tonight.

Wowser Cag you are on a roll! Fabulously well done today! Star

Waves to Toostressy and everyone else!

Thankfully dd survived her first two hours or so back at school relatively unscathed although her new timetable looks fairly uncompromising.

Ta da:
rubbish and paper recycling
animals
emptied dw
walked furry
dropped dd off at school
made huge spag bol for dd's return at lunchtime
picked dd up
post office and bank run
ironed four duvet covers, eight sheets, eight pillow cases
washed dog blankets
washed and dried and folded yet more towels
hoovered and dusted ground and first floor
cleaned bathroom and downstairs lav
wiped around fridge
wrote a letter to godchildren and a card to friends
ironed dd riding clothes
folded all washed and ironed laundry in to four paniers, one for each of us and one for "house" - so even though I am behind with the ironing, at least we can find everything Blush
found laptop and charger and camera charger
dog walk two
packed up car

Dh working late tonight so dd and I opted for an easy pizza and film evening tonight with Wine. Off to watch Masterchef now.

G'night all! Have a lovely weekend!

Thanks for fly update Sandy

Sandycarrots · 01/09/2017 20:44

Pleasure Wheely

It's all a bit odd this month with only one day in Zone One. And of course, as usual, Flylady website hasn't updated itself properly, so I am a bit mystified as to exact zone dates during Sept. Will relay when they come up!

Day off work today, mostly spent on laundry and naming new uniform, also taking DCs to dentist and buying all the new term stationery. Lovely sunny day here, so it was nice being able to line dry everything and walk to town. Put away the last of the holiday stuff today too, at last.

CotswoldStrife · 01/09/2017 23:45

Managed to clear some of the washing--up and laundry today but in and out all day so not much accomplished.

Will be reviewing and rewriting lists over the weekend, DD back to school on Tuesday so have a few things to sort out before then!
