Fledglings Fly back to school & work, September 2017, decluttering along the way ...

Hello, it's time to brush the sand off our feet, empty out the suitcases, sharpen our pencils, polish our lace-up shoes, and get stuck in to the September 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself (cheesy but there is merit to it). The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts of effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

More info available here, here and here.

Your choice whether or not you sign up to the Flylady e-mails, but we advise caution as there are lots of them!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

It is absolutely bucketing it down. The car is not getting cleared out.

Vats of coffee, tea and hot chocolate on the naughty corner bar.

Cagliostro · 29/09/2017 08:49

Chucking down here too. Had to cancel sports club so down on money too. Bah. But it means we can have a morning together at home and tackle the living room. Yaaaaay.

foxessocks · 29/09/2017 13:53

ta da
✅taught a maths pupil
✅put wash on
✅supervised/pottered while everyone tidied living room
✅made it to new home ed singing club - and they are very happy for me to bring baby along once she's born which should be nice :)

Not a great day in all though as started the day feeling wiped/grumpy/tearful yet again, and have been disorganised and forgetful so left out one of my sugar tests etc. Novelty has well and truly worn off.

Sorry everyone - I'm here finally - hectic day; only just finished!

Well done lovely Fledglings for your mahoosive decluttering efforts throughout the month of September; achieved despite pregnancy, illness, ill dc, sleep-deprivation, unsupportive partners, demanding jobs etc etc etc! I think you all deserve shiny Flying medals Star and several Halos each!

Final links for the month :

**

The summary for Sat 30th is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 30 for Sat Sept 30 is here. A good one - check your calendar for the month ahead - look out for birthdays and special dates!

We are in Zone 5 this week: The Living Room, Den, Family Room (September 24-30) here - if you do zone work at weekends.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 5 (if you are at that stage) is here.

No mission on Saturday because it is the weekend!

The daily focus for Saturday is family fun.

The monthly habit for September is the before-bed routine: here.

Flykid's challenge: here (hopefully continually renewing itself).

Daily reminders (which should also update themselves automatically)
here.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks for the last links sc :) can't believe September is over!

Just realised there is finance stuff that really needs sorting, must see if I can charge the old laptop enough to get onto it and find the info Confused

So happy that DH is getting a cab to dancing with DD today in order to take all the charity shop donations. 8 massive bags (not just the books, there were some other bits). Worth the expense as there is virtually no space in the kitchen (can't even get to the tumble dryer safely) and waiting for it to be collected or asking a friend would just take longer.

Not really sure what else I will manage today.

Afreshstartplease · 30/09/2017 10:44

Hi all i am here alive but super tired

Will make more effort in october

Ta da

Dryer on
Washer on
Pets cleaned
Bin empty
Recycling out

Cagliostro · 30/09/2017 16:15

Soooo unmotivated today. So unmotivated that anyone waving a pointy stick in my direction will sincerely regret it Wink Blush. Want a nap but can't do that safely when the Caglets are playing out. Have just had a few snacks rather than lunch since I had such a late breakfast so my test times are messed up (they won't care as it's only 1 hour post meal that is required but still). Don't want to cook, no idea what to do for the Caglets tonight. Have spent some money on baby essentials online, plus preordered some DVD box sets to get me through night feeds. And got stressy at Amazon because they refused to cancel my order half an hour after I made it because it was already 'preparing for despatch' (I call bullshit).

I am now going to have a nice cup of tea except that it isn't nice because it's raspberry leaf tea which is absolutely vile. Angry

Sandycarrots · 30/09/2017 17:17

Think you have continually made huge efforts throughout September Afreshstart don't know how you do it!

Cag no pointy sticks here! Go steady!

Just taking five mins before evening shift (guests).

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/09/2017 20:03

Hello all, was at work today so not much flying done, just sorting out laundry then intending to collapse as also working tomorrow. Seemed like a good idea at the time!

CotswoldStrife · 30/09/2017 21:02

Many thanks for Sandycarrots for a fabulous September thread, your efforts are much appreciated my dear!

New thread for October (where is the year going?!) is now up

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/housekeeping/3047922-October-House-of-Order-Fledglings-flying-through-October-2017

See you there tomorrow, thanks again Sandycarrots

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/09/2017 21:35

Thank you so much SC for a lovely September thread Smile. House of order sounds very promising, thanks Cotswold Smile.

Sandycarrots · 30/09/2017 23:56

Waves to everyone!

Thanks for thanks Smile! It was my pleasure! And thanks for setting up new thread Cotswold!

Agree September seems to have sped past. At the same time - wierdly - it seems quite a long time since I was unpacking our suitcases after the holidays. At least I am vaguely back in a proper routine now.

First day of state visit (guests) seems to have gone OK thanks to lots of help from my lovely sil (which was required as dh still tired from travels). Dragging my stumps off to bed now before round two starts far too early tomorrow.

G'night all!
