Fledglings Fly back to school & work, September 2017, decluttering along the way ...

Sandycarrots · 31/08/2017 17:17

Hello, it's time to brush the sand off our feet, empty out the suitcases, sharpen our pencils, polish our lace-up shoes, and get stuck in to the September 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself (cheesy but there is merit to it). The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts of effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

More info available here, here and here.

Your choice whether or not you sign up to the Flylady e-mails, but we advise caution as there are lots of them!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Nah you were following the bread crumb trail we use to lure in new victims sorry members to the thread.

Ds is amusing me this morning. But i am getting coffee in bed.

As for the Jam, there should be some left but the vultures have been up for a couple of hours so no guarentees

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/09/2017 18:58

Hello all,

Had nice day out with friends and back home now, both girls in PJs and tea eaten so just getting on with the dishwasher etc while DH watches some telly with DDs.

To do:
Calendar check
Tidy up from dinner
Before bed routine
Put away laundry, it is everywhere!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/09/2017 18:58

Welcome intimeandspace Smile.

intimeandspace · 17/09/2017 20:35

Cake(there was no bread emoticon)
Thanks for welcome.
Sink is ok
Clothes are out for tomorrow
School bags and kit at the door ( is that a "launching pad" in the trade? :-)

Newchick · 17/09/2017 20:57

Church this morning and run this afternoon so no time for housework ;)

Did get a couple of loads of laundry through the system and spent 15 mins dusting and hoovering master bedroom. Hardly any dust had had a chance to build up!!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 17/09/2017 21:00

I have finally managed to sit down and sort my new recipe folder pretties out. Much needed as my current recipe book is shedding pages at an alarming rate and I would much like to not lose any much loved recipes. Tomorrow I will upset the printer and do the printing of it. Will get folder Tuesday when I am in town and then it will be a case of transferring recipes as and when I have motivation/have time

And that is the closest I have been to flying today Blush

Afreshstartplease · 18/09/2017 05:16

I have been up since 3 am. THREE AM! Angry

Sandycarrots · 18/09/2017 05:41

Good morning everyone! I'm terribly sorry to be so late with the links; had a very full on weekend and ran out of time yesterday. I could tell you some tales but too outing sadly!! Grin

Cag thank you so much for doing links on Saturday night Flowers Hope you enjoyed farm party and that you were able to find a seat at yesterday's running event!

Afreshstart oh no, that sounds like torture Brew

A very warm welcome to Intimeandspace! The launch pad is here. Through it we can access the main building blocks of the Flylady system such as the current zones,
daily missions etc (although the baby steps aren't included for some unknown reasons: website a bit clunky imho). Any further questions, don't hesitate to ask! Ooh, and I'll follow cake crumbs anywhere you like Wink [SC sets off with torch pointing at ground].

Einstein jam sounds delicious! I am a little jealous of your vultures!
Care to share particular flavour?

Congrats on a very full-on Sunday list Zoo. Hope you were able to catch up on sleep last night.

Newchick well done re: consistent boudoir decluttering

Mermaids top marks for garden work (need to do the same here - its looking very overgrown and untidy)

Mahoosive wing flaps to Newchick Toostressy Honu Cotswold Foxes and to everyone else!

The summary for Monday is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 18 for Monday 18th is here. Check out Flylady's eleven commandments. Must work harder at no.4!!

We are in Zone 4: The Master Bedroom, Bath, Closet (September 17-23) this week here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 4 (if you are at that stage) is here.

Monday's mission is here. Spend 15 mins getting rid of anything that does not belong in your bedroom. (Bit of a challenging one for me!)

The daily focus for Monday is the dreaded home bleugh. Spend ten minutes (or so Flylady says) on each of seven essential tasks.

The monthly habit for September is the before-bed routine: here.

Flykid's challenge: here (hopefully continually renewing itself).

Daily reminders (which should also update themselves automatically) here.

Have a productive start to the week everyone!

Morning. I am not a happy Cag today! The weekend was just knackering despite seating being available. I nearly cried because of being so worn out yesterday. Apparently it's normal to be all brain foggy and fatigued when you suddenly cut right back on carbs, but it was bad timing due to being so busy, not to mention already having a condition that makes me tired etc AND, y'know, hormones 😱😳 can't even relax today as I have the diabetologist later and it's likely to hugely overrun apparently (busy clinic plus I'm the last appt because they added me as an urgent case due to impending due date). Nobody to look after Caglets so they will be really bored poor things.

Need to somehow find the energy to tidy living room as well, and order the shopping and preferably clean the fridge before it arrives tomorrow.

Intime welcome :)

Sandycarrots · 18/09/2017 09:34

That sounds tough Cag try and take it as steady as you can. Could you rest this morning and leave the tidying? Or delegate it? Going through carb withdrawal when heavily pregnant is tough enough without your condition to contend with as well Flowers

I'm feeling v tired this morning - very achy too - but the fridge is empty and the washing piles are growing (wm engineer not coming until wed). Need to get to shops and laundrette.

Sandycarrots · 18/09/2017 11:35

Sounds ridiculous to say it with only one child, but my quality of sleep has never been the same since having dd, esp when dh is travelling and I am in sole control - you always have half an ear out somehow - for illness, burglars, fire etc. Not helped by the fact that dd (until v recently) was a very "active" sleeper who regularly fell out of bed - I'm always waiting for the thump!

OP posts:
Sandycarrots · 18/09/2017 11:39

Thanks for Brew Afreshstart. Hats off to you and Foxes for your lists; despite severe sleep deprivation.

So farvtoday, I have stumped along to shop and back. That is all.

OP posts:
YesEinsteinsMumDid · 18/09/2017 12:22

So last night me was a genius. I was so tired I could cry. So this morning after sending ds on his way I went back to sleep. It was needed. But now I am up I was trying to figure out what to do because tbh I just want to leave the house. BUT rereading the thread reminded me I am supposed to print pretty things for getting organised and that is always a nice gentle activity. On the tired front I am still stupid tired but just fractionally less so.
I might have to leave the house later and go to the beach for some thinking or something. Without ds as it his constant stimming that is driving me batty and wearing me out.

Cagliostro · 18/09/2017 13:16

I hear you on the stimming I have started quietly videoing DS for the paediatrician (she is investigating other dx and we aren't entirely sure whether DS' extreme behaviour is ASD or possibly ADHD related)

Sorry so many are knackered today!

My sugars were a bit too low earlier and I have still felt wobbly and achy and cold all day. DH did a lot of tidying in the living room, I put a wash on or rather started it then had to sit on the kitchen floor halfway (DD finished it though). We ordered the shopping as a joint effort (DH sorted food for himself and Caglets and I then added lots of high fat/protein goodies. Not particularly got a meal plan though. I'm finding it quite difficult to adjust to this although the food is actually really nice and I am not craving stuff like pasta as much as I thought (yet).

May well get a cab to hospital later as I don't know if I can manage two buses

foxessocks · 18/09/2017 14:04

cag definitely get a cab if you can - you need to take it easy.

Ta ads
Food shopping and I remembered a few random things we needed like a new cup for ds and blu tac so dd can stick her paw patrol poster up! I'll be in her good books as I got her squeezy yogurts too (what is it with children and the love of a squeezy yoghurt?!)
Did part of the home bleugh got a few bits left to do
Daily routine finished

To do
Finish dusting
Mop floors
Empty upstairs bins
Change bed sheets
Bedroom declutter / mission

foxessocks · 18/09/2017 14:06

And so true about sleep...but I hope it does improve a little !

Afreshstartplease · 18/09/2017 14:10

It irritates me how dp does not understand sleep deprivation back log

Ds slept through twice last week, on the third day i was tired and he could not get his head around why. Ive had literally about 5 full nights sleep in three months!

foxessocks · 18/09/2017 16:09

afresh we had that conversation recently dh said something about me having had a lie in when he'd had to get up early (my lie in was until about 7 and dh had left at 6) I pointed out that the last full night's sleep I had was Christmas day!! Thankfully ds has got better the last week but i totally understand the sleep deprivation back log thing!!

foxessocks · 18/09/2017 16:38

Ta das
Finished home bleugh
Decluttered pyjama / underwear / sock drawer (got rid of all my maternity bras yesss! Really need to go shopping now though)
Did today mission

Dh cooking dinner tonight as I got steaks which he cooks much better than me so that's a result Grin the kids will have something from the freezer.

Does anyone with preschool age children know how much assistance a preschool teacher would give a 3.5 yo in wiping after going to the toilet? Dd has come home for the second time with a sore bum Sad its upsetting her but she said her teacher wiped for her but I'm not sure that they did. Not sure whether to bring it up - I understand they have a lot to do so don't want to come across as moaning or being precious!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/09/2017 17:02

Hello all, at gymnastics with DDs. Very disappointed in how little I got done with my child free day. Anyone else find this? Have nearly tidied airing cupboard though which was a disaster zone.

foxes, I am on a preschool committee- we would want that being brought up. Assuming the staff are nice I would just speak to them. See what their policy is.

IME (with both DDs) they are encouraged to do it themselves though which may be why she comes back sore. I have had to put cream on both my DDs when they got sore from not wiping properly. There is a certain amount of preparing for school where they will likely be going to the toilet independently. Have had to speak to various settings about both my DDs needing help in the toilet and it has always been helpful to speak to the staff - they have always been great. As long as you are understanding of the fact they are busy you won't sound precious Flowers.

How's the blood testing going Cag?

Cagliostro · 18/09/2017 17:08

Thank you stressy the testing is going much better now, am more reliably getting blood out first time now. Numbers pretty good overall. Still in waiting room have been here an hour so far! Caglets peacefully drawing now after 15 mins kindle time each (with headphones obviously :o).
