Fledglings are raucous in August - the Flylady thread

Thanks to paxillin for our August thread title Smile.

Hello all and welcome to the August Flylady thread. We are a friendly bunch who try to roughly follow the Flylady system. How strictly you follow it is of course up to you! Every day the thread leader posts information about which zone of the house we are in and the missions for the week.

Newbies are always welcome. All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There is enough information on this thread to start getting on with things but you can also trawl through the (confusing at times) website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I'm on holiday this week with intermittent internet connection so will not be on much but will keep an eye on the thread and hopefully everyone else will feel free to jump in!

With it being summer holidays it may be pretty quiet on here but missions etc will be here for those who want them.

Sorry, that was the summary for SUNDAY!

Morning

Baby ds woke three times last night. And I had a nightmare. Sad feeling zombie like now.

Did about 5/6 loads of laundry yesterday! Helped dd tidy her room. Kept on top of keeping kitchen semi decent

Ordered a chunk of school uniform too. I may have ordered dd a lot of school clothes. First girl to go to school plus much more choice in school clothes! She has a summer dress, a skirt, a skort, two different pinafores and a pair of trousers! Plus four different kinds of polo shirt / blouse. Only one cardigan so far, need to buy a school logoed one and another plain one but want this to be different to the first plain one.... think I have issues. Also need shoes and pe pumps.

Sorry about the bad night :(

Need to get up soon and go to a friend's for a child free day, lunch etc.

Should really sort laundry before I go! MEH

foxessocks · 13/08/2017 11:14

afresh sympathies, we had a bad night here too, ds was up for 2 hours crying, think he didn't feel well. Then he was up at 6.

Ta das
Finished my work for the weekend
Dh cleaned the car
Daily routine
Dinner in the slow cooker (actually tomorrow's dinner as we're out later and I forgot doh)
Painted my toenails

The house is really in need of some deep cleaning...but getting the energy to do it is another matter Confused. I really want to know how people have beautiful homes that are perfectly clean all the time. I just can't seem to keep it up!

Afreshstartplease · 13/08/2017 12:53

I can't keep up either foxes Been out for some bits of shopping, get home to make lunch and discover no clean cutlery or mugs. Oops.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/08/2017 15:02

Hello, hope you are all ok. I can definitely sympathise with not getting anything done. I am fine at the moment because we are at my parents so I have help but normally I very much feel like I am chasing my tail the whole time. foxes, I would also like to know how anyone has beautiful homes with young DC around. DD2 is 4 now so am hoping things will slowly improve in that respect Confused. Cag, hope you had a lovely child free day.

Afresh, I only have girls but I do find it useful to have a variety of school uniform as it allows them to have lots of different style options Grin.

Big wing flaps to all. Off to bed with some sewing (gymnastics badge, not fun sewing). I hate sewing! Rock and roll.

Morning everyone. Another bad night with ds, he was up twice and slept in our bed for a few hours too which is not particularly comfortable! Then he was up for the day at 5.45 Confused. Luckily my dh has a later start today so he took him downstairs for an hour for me and has just brought him back to me but with a coffee as well so I'm feeling a bit more cheerful!

Hopefully I'll get some more flying done this week as all I managed to do kitchen wise was clean out the fridge. Going to have a quick read through the missions now.

Brew for you all!

Afreshstartplease · 14/08/2017 07:30

Morning all

Ds had to be resettled three times last night but did manage to keep him in his cot so that's good. Was up for the day at 5am.

Definitely much more options uniform wise for girls. I managed to order all the logoed stuff last night so now it's just shoes, pe pumps and water bottles we need (unless I have forgotten something)

Morning everyone Brew. Mumsnet ate my earlier post Angry. Last day here at my parents so trying to pack in a few activities. Also an unscheduled trip to garage for rattly car Hmm.

Cagliostro · 14/08/2017 09:00

Morning all, sorry about the early starts!

DD was asleep by 10.15 last night which is quite good for her lately. I feel quite refreshed after an earlier night :o and having had a lovely day with friends too, we played cards against humanity which led to many horrified gasps giggles.

Stressy what do you sew the badges onto? I have gym and trampolining ones just lying around and could never figure out what to do with them.

Cagliostro · 14/08/2017 09:01

Need a panic tidy shortly as got specialist HVs coming to talk about autism stuff. It's not tooooo bad in here - cluttered but not hazardously so 😂😂😂

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 14/08/2017 10:41

Ds goes away, I am still trying to get his laundry from him so it can be washed and dried for packing Hmm
I suspect there is going to be angry cleaning later

Cagliostro · 14/08/2017 12:07

Big news here - health visitor is going to ask the paediatrician to prescribe melatonin for DD!!!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 14/08/2017 12:44

Blooming heck that is big news. Just remember it is not the be all answer, and takes a while to work but fingers crossed that it helps your dd (and thus you)!!!!!!! GrinGrinFlowersGrin

Cagliostro · 14/08/2017 12:49

Thank you! I just think it has to be worth a try really. HV was happy that we have tried everything ourselves (we really really have!) so it's the next step. Not expecting miracles but hell if it even helps a tiny bit it'll be more than worth it. She is so miserable about her sleep struggles, people tend to assume she just doesn't want to go to bed, that she's deliberately being controlling, but it's so so hard for her when her anxiety is through the roof and her brain won't switch off. Not sure if the doc will say yes straight away or want to see us again first (she is supposed to be seeing us again anyway, as she wanted to investigate comorbid diagnoses like dyspraxia for DS... we shall see!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 14/08/2017 13:14

We had to be seen by the pead before ds got it the first time, but he was under the pead. 2nd time he got it the GP prescribed it and these days he gets it from the doc as he is no longer under the pead.

Just remember even if she has the meds, good sleep hygiene is needed. If ds doesn't want to sleep he won't even if he has had the meds. He has already be warned when he gets back he will be back on the sleep meds complete with early alarm and me taking the wire for the tv... Wink he needs to get back into school day routine. which means I need to get back into school day routine Blush

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/08/2017 15:08

Oh wow that is big news Cag. Hope if you do end up doing angry cleaning it is productive Einstein.

Re. gymnastics badges, they have leotards (DD1 wears hers with shorts and DD2 often has leggings) and I sew the badges on to them. They mainly have leotards for that reason! Also swim badges get sewn onto swimming suits

OP posts:
YesEinsteinsMumDid · 14/08/2017 15:37

I am making a memory blanket out of ds' badges. Each type of badge (swimming/etc etc) get their own square. I currently have a pile of squares. I really need to figure out what I image the final project to look like.

Angry cleaning is slow when it involves getting ds' room. I am literally counting down until we leave. Ds is always awkward on transfer days

mermaidsandunicorns · 14/08/2017 17:22

Oh Cag that's fab news we are still trying to get it!

Mental day here
Plumbers turned up at 9 to fix shower. They took an hours break at 10.15 and then another hours lunch break at 12.30 which ticked me off a bit as I had family coming round. The beautiful irony was that a can of expanding foam exploded on top of his van so it looked like it had been snowed on.

I didn't laugh honest!

mermaidsandunicorns · 14/08/2017 19:16

It wasn't me, honest. The plumber must have pierced it by accident when he was cutting the flipping glittery aqua board
