Fledglings are raucous in August - the Flylady thread

Thanks to paxillin for our August thread title Smile.

Hello all and welcome to the August Flylady thread. We are a friendly bunch who try to roughly follow the Flylady system. How strictly you follow it is of course up to you! Every day the thread leader posts information about which zone of the house we are in and the missions for the week.

Newbies are always welcome. All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There is enough information on this thread to start getting on with things but you can also trawl through the (confusing at times) website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I'm on holiday this week with intermittent internet connection so will not be on much but will keep an eye on the thread and hopefully everyone else will feel free to jump in!

With it being summer holidays it may be pretty quiet on here but missions etc will be here for those who want them.

AztecHero · 11/08/2017 10:04

I fucking love christmas too.

No achievements here yet, except that DH and I may have agreed on the colour of paint we will be using for the house. (Slipper satin by farrow and ball....we plan to do the undercoats in dulux and the top coat in F&B)

The house has not been painted since [faints] 1995. (how embarrassing).

However I have managed to get DH to agree that his beloved old sofas (Inherited from his mother and covered in a 70s print ) can be covered with a pale grey colour and oyster grey and silver cushions).

Actually....i have achieved something this morning!!!!!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 11/08/2017 11:00

Carefull with mixing paint brands Aztec it can result in peeling/flaking paint. But it sounds like it is going to be lovely when you are finish.

Very slow start just about waking up and getting caffinated. Over did it a bit yesterday and had very sore muscles yesterday and had drunk too much coffee

Hello all, have arrived at my parents and managed lovely childfree meal out with a friend. Will pop links on soon and be back for personals. Suspect kids will still be up when I get home so not sure how long bedtime will take!

Woohoo girls are in bed. Have managed to have mini argument with my dad within 1 minute of walking in the door - aaaagggh the joys of spending time with my parents. Taken myself off for early night so going to go through my suitcase in my room.

zoo, I love hearing all your menus Smile. Einstein, I've learnt something new today - didn't know that about mixing paint brands. Aztec, I love that slipper satin colour Smile. Afresh, we had thought self catering would be cheaper this year but unfortunately our cottage was very well equipped with smoke alarms (which of course is a very good thing) to the point where any cooking set them off so ended up eating out a lot.

Big wing flaps to all, links next.

Here is the daily summary for Saturday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

Baby-step no 12 - delete the digital clutter of Flylady emails from your inbox. Or just don't sign up for them in the first place and look at the Flylady website instead.

It's the weekend, so no need to do missions. However, if you want to...

We are in Zone 2 this week: the kitchen

Spend 15 mins, or whatever you can manage, decluttering in Zone 2.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 2 is here

Happy flying everyone.

DD and I were in a garden centre today and they were putting Christmas stock out! It did focus my mind a bit.

Sadly, I think I had my caffiene boost too late to be of any use today. Lovely day out with DD though. She is already planning a relaxed weekend! The school holidays are almost half over for us already and it is going too fast for me!

I think I'm going to have to get back to list making, I'm forgetting far too much stuff or just not doing it properly Blush

AztecHero · 12/08/2017 06:30

Morning all.

I did not know that either about mixing paint brands! (We are not that accustomed to painting.....the house HAS been painted, but the colours have not changed since 1995 IYSWIM).

I dropped out of flylady stuff yesterday - just a strained and difficult sort of day so hope to be back in full flap today. :)

School holidays are going too fast for me too, Cotswold. I am lucky to be WAH until wednesday, but then can take A/l from the 23rd.Cannot wait.

Hope everyone has a great day!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 12/08/2017 06:59

It can be fine but we have had problems where the paint flaked off within a month. Having spent hours doing the painting there were tears and strong drinks before the whole lot was sanded back to bare wood and started from scratch.
Gloss type paints can be the worse for it. Emulsions can be fine but sometimes aren't. It depends on the brands and it is where the tester pots can be really useful for checking. And tbh I would recommend it if you are mixing brands.
Also watch out for white gloss paint which now turns yellow because apparently they had to remove the ingredient that keeps it white over time because it turned out to be toxic. Hmm

Can you tell apart from regular whining on my part that I have been living in building and DIY hell for too long? Blush

Weirdly been up since before 5am and haven't been able to get back to sleep. No motivation to move though Hmm

AztecHero · 12/08/2017 07:09

All great info thanks Einstein. :) We will definitely test first with testers....I am not sure what sort of paint we are doing- (matte /gloss etc). I nearly fainted when DH agreed to it at all that I did not enquire too deeply!

Afreshstartplease · 12/08/2017 08:22

Well last night ds slept right through! He's only done this about three times since we moved so pretty amazing!

However. Dd had a nightmare so I was still woken up Sad honestly it's like they are tag teaming me.

Ta Da

Washer on
Dryer on

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 12/08/2017 08:28

Children are evil creatures like that Fresh whether they mean to or not it is just how it seems :(
Ds did not sleep through the night. I have no idea what time he went to bed as he tucked me in and I went to bed. But he is nearly 13 so it is easier. Although he is going to have the biggest shock ever when school starts back and he has to be out of bed before 8am (yep I know it is stupidly civilised compared to a lot of schedules).

Finally caffinated enough to consider moving. So much that needs to be done but I think I am going to start by making bread. It is one of the few ways I can convince ds to eat a proper amount at meal times and not constantly snack on crap (aka sugary nutritionally empty food) Going to see if I can get him into clothes and out the house for some exercise today too, but that is weather dependant as we are not going into the hills if the weather is bad, that is where danger and madness lie.

Afreshstartplease · 12/08/2017 08:39

13! Poor you Sad

Ds is almost 10 months and dd is 4, hopefully they'll grow out of this. My older two were/are brilliant sleepers.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 12/08/2017 08:46

He has a sleep disorder he will never sleep through the night. It is little problems now he is older, it was a fucking nightmare when he was little. These days he is well trained so I can mostly get the sleep that I need. But you have my full sympathy on lack of sleep. it is horrendous. Flowers

Afreshstartplease · 12/08/2017 08:51

Yes. Lack of sleep certainly kicks any broody feelings out of the window!

It's good your ds is well trained! Broken sleep must make life difficult for him though

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 12/08/2017 10:31

He is nearly 13, if you speak to him he would tell you that broken sleep is not making his life difficult but I am with all of the stupid rules WinkGrin
Tv aerial cable and the scart lead will be heading into my room as of an evening... I wish he would just do as he is asked because i think he should be able to have access to all the things I am having to take away and I HATE it. only 1 1/2hrs late for leaving the house because he didn't want to Angry

Cagliostro · 12/08/2017 11:43

I am so unmotivated today!!!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/08/2017 13:29

Einstein Flowers. Yes, very annoying when they tag team sleep Afresh Brew.

Cag -------> (only gently as you are pregnant!).

Aztec and Cotswold, I have to admit I am more of a counting down the holidays parent rather than thinking they are going too fast but glad you are both enjoying them Grin.

Ta da:
Trip into town with DDs and my parents. Managed to come out with only one bit of truly pointless clutter (cheap toy chosen by DD1) and actually got a PE bag (needed) for DD2 plus they got some books which was kind of my mum and dad and not truly clutter.

To do:-
Stop hiding upstairs!
Lunch
Take DDs swimming. Ugh.
Avoid temptation to revert to grumpy teenager while at my parents' house.
Try to retain some semblance of discipline over the children while we are here

Ideally:-
Amazon order
Work emails
Thank you cards for nursery for DD2

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/08/2017 13:32

Also to do (optimistic):-
Some sewing

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 12/08/2017 15:06

Oh no flowers needed stressy Ds took great delight in telling me I was asleep by about 9:30pm last night Shock not sure i believe him I could have sworn it was gone 10pm but it is possible

to do
write to do list.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/08/2017 17:17

Definitely no flowers then, you were in bed earlier than me!
