Fledglings are raucous in August - the Flylady thread

Thanks to paxillin for our August thread title Smile.

Hello all and welcome to the August Flylady thread. We are a friendly bunch who try to roughly follow the Flylady system. How strictly you follow it is of course up to you! Every day the thread leader posts information about which zone of the house we are in and the missions for the week.

Newbies are always welcome. All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There is enough information on this thread to start getting on with things but you can also trawl through the (confusing at times) website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I'm on holiday this week with intermittent internet connection so will not be on much but will keep an eye on the thread and hopefully everyone else will feel free to jump in!

With it being summer holidays it may be pretty quiet on here but missions etc will be here for those who want them.

Morning everyone,
Welcome mellington

Well my night wasn't great either, youngest ds was awake most of the night in pain and his painkillers weren't touching it. So I had to keep massaging his joints.

Ta da
Dishwasher emptied
Loaded with breakfast dishes
Meal plan done for next week
Dressed

To do
Online food shop
Online monthly meat order
Change all bedding
Vacuum bedrooms
Dust bedrooms
Chop firewood
Hope you all have a great day Smile

Cagliostro · 25/08/2017 09:19

Welcome mellington! Brew

Thanks all re Cagletini :o DD (I suppose she is DD1 now! Shock) is especially excited.

Thanks re: Latin ginger that's going on the wishlist! :) DD has a sub for Aquila magazine and the Harry Potter issue has stuff on the origin of some of the names so it'd be great to build on that. I have the first book in French although nowhere near fluent enough to read it yet. I want to brush up on my French really.

Sorry about all the non sleeping babies. Shall we just set up some kind of IV caffeine in the haughty corner?

Re Lego I am tempted to separate big and small pieces too, not sure it'd last though!

Sorted all laundry today, finally. Lots of food in as Tesco arrived last night. Got some cooked sausages left over so might try some kind of tomato casserole which the Caglets probably won't eat. Sigh.

Cagliostro · 25/08/2017 09:23

Meant to say big well done to your DS mum for his weight gain. Such a lot for a boy to deal with. ME is shit enough as an adult but I can't imagine facing it as a child or teen. Thanks

Oncewaswho · 25/08/2017 09:36

I really need to join in again. I haven't posted for a while, and not under this name but I really need to get back on track before the DCs go back to school. So, I'm going to read through and catch up ready to get back on top of the chores.

Mumofazoo · 25/08/2017 09:55

Thank you cag Smile

Zoolets want tuna.tomato and cucumber rolls for lunch.have no cucumber or tomatoes left...and fruit bowls empty(again)i spotted 2 slices bread left.think i may need go shopping😞
Its going to be quieter but ih so much cheaper a week on tuesday when they back at school(cant decide whether to cheer or rock in corner sobbing as pack 2 of unaccompanied to seoarate senior schools(ds first time walk by self))

Talk them getting older i am abiut go drag dd2 up from her festering pit....she was at sleepover night before.i try wake her before went shoe shoppping(luckily a george shop 20mins away on foot)
She grunt n roll over 4x.me thinks we need start instigating early bedtimes to adjust her to get enough sleep and still ve able get up for school(dons hard hat as it will mean a war zone situation)

Cagliostro · 25/08/2017 13:09

Yep we are trying to get back to some kind of routine with waking up too. Thankfully Caglets both woke naturally by 8 this morning and tomorrow will be an early start anyway (DH taking them to science museum). I really need to get better at starting the bedtime routine earlier anyway - it just seems so pointless when DD doesn't bloody sleep anyway but with any luck the melatonin will help and then it won't be pointless anymore?!

I've done nothing since my staggering laundry achievement. Need to get going shortly and collect DD's prescription from the hospital and get a few picnic bits from town, might meet a friend so the kids can hang out while we get errands done.

Welcome back once or should we call you who (trying to work out if your new name is a clue but no need to say if you'd rather not!)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 25/08/2017 13:27

Welcome back once Smile.

Ta da:-
Laundry
15 mins decluttering in DD1's room - it looks loads better now. Still need to do under the bed again but that will have to wait.
Art and craft type stuff.

We've had the morning at home as we now have swimming lessons and a little leaving party for DD2 at nursery tonight.

To do:-
Lunch
Get swim stuff ready
Try to encourage DD2 into suitable outfit
More art stuff

Hope everyone without sleep is still functioning okay and getting lots of either assistance or caffeine!!! Grin

Cag I've been pondering Aquino but we're already getting 3 mags and not sure about adding another. I'll probably give in and get it, as the dcs love the magazines. The Week Jr is by far the most popular one as it comes every Friday and my 11yo reads it cover to cover the moment it comes in the door. I also get the BBC History magazine, which 11yo swipes and browses sometimes too.

The Doodlemaths was upgraded through PopArt today, so the dcs spent quite a bit of time playing maths games. We've gone to the park and the shops, tidied up the kitchen, done a couple loads of laundry, done physical therapy exercises, worked on phonics, handwriting, word puzzles and word searches and reading. Dinner tonight is a lazy "toss in the oven" thing, thank goodness! Grin

Cagliostro · 25/08/2017 15:06

Aquila is brilliant but expensive! It was a present from a generous "auntie". I was really sad that Discovery Box has stopped accepting clubcard vouchers as that was brilliant. Did you manage to get a deal on the week jr? That's the one I'm considering next as I want DD to be more aware of what's going on but in a 'safer' way (due to her anxiety watching BBC news is not generally an option)

I've booked DS' Go Ape thing. Now on bus to town and forgot one of the things I needed to ask the hospital about but hopefully I can get by without it. It's not related to the prescription thankfully. I have been organised though in that the Caglets have empty backpacks with shopping bags in so they can carry the few picnic bits we need home.

Feeling stressed out as the mum of the bully has tagged me in something acting all nice. After getting in a massive huff and defriending me etc a couple of months ago. Very weird and unsettling just uggggh leave me alone now! Makes me feel like a teenager full of angst!

GingerIvy · 25/08/2017 15:15

Cag I don't think we got any particular deal for The Week Jr - just ordered it. The dcs love it. Weird about the bully's mum tagging you.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 25/08/2017 15:20

Don't engage Cag Flowers.

mermaidsandunicorns · 25/08/2017 17:44

I GOT THE JOB!!

So happy cannot explain how happy I am

Cagliostro · 25/08/2017 18:12

YAY MERMAIDS!!! ⭐️💐 Congratulations, when do you start? :)

Phew managed to hand in prescription (unsurprisingly they don't keep melatonin in stock but should be ready tomorrow) AND got DD's blood test form which was missing. So they can now both get tests done - paediatrician asked for genetic testing when they got their diagnosis. Need to sort out getting the 'magic cream' and organise a little treat for after as they are really scared, having not had any blood tests since they were 2 (and thus blissfully unaware).

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/08/2017 18:48

congrat mermaid*
cag our hospital only place can get kids bloods done.super scared they get the cream to use an hoyr before hand.either way its a numbing spray once sat in the room and a person with distracting book in way oofwhats happening .as they do ut all day every day they are super quick at it too making the wait the only stressful bit really(and kids wait separately to adults in a playroom with disney dvds on loop)both lil zoo and dd2 have been fine.ds had tests as little boy(anemia) and that was before the current set up and it traumatised him as it was adults who had no idea how to handle kids.he was very traumatized by it n terrified ever have do it again despite be with us when girls had theirtheirsglad times have changed(for the better)

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/08/2017 18:50

(Slumps in naughty corner.nasty caee cba)

mermaidsandunicorns · 25/08/2017 19:23

I have to give two weeks notice so start on 11th
Mon to fri
9-5
Can't wait however I do now have to learn the intimate details of gas, oil and boilers

Mumofazoo · 25/08/2017 19:56

Congratulations mermaids. Star Star
Today has been a pretty good day,
Ta da
Meat order placed
Online food shop done
Medications collected from chemist
All bedrooms done and dusted
All fresh bedding on
Stairs vacuumed
Had appointment with my gp
Next weeks meal plan
Sorted finances in Filofax
Walked dogs
Chopped wood
Loaded dishwasher

Glad I've got everything done as now it's the weekend and only the basics and baking get done. I'm prepared to feel a bit weird the next week or so as well, as my gp has upped my dose of anxiety meds. A dosage increase usually leaves me feeling a bit stranger than usual.
Hope you all have an awesome weekend Smile

GingerIvy · 25/08/2017 20:38

mermaids Congratulations!!!

mermaidsandunicorns · 25/08/2017 21:03

Thankyou everyone Grin

On a cleaning note I've just cleaned my floors with a magic eraser sponge
My god they clean well
The blackness of the bucket of water was shameful

Oncewaswho · 25/08/2017 21:24

Cag - yes, the clue is in the name, whoknows who I was before . We tried both Aquila and The Week junior with no great interest from the DCs (to my frustration). What has helped is setting the homepage of our laptop to BBC Newsround so they get an age appropriate exposure to news and current affairs whenever they use it for the internet.

Mermaids - congratulations on the job. Magic Eraser blocks are just a miracle aren't they? I can't seem to get them anywhere at home anymore but snapped one up on holiday last week .

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 25/08/2017 21:42

Hello all, not caught up on thread properly but a proper welcome back to you then once Grin. Massive congratulations mermaids.

We were very late back from the nursery thing and I have both kids still up and DH out at work. Have put them in front of the telly for a programme before bed while I he the dishwasher on. Won't manage much tonight but will try to do at least a semblance of my evening routine.

Will be on before bed with quick personals and links. Big wing flaps to all Smile.
