Fledglings are raucous in August - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/07/2017 18:04

Thanks to paxillin for our August thread title Smile.

Hello all and welcome to the August Flylady thread. We are a friendly bunch who try to roughly follow the Flylady system. How strictly you follow it is of course up to you! Every day the thread leader posts information about which zone of the house we are in and the missions for the week.

Newbies are always welcome. All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There is enough information on this thread to start getting on with things but you can also trawl through the (confusing at times) website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I'm on holiday this week with intermittent internet connection so will not be on much but will keep an eye on the thread and hopefully everyone else will feel free to jump in!

With it being summer holidays it may be pretty quiet on here but missions etc will be here for those who want them.

I like the sound of this magic eraser...managed to find a pack of flash ones in sainsburys so might have to get some! My current floor mopping solution is just hot soapy water and an old fashioned mop so would be good to try something fancy! Also Grin

Ds had another bad night and dd did too as she's poorly , luckily dh able to help more as he's off today but now we're both tired and grumpy. I've got to do some work this morning so flying will take a back seat but dh will be able to do something hopefully although the children are pretty demanding at the moment!

CotswoldStrife · 26/08/2017 17:38

Hi all, we are back from our break. Not a good idea to plan a long journey home on a Bank Holiday Friday but we made it slowly

Bit of a mixed time away, we made the best of it though and have had a chilled day today to get over it - only away a couple of nights but packed so much in it felt a lot longer!

To-do list growing by the second, have restarted the laundry mountain although the basket is so full I can barely shut the lid. Need to clear out a lot of clothes, keep part-sorting them and then I lose track and have to redo them. Did get rid of some but many more bags to go!

gardeningirl · 26/08/2017 18:19

Hi all
Mermaids brilliant news re jobSmile
Having had boiler problems this week (ours usually breaks down twice yearly, no free cash for a new one) I am very respectful of anyone who knows anything about that type of thing!
Cag huge congrats on expecting baby girlSmile
once loving the setting newsround as the kids tablet homepage! Going to steal that idea, have a 10 year old that I really want to be a bit more up on what's going on the world, but not too up close - remember trying to talk to him about the London Bridge attack as we had walked across it and eaten at Borough market on a trip to London the day before the attack. Want him to know but not be cowed by the weight of the terrible stuff in the news.
Horrid end to week here - can't really say why as might out myself in real life. Been in a blur over last few days. Cried on a couple of good friends at work...very unlike meConfusedBlush Not been able to do any flying but have weirdly found the fly lady emails (that I signed up to despite toostressy warning of their large number!) comfortingHmmGrin
Going to go back to starting with the swish and swipe and sink thing tomorrow - looking forward to getting back to normal babysteps and less badstuff.

Cagliostro · 26/08/2017 18:23

Garden sorry you've had a rough time Thanks

Welcome back cotswold!

I've had a restful day, got a few more pregnancy/baby related bits, picked up DD's meds to try tonight 😱

Cagliostro · 26/08/2017 18:23

Also yesterday I chased up some editing work so hopefully that'll come through in the next few weeks

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 26/08/2017 19:41

Hello all, hope you are all ok.

zoo, yes the need for bread and milk is constant isn't it?! foxes, hope your DD feels better soon. Ginger, I love crumble! Is there any left Grin? Lovely to have you back Cotswold. Cag, good luck with medication tonight. garden Flowers, sorry things are shit but glad the Flylady system and emails have helped in some way.

DDs watching a film and I have told them I will be in with popcorn and to paint their nails so will do links then get pampering!

Big wing flaps to all.

Also since lots of you seem to be very good at cooking, can I ask what type of things you snack on? We never seem to have anything in to snack on and need some healthy but high calorie / protein snacks for sporty DH (and for me if I ever get my arse in gear and start exercising again).

Hello Once you name changing made me your previous incarnation before the one you have just lost (iyswim) it made me smile

Congratulations mermaids

Good luck tonight cag

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 26/08/2017 20:47

ta da
pictures to framers ouch
farmers market
buy wood and fittings needed for various project.
Half 1st coat one wall - discovered the other half needs sorting (sanding or filling not sure yet)
Prime ceiling for painting
Cover all the things in plastic
sand things
mend cupboard
do all the car things - oil, lights, fluids, tyre checks and wash the field off it etc etc
Load the dw
tip run to get rid of half the stuff that is to go (t'other half being collected together after trip now space to gather)
Put stuff into long term storage in area 1.
deep clean spare bath
cut a load of wood
sand some of wood
fill wood requiring it
Do cleaning cycle in washing machine

well it hasn't been as productive as intended because I ran out of sand paper of the right grit and I had to fill a wall to make it good, but that was a few of the things off the to do list. Hopefully I can knock all the painting that needs doing this weekend off the to do list tomo. But for now there is a bath and a book with my name on it. night.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 26/08/2017 20:51

stressy I make a basic flapjack but chuck in things like cranberries or sunflower & pumpkin seeds etc. I used to make it with store bought museli when I was just making it for me instead of just oats.
The rest of our snacks are not so healthy (chocolate chip cookies, butter cookies, cake etc or ds' favourite which is chocolate spread and breadsticks preferrably straight out of the jar)

Cagliostro · 26/08/2017 20:55

Oh I am terrible with that sort of thing TBH so not one to advise! In an ideal world I'd be organised and good at cooking and make flapjacks and such.

Einstein the melatonin is slow release. No other option for that brand apparently. I'm not sure that's the better option - it's the extreme difficulty falling asleep that's the problem, but she generally stays asleep once she gets there. But we shall see. I know not to expect miracles anyway!

Cagliostro · 26/08/2017 21:07

My favourite snack is sliced apple or celery sticks dipped in crunchy peanut butter :o

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 26/08/2017 21:11

Thanks both. Need to buy some peanut butter and see if I can find a very easy flapjack recipe Smile.

OP posts:
celeste4 · 26/08/2017 21:13

Sliced apple dipped in crunchy peanut butter. Interesting Smile I'm trying to imagine that. We have apples but no peanut butter so cannot try it out right now.

Cagliostro · 27/08/2017 04:18

My mum told me about it a while ago and I thought WTF. Even more WTF at the celery idea. But it's so good! Has to be a sweet red apple IMO although I know some who prefer a Granny Smith with it.

DD was asleep slightly earlier than normal, so not a huge difference - took tablet at 8.15 asleep by 10.30 - but she was much calmer than usual beforehand, no stimming or anxiety. No idea if that's coincidental but it was certainly encouraging!

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/08/2017 07:50

cag already said apples and nut butter(we use almond because of allergies- -peanuts way cheaper)
Carrots and cashew butter yummy combo too
