Fledglings are raucous in August - the Flylady thread

Thanks to paxillin for our August thread title Smile.

Hello all and welcome to the August Flylady thread. We are a friendly bunch who try to roughly follow the Flylady system. How strictly you follow it is of course up to you! Every day the thread leader posts information about which zone of the house we are in and the missions for the week.

Newbies are always welcome. All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There is enough information on this thread to start getting on with things but you can also trawl through the (confusing at times) website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I'm on holiday this week with intermittent internet connection so will not be on much but will keep an eye on the thread and hopefully everyone else will feel free to jump in!

With it being summer holidays it may be pretty quiet on here but missions etc will be here for those who want them.

Morning all

Ds ended up in our bed for most of last night so i was woken at 545 by him trying to rip my hair clean from my scalp 😐

Yesterday gave our bedroom a good tidy, wiped all surfaces and changed bedding. Then hoovered all bedrooms, landings and stairs.

Ta Da

Washer on
Dryer empty
Dryer on
Baby bottles soaking

mermaidsandunicorns · 24/08/2017 06:55

einstein I should mention I also sympathise with the lego situation (but it was worded so wonderfully) I've put a flat rate ban on lego and toys that can be used as weapons for all Christmas an birthdays. My mum broke this rule last year so i made her keep the lego at her house.

Afreshstartplease · 24/08/2017 06:58

I hoover any lego on the floor and refuse to buy it!

foxessocks · 24/08/2017 07:03

I haven't reached the Lego stage yet we still have duplo here which is easier to tidy!

Ds up for ages in the night again and up at 6 this morning, don't know what's going on with him at the moment. Afresh is your ds a bit unsettled too? My ds used to sleep in our bed a lot but my dh was getting such a bad back from sleeping at a funny angle we have had to put a stop to it but it's hard getting him back in his cot sometimes.

My throat still hurts but think I'm getting a bit better. Going to try and get some flying done today depending how the day goes with an extra 3 yo here...

foxessocks · 24/08/2017 07:06

That reminds me of a tip I heard once for tidying Lego, you probably all already know it , you make your children play with the Lego on top of an unzipped sleeping bag then when they're done you just zip it up and store it in there. I'm not sure what a good idea that is tbh because kids don't generally stick to rules like only play with the Lego on that sleeping bag!!!

Afreshstartplease · 24/08/2017 07:15

foxes earlier in the week ds had a good couple of nights sleep but woke about midnight last night and i couldnt get him back in his cot. Ive had continuous bad nights sleep for months now it seems and im too tired to fight him!

Ta Da

Washer on
Dryer empty
Dryer on
Baby bottles soaking
Washing on line
Steriliser empty

I have heard the lego tip however i find the crunch of it going up the hoover strangely satisfying....

afresh sounds like we're going through similar then!

Cagliostro · 24/08/2017 09:26

Morning folks. Boy am I glad yesterday is over! I achieved nothing other than not killing anyone. DH is off work today thank goodness. And yes he brought chocolate.

GingerIvy · 24/08/2017 10:53

I've been seriously considering getting something with compartments to sort out the Lego somewhat. It's all together in a big plastic bin, and gets all over the place. We have a grey carpet, and the grey pieces blend right in!!!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 24/08/2017 11:25

GingerIvy - seriously don't bother. We have something to sort the lego into, and ds has waaaaaaaay too much for a mat bag type thing. You just end up resenting the fact your child refuses to put it away sorted and having to have mass sort outs periodically which become the ban of your life. Stick to just a mix tub it is easier on everyone's sanity in the long run Grin

Sorry mermaids this virus has been killing off my sense of humour not helped by the lack of sleep Blush

It was about 7am before I slept and I am up already. Hmm Well sort of up. My eyes are open and I am considering moving for breakfast. Blush

Cagliostro · 24/08/2017 11:29

We just have a massive tub for it. They aren't bothered about keeping sets together though (they tend to build a set, gradually adjust as they play with it and then they gradually get amalgamated with the rest. Exception being Mixels and Bionicles which are kept separate.

I mentioned melatonin the other week I think, well the paediatrician has given us the go ahead and is mailing us a prescription!

Afreshstartplease · 24/08/2017 11:32

Lego sets really piss me off. So expensive then end up mixed up

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 24/08/2017 11:37

Oh cag

Afresh and the sets never ever get rebuilt. The days when it was basic building blocks primarily were better imo. Although you can make some fancy new things with the unusual shaped pieces from the sets, but you do get much more resentful when the pieces are left on the floor and broken from being stood on Angry

Cagliostro · 24/08/2017 12:58

I don't really mind that Lego sets get broken up. Always buy them cheap though. I quite like all the weird and interesting pieces Blush

Ginger that Latin book, is it Gwynnes?

Thanks einstein after another few days of bad sleep I am desperate TBH! May not work (friend's DS went completely wide awake on it) but it needs trying!

Didn't manage to do Tesco order last night but thankfully have managed to book this morning for tonight. Need to sort dinner before that but it's something (we only pay for the midweek delivery saver so Thursday is the last day we can get shopping).

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 24/08/2017 13:03

It will also depend on the form - 1 hit or slow release. Plus there is no oh the melatonin will knock child to sleep no point in bothering with good sleep hygiene because it is totally possible for the child to over rule the sleep med effects and without the good sleep hygiene it won't work properly anyway. its an odd one. I am just pissed that insomnia has kicked my butt this week as ds is away and I could have slept and needed the sleep. Watch it bugger off when ds is back and he is not sleeping great in the run up to back to school.

I should move and do stuff. Feeling mostly better illness wise. Lack of sleep wise though Hmm Might go do some painting. Knowing that am getting close to finishing a room might motivate me...

Cagliostro · 24/08/2017 13:18

No absolutely, we won't slack on the other stuff we do to help her wind down. Just add this in. Thankfully the anxiety isn't quite as bad now (basically since we managed to mostly avoid the bully) so it's mainly that her brain won't wind down - the anxiety then creeps in IYSWIM but it's not the main factor anymore.

Sorry about the insomnia, it's shit.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 24/08/2017 13:50

And lack of sleep/good quality sleep always affects anxiety too. wasn't suggestion you would forget re sleep hygiene was reminding myself I need to pick that battle with ds who thinks he knows better

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/08/2017 15:39

Wash in dryer
Mire in
Quick sarnie for zoolets
