Fledglings are raucous in August - the Flylady thread

Thanks to paxillin for our August thread title Smile.

Hello all and welcome to the August Flylady thread. We are a friendly bunch who try to roughly follow the Flylady system. How strictly you follow it is of course up to you! Every day the thread leader posts information about which zone of the house we are in and the missions for the week.

Newbies are always welcome. All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There is enough information on this thread to start getting on with things but you can also trawl through the (confusing at times) website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I'm on holiday this week with intermittent internet connection so will not be on much but will keep an eye on the thread and hopefully everyone else will feel free to jump in!

With it being summer holidays it may be pretty quiet on here but missions etc will be here for those who want them.

Sent him in trainers! Tbh some kids wear them anyway although against policy. Not even black. One girl rotates between pink and white nikes.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 23/08/2017 11:20

In our experience Asda were destroyed at the same rate as clarks -ie in just over half a term. Ds only has asda, I was most surprised that his last 2 pairs of shoes lasted 1/2 a school year. But that says far more about him then it does the shoes Hmm These days he flies in the door from school, dumps the blazer and rest of his uniform and then flies out the door to go climb trees/hit the skate board park/be a boy but that might be because he was shocked at the cost of his high school uniform and I told him if he kill his blazer he bought the replacement out of his pocket money Grin

Does anyone else dump things in the top drawer of their dresser for a safe place and then release there is more need a quick temporary safe place stuff in the drawer then what is supposed to be there and there is no real room for what is/should be there?

Shocking night's sleep here. Was up until nearly 5. Fever has still not properly broken even if I am feeling slightly better during the day and thus probably doing too much during the day and making the fucking virus linger longer then it needs Hmm

Also who the fuck actually thought that lego was a good sodding idea, It gets fecking everywhere (found in the washing machine yesterday - again) and children seem to be highly adverse to tidying it. And if i have to admire/pretend to die at the hands of one more weapon complete with moving parts I am going to scream. It clearly is the work of the devil.

To do
guess, go on, you will never guess. hint^^ Wink
laundry
banking
find the rest of the financial paperwork for filing - did what i could find yesterday as it was a gentle sit down activity.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2017 11:30

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/08/2017 11:34

YY Cag, lots of people seem to have no comprehension about how 24 hour childcare is not always available at the drop of a hat!

Glad leak fixed zoo!

Ta da:-
Top of wardrobe decluttered
Gone through DD1's dress up stuff and soft toys with her. Of course she wanted to keep all soft toys - had decluttered a couple before asking her as she really has far too many but thought I'd better check the rest with her.

To do:-
Drag girls out for a bit of food shopping - they are playing nicely and chilling with telly atm but if I don't get them out I will pay for it later
Lunch as soon as we get back.
Going out now!

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/08/2017 11:35

Ooh also cleaned DD1's little doll houses. I'm on a roll I was not avoiding exercise or work emails (I am having to take annual leave today so resent working through it) at all

DS did his diagram this morning yay! Didn't grumble once he got going and did his labels as speech bubbles - I giggled at "I am Root" :o. Think science will be short and sweet this afternoon - tiny bit of writing and mostly revising the last two days. After a while we will be adding in other subjects so we won't be doing it every day anyway, at the moment it's more about getting them used to doing 'proper work'.

DD is still freaking out about the idea of doing maths on paper so looks like it'll still be on whiteboards for a while yet! We even have squared grid and coordinates whiteboards so will start using them.

I did some maths planning last night too so need to write that up. We've been sticking to really cementing some basics for ages but I've decided the next stages now.

Also got to ring an author about some possible editing and reeeeally need to sort out the damn clean clothes Angry

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2017 12:24

Yay stressy youve got loads done
whoo hoo caglet science

My lack of sleep start catch up wuth me(yawns)

Dd2 off to friends now.shes pop back 145 pick up ds then they collecting his "girlfriend" and heading local ice cream parlor with dd2 n friend chaperoning his first date😍

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 23/08/2017 12:32

Someone remind me I need to get a new fire blanket for the kitchen.

Can I go back to bed and get a do over?

Cagliostro · 23/08/2017 13:00

Aww still that's so cute!

I am seriously in no mood for screechy jumpy kids today and yet I have gained an extra one (neighbour) hoping they will stay outside most of the day

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 23/08/2017 13:05

They can just smell the 'I want peace and quiet' vibe can't they Cag I hope you get your wish!

foxessocks · 23/08/2017 15:31

Thanks everyone for the kind words , am still feeling pretty rubbish but I've managed to get a few bits at the supermarket and do daily routine. Didn't get to my meeting , ds was asleep and I wasn't feeling it!!

Haven't done any missions or decluttering - am giving myself the day off from official flying! We've mainly been watching Thomas the tank engine this afternoonSmile

Cagliostro · 23/08/2017 15:38

Yes it's definitely a sixth sense. DS is super stimmy as well. I am in such a crap mood.

GingerIvy · 23/08/2017 16:08

Cag hope your day improves.

We've had a relatively good day. Walked to shops and library. Did maths science, reading, English, and ICT. Now it's down time until dinner.

Nothing exciting done around the house except the dishes and usual everyday stuff. I am hoping to get more shredding done tonight. This weekend I'm planning a blitz on some paperwork that needs to be completed.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/08/2017 16:17

Well done for getting to supermarket foxes. Cag, hope things get better, it's rubbish when you feel grumpy and have to keep DCs engaged too Flowers.

Ta da:-
Quick food shop
Made chocolate fudge
Cleared up mess from chocolate fudge
Tea cooking (leftover spag bol)

Both DDs grumpy this afternoon but was inevitable really as they had a great morning playing together plus making the fudge and the good moods were never going to last all day Grin.

To do:-
Get tea on table ASAP!

Cagliostro · 23/08/2017 17:03

Thanks it's got slightly better now I've sent the neighbour home. They were all winding each other up. But I think I might disappear for a lie down while the Caglets watch a DVD downstairs.

I sent DH a request for chocolate, heaven help him if it goes unheeded!

foxessocks · 23/08/2017 18:41

cag surely your dh wouldn't be so foolish to ignore your plea for chocolate! Glad you're feeling a bit better. I have a friends dc coming for the day tomorrow and I'm not particularly looking forward to it! They just get so over excited.

DD was really hard work this evening, she is completely over tired. We've put her to bed early and dh has just managed to get the baby to sleep too...fingers crossed it lasts as I'm in desperate need of some peace and quiet!

Cagliostro · 23/08/2017 18:54

Oh he wouldn't deliberately ignore it. He knows that would be playing with fire. Especially with hormonal pregnant wife. :o It'll only be if he doesn't check his phone before break. Fingers crossed!

Hope you have a peaceful evening. I'm hiding upstairs while the Caglets watch horrible histories and play. They've got an hour then tidy up and bed. Better work.

mermaidsandunicorns · 23/08/2017 19:21

Evening all

Work day today so not a lot achieved I try and keep just the min ticking over on work days so it's not a bear out but not quite how I would like it iyswim

Work has formally confirmed my request for flexible working so even if I'm not successful with new job, il have better hours with the old one.

einstein your lego post made me lol 😂

GoGoGazelle · 23/08/2017 19:27

Thanks for the warm welcome! Am doing the missions but that's about all (same as mermaid it's a work day).

Greymalkin · 23/08/2017 19:35

Evening all, I'm just jumping straight in, but quick skim read shows lots of newbies Haven't seen SC - is she OK?

Super productive day:
Took DS to nursery
Took a boot full of crap to the tip
Collected prescriptions
Took DS's school shoes back to Sainsburys for a refund as they got seriously scuffed after one wear - quality was awful.
Fuelled car

Wash load on
Deep clean of bathroom: vicious scrub of toilet, disinfected toilet and basin surfaces, fished hair and grot out of plugholes, polished mirror, scrubbed shower screen, scrubbed floor on hands and knees
Loaded dishwasher

Dismantled large play table DS no longer uses, listed for sale on Facebook
Rearranged furniture in clear space
Hoovered
Made three beds

Met up with DBro for coffee and catch up
Picked up DS from nursery
Tumble dryer on

Knackered now, but really pleased to have got so much done.

celeste4 · 23/08/2017 20:46

Everyone has been busy today. I managed to complete my triple slam; deep clean of kitchen and bathroom and hoovered all rooms Smile

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 23/08/2017 21:14

sc has been on her jollies grey but from what I can tell she is fine Grin

Glad someone is amused about the lego mermaids it is going into a locked room away from ds for a week from when he gets back. Angry.

Strangely enough I haven't touched the lego today. Been too busy elsewhere. Am beginning to think my to do list perpetually should just read all the things and then i might not have so much ability to ignore the things that should be done in favour of other stuff. Hmm Massive ta da to follow when I finish the doings... Made the mistake of a costa coffee to avoid getting completely stuck in hideous evening rush hour traffic. I forgot how strong that stuff is Blush should never repeat that mistake again productivity over sleep is still rest inducing right? Confused

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/08/2017 22:19

Evening all. Celeste, good going with the triple whammy Smile. Hope you get some sleep Einstein. Wow Grey, definitely s productive day Star. GoGo and mermaids, I think any flying on a work day is impressive.

Did you get your chocolate Cag? Hope you got a little rest foxes. zoo, hope date went well! Ginger, glad you had a good day.

Big wing flaps to Afresh, ofazoo and everyone else Smile.

ta da
set fire to breakfast - hence why i need a new fire blanket for the kitchen

fix broken picture frame
tip another brc onto the pile of not finished dealing with and reduce pile back down to the size it started at today Hmm yeah i know but i want to get all the paper work dealt with so I can long term store in one go
make a to do list of what needs to be done before ds back
make a crafting to do list
figure out christmas planning which doesn't involve food (food planning gets sorted 1 month before) including the pre christmas cleaning list
consider going into the craft room for more rbc - put idea on hold for now.
gather charity shop stuff together ready for going tomo
banking
emergency appointment at GP - their judgement not mine. Apparently viral and keep doing what doing and go back in a week if not better.
petrol
stuck in the traffic because you know lets dig up all the roads in one area leaving only 1 option where there is normally 6 because that works Hmm
pick up parts for fixing car
have the "the world does not evolve around you" convo with my mother again.
prep work for painting at the weekend
laundry
manhandle the doors open on the long term storage cupboard in ds' room and buy new handles to replace the ones that seem to have been broken and me not told about
consider furniture re-jigging and whether a new piece will solve the storage issue - jury is still out on it.
disassemble laundry room
deep clean laundry room (with exception to behind machines and machines as they were running)
disassemble ventilation pipe for tumble dryer and clean
hoover the filters and filter vent on tumble dryer
prep for painting in a second room

And that they say is that. I am going to find a nice gentle craft project and watch some tv until i eventually fall asleep (probably another stupid late evening but meh. Not planning on driving anywhere tomo as need to sort a few bits on car before I can really anyway.
