Fledglings are raucous in August - the Flylady thread

Thanks to paxillin for our August thread title Smile.

Hello all and welcome to the August Flylady thread. We are a friendly bunch who try to roughly follow the Flylady system. How strictly you follow it is of course up to you! Every day the thread leader posts information about which zone of the house we are in and the missions for the week.

Newbies are always welcome. All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There is enough information on this thread to start getting on with things but you can also trawl through the (confusing at times) website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I'm on holiday this week with intermittent internet connection so will not be on much but will keep an eye on the thread and hopefully everyone else will feel free to jump in!

With it being summer holidays it may be pretty quiet on here but missions etc will be here for those who want them.

Here is the daily summary for Wednesday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

Baby-step no 23 - afternoon/get home from work routine. I find this one really useful as can adapt it (as Flylady says) to something that fits your schedule.

We are in Zone 4 this week: the master bedroom and en-suite if applicable

Spend 15 mins, or whatever you can manage, decluttering in Zone 4.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 4 is here

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

August's habit is laundry

Happy flying everyone.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2017 05:23

Welcome gogogazelle

I need to finish panic cleaning kitchen ready for workman to arrive(between 730-1230)

Afreshstartplease · 23/08/2017 06:33

Morning all

I still have shoes to buy for my boys, ive also been told "no one really wears pumps for pe now they wear trainers" So think i need to buy trainers too. Saw some yesterday online for less than 20 a pair so not too horrific.

Little ds has slept through last two nights. Both nights dd has ended up in my bed!

foxessocks · 23/08/2017 07:06

mermaids good luck!

ZooBrewI'm running on very little sleep today too Sad

Afresh my ds has stopped sleeping through again (didn't last long!) not sure if it's the illness we've all had or teeth or what but he was so upset last night Sad

I'm absolutely exhausted, my kids are ganging up on me - despite ds being up for 2 hours in the night he was awake at 6am and then my dd who usually reliably sleeps until at least 7 also decided to get up at 6 and both of them are now getting every toy out in her bedroom while I lie in her bed , still got a sore throat and just can't be bothered! Dh is getting ready for work and I'm not going to move until he has brought me some caffeine!

I don't have high hopes for flying today Hmm somehow I've got to attempt the food shopping which I've been putting off and I've got a committee meeting for a group I belong to later. Argh! Someone motivate me!

Afreshstartplease · 23/08/2017 07:18

Oh bless you foxes baby ds was up at 6, dd 645 and ds2 at 7. Still waiting on 9 year old ds1 and then they are on a promise of pancakes for breakfast.

I have just managed the energy to make brew #1 and chopped fruit for pancakes

Ds has just tipped all the duplo on to the wooden floor making far too much noise!

GingerIvy · 23/08/2017 07:49

mermaids good luck!!!

gogo welcome!!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2017 08:11

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2017 08:14

If american styly leave some pancakes and fruit for me please😀 dont bother in flat english ones.i dont like them

Afreshstartplease · 23/08/2017 08:28

They were flat i do appologise. How do you find the asda trainers ware zoo? I had some shoes for the dc from there when they were smaller but found they didnt last well at all. Unfortunately ds1also goes to school with some kids who have swimming pools etc so there is some peer pressure for brands which i will allow but i wont buy the newest most expensive. Anyway we have agreed they will take their current trainers for home as pe ones and have the new ones for home which they seem happy with.

Just made brew #2 and am surveying kitchen post pancakes. It is not pretty

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/08/2017 08:31

Morning all. foxes, best of luck for today. I remember those days well of being poorly with little ones. Agree with zoo, sounds like survival and CBeebies are the order of the day.

Great news mermaids about second interview. Mmmmmm Afresh, I love pancakes too (either kind Smile).

A warm welcome to GoGo.

Wing flaps to Einstien and Ginger and everyone else.

Not in work today as no childcare so trying not to think about what they will be saying about me there for not being in Sad. Will need to have a look at work emails later.

Ta da:-
Morning routine started
Girls playing with barbies and watching telly but will need to lure them down for breakfast after this.

To do:-
Hoping to manage 15 mins decluttering in master bedroom and some work in DD1's bedroom if I can get the girls on side.

DD1 got a book from the library about chocolate deserts Hmm so have said we could chose one, go and get the ingredients (we need milk anyway and can't stay in all day or they will be stir crazy) and make it this afternoon. It will be something to do.

Was going to do some exercise but CBA. Should feel guilty but maybe after the summer holidays I'll get back into it...

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/08/2017 08:31

The chocolate thing will need to be easy to make though, I am a terrible cook!

Mumofazoo · 23/08/2017 08:35

Morning everyone,
Welcome *Gogogazelle
Brew Brew for foxes and livinginazoo

Feeling a lot better today although eldest ds was up most of the night fighting his melatonin Hmm so I had to take his books off him.

I've bought most of the uniforms, I've just got shoes to buy but I leave them till the last minute in case of growth spurts (eldest ds is already 6ft 2)

Ta da
Dishwasher emptied
Dishwasher loaded with breakfast dishes
Dressed
Beds all made

To do
Cycle to CAMHS to pick up both boys prescriptions
Pick up bf birthday present
Plan next weeks meal plan
Chop firewood

Hope you all have a great day.

celeste4 · 23/08/2017 08:43

Fresh Yeah that is more than we have got for our boy. I think boys are probably easier and cheaper to buy for than girls but saying that i seem to remember my parents having to buy loads of trousers and shoes for my brother as he would wreck them playing football at play time.

We have brought:-

3x trousers
3x jumpers
5x shirts
1x p.e. kit inc plimsols
1x pair of school shoes
1x p.e. bag
1x school bag
set of stationary
lunchbox

I'm anticipating my laundry basket being needing attending to more regularly once he starts school Hmm

Foxes I hope the day is kind to you and you get well soon.

Yesterday ds's trike broke. The wheel completely sheered off. dh has taken it to the dump this morning. ds also managed to brake another toy yesterday aswell so last night it spurred me into a mini sort out of his toys. Some other bits have gone to the dump and I have got a bag of things to take to the charity shop later in the week. ds had outgrown the trike anyway but he was sad until i reminded him he had a perfectly good scooter that he had probably only used three times before so last night he rediscovered that and is now already pestering me to go the park with it this morning.

We're not gonna do much today, bar going to the park a few times, so I'm gonna try and do the triple slam of kitchen clean, bathroom clean and hoover all rooms!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2017 09:15

afresh ive never had a problem asda trainers.but we walk loads and i exoect them to wear out in couple 3-4 months

Zoolets fed n watered
Lil zoo just had tital meltdown as i brushed her very long hair.shes 10 october and i think periods are very nearly upon us(unlike dd2 who at 13 is way less developed)i am out of my depth try reason/manreasonlittle girl who has way mire hormones than kniws what to do with.apparently. sayibg i need take bobbles out to brush it is shouting at her?!i also stand accused shout at her all the time and she stays in her room and edits mlp clips adding how sad.lonely and useless she feels.any attempt to talk to her she stonewalls me and scampers back to her tablet.other two confirm i not shouting at her.any ideas suggestions be gratefully recieved

Afreshstartplease · 23/08/2017 09:18

celeste my eldest ds is 9 and terrible on clothes. He rips trousers , scuffs shoes, stains tshirts on a weekly basis. 8 year old isnt as bad but regularly looses jumpers, pe kit and once a shoe

Cagliostro · 23/08/2017 09:25

Morning all!

Welcome gogo :)

Fab news mermaids! Star

Stressy totally agree about childcare. It's really hard especially if you don't have willing family very near.

Afresh I was the same with uniform for DD, so much choice! Don't worry about PE trainers getting worn out quickly, it's only a couple of hours a week usually (and when they're little much of that time is spent getting changed :o).

Well my plan of getting the Caglets up failed at day 3, didn't think to set an alarm last night and we all only woke up just before 9! Blush

Feeling very unmotivated now TBH. Need to sort out our clothes, I'm good at getting the Caglets to put theirs away but we've got lots of our own to do. It's difficult to get to our cupboard Blush due to clutter and the fact the sliding doors are broken. Other than that I have a couple of home ed things planned (including DS doing the very simple diagram he refused to do yesterday). DD has gym/acro later if I can be bothered. No idea what to do for dinner, and need to order Tesco.

Aaaaaargh.

celeste4 · 23/08/2017 10:15

Fresh How can anyone actually loose a shoe? Did he hobble home like a pegman with one shoe that day? Grin

ta da

put bins and recycling out for collection
made beds
washed dishes
cleaned fridge
cleaned oven
cleaned hob
cleaned microwave
zoflora'd kitchen tops
bleached kitchen sink
emptied kitchen bin
changed the kitchen towels
swept kitchen floor

Will mop the kitchen floor just before we go to the park in a sec.

Afreshstartplease · 23/08/2017 10:16

He came home in pe pumps! The shoe never reappeared.

celeste4 · 23/08/2017 10:19

What did you do for the rest of the school week until you could get some new shoes? I mean no one has a spare set of school shoes do they.
