Fledglings are raucous in August - the Flylady thread

Thanks to paxillin for our August thread title Smile.

Hello all and welcome to the August Flylady thread. We are a friendly bunch who try to roughly follow the Flylady system. How strictly you follow it is of course up to you! Every day the thread leader posts information about which zone of the house we are in and the missions for the week.

Newbies are always welcome. All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There is enough information on this thread to start getting on with things but you can also trawl through the (confusing at times) website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I'm on holiday this week with intermittent internet connection so will not be on much but will keep an eye on the thread and hopefully everyone else will feel free to jump in!

With it being summer holidays it may be pretty quiet on here but missions etc will be here for those who want them.

Morning all. No kettle pile zoo and Afresh ShockEnvy?!

Ta da:-
Morning routine - nearly, I need to get dressed but otherwise done (I know, Flylady would not approve Grin).

To do:-
We are off to an adventure park type place with a friend later today so need to get ready and go.

Look up directions thoroughly - concerningly the website says be careful following sat nav as you can get easily lost Confused.

Big wing flaps to all.

afresh dekettle piling maybe a new trend?
mumofzoomine are 22.13.11.near 10.not loving the teen/tween years.i spend my life shoveling mess.in warzone.and catering.do they ever stop bloody eating? Pre teen they were locusts.now they are more voracious than plagues i fear.....

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 16/08/2017 09:35

No kettle pile here but I have a folder for school letters and the aforementioned control center (aka door)

Sleep last night was very lacking. Like only 3 hours worth lacking. Feeling grumpy with stupid people who live in a barn and like loud tv. going to try for another hour before crawling out of bed to function.

foxessocks · 16/08/2017 11:38

Einstein sorry about you rubbish night's sleep, I had a bad night with ds too who we are trying to stop having milk at night and he hasn't happy about it. But I got more that 3 hours so I sympathise!

I don't have a kettle pile but I have a kitchen counter pile so same thing haha! It's really big at the moment actually. Need to sort that.

Ta das
Some of daily routine
Library books back
Bit of shopping that was needed
Picked up parcel

Just having a cup of tea before I make lunch then we're heading out to babysit for a friend this afternoon. The house is descending into a big mess again Sad I've not even managed one mission so far this week and have only done the floor mopping from the home bleugh. Gah!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 16/08/2017 11:43

Sand, clean, paint, watch dry, paint some more, watch dry some more.
Yep this is as interesting as my life gets

GingerIvy · 16/08/2017 12:02

Back after a long time away, if that's okay. Coming up on September, which is my "Spring clean" as autumn is my favourite time of year.

I can see I've got a lot to catch up on, but really need a good tidy. Tonight is "shred night" to get rid of a bunch of old paperwork and junk mail.

foxessocks · 16/08/2017 12:11

What does everyone do as part of the weekly home bleugh? I can't find it on the fly lady website and I've forgotten what she includes . I think:

Hoovering
Mopping
Polishing mirrors
Dusting
Changing bed sheets
Emptying bins
Have I forgotten anything? What do you all include?

Afreshstartplease · 16/08/2017 12:37

I've never gotten into home bleugh. Probably should.

Ta Da

One load dry
Two loads washed waiting to dry
Tea pots washed
Breakfast pots washed
Kitchen units cleaned
Kitchen moved around

GingerIvy · 16/08/2017 12:41

Weekly, I do mopping, changing bed sheets, vacuuming entire house (small little bits here and there as needed during week), dusting, empty bins (although frequently that is done more often), meal plan. I'm sure there is more, but it's often doing one thing reminds me to do something else.

Polishing mirrors. There's something I've not done in awhile. Blush along with cleaning the windows. Guess I'll be adding that to my list of "to do" things.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 16/08/2017 13:15

foxes you have forgotten clean out magazines/newspapers

Not sure if you have covered it all but there is 7 things on the home bleurgh that much I do remember.

foxessocks · 16/08/2017 13:59

afresh I don't usually do it really either I'm trying to do better in general!! Just don't seem to be managing everything at the moment.

Einstein ah well I never have magazine or newspapers so that's one thing I don't have to worry about I guess! My dd does have comics but I'm never allowed to throw those away Hmm

Afreshstartplease · 16/08/2017 15:25

I've been absorbed by the expensive teenagers thread and done next to nothing!

Mumofazoo · 16/08/2017 15:54

Afternoon all,
Ta da
Back from camhs
Sorted bullet journals out with the mini zoo.
Today's laundry pile
Vacuumed the downstairs
Dusted downstairs

I don't have a kettle pile we have a command centre in the hall, we started it 2years ago and it keeps everyone so organised.

To do.
Sort out my in tray
Sort mail
Bath dogs
Bath youngest dd

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 16/08/2017 18:11

I was twarted wrt painting due to filler not being dry yet Hmm
So instead I have chunked 9 boxes of random crap all over the floor to sort. Got about a box ish left to sort and running out of steam Blush but will have reduced it to 2 boxes of ds' stuff and 2 of mine to be put away/found homes so that is not too bad. CBA is starting to kick my butt and motivation though and there is no path through the lounge atm Hmm quick nap, tea and then some more me thinks.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/08/2017 20:04

Ta da:-
Nice day at adventure park
Some laundry done although not enough
Booked dentist appointment as knocked a bit out of a filling this morning Sad. Appointment not until next week!

To do:-
Look at some dates for some work training - took this job on with the idea of doing he odd shift every so often but it is not working out like that Sad.
Unpacking

Cagliostro · 16/08/2017 20:48

Today I put a wash on (actually DD did half of it TBH)
Taught a pupil maths and piano (not taught much lately so was nice to get back to it)
Did maths with Caglets and looked up next project - learning Ancient Greek alphabet!
Took DD to gym/acro and had nice time waiting with DS
Ordered our buggy!!!

Got a fucking huge headache now though

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/08/2017 21:08

Wow mumofazoo, (do I call you mum, mumofa it just mumofazoo or maybe ofazoo?!) you are another one with a launch pad / organisation station. I would love one but don't think I'd get DH on board. What sort of furniture do you use for it if that makes sense?

How do I break free of my kettle pile?

Afresh, I had a look at that thread and then stopped reading / it was too depressing Grin and I have ages yet before they are teenagers anyway.

foxes, I'll try to find a link for the home bleugh. Personally I think it is not possible in 1hr and 10 mins (what Flylady says) unless your house is already show home standard. I have read what she says about it being doable and I just don't buy it. Unless you do a shit job. I don't even try. DH does it towards the end of the week while I look after DDs. Sheets and towels are changed at some point in the week.

Welcome back Ginger. I absolutely love Autumn and Winter too. Actually September is possibly my favourite month as there is the whole fresh start feeling that you talk about plus the promise of the night's drawing in.

Good going with the BRCs Einstein (boxes of random crap for newbies).

zoo, I have now accepted that they will never stop eating Smile.

Big wing flaps to all. Will be back with links in a bit.

mermaids, hope your fixed hours at work get sorted - that would be brilliant news if it works out Smile.

Afreshstartplease · 17/08/2017 07:23

cag what buggy have you ordered I like buggy talk!

stressy I have had to buy a house twice the size to get rid of my kettle pile ...

I'd love to see a photo of anyone's command centre / organisation station if anyone would like to share!

Ds was up from 4-5, then up for day at 630 Sad

GingerIvy · 17/08/2017 07:39

stressy ouch for the tooth! Been there - no fun! Hope you can get it sorted quickly and relatively painlessly!

Cag hope your headache is better today.

zoo Sounds like a good productive day. I don't know what a kettle pile is. Is this something new I've missed?

This morning's things done so far:
dcs up and dressed
dcs meds given
breakfast
bread baking
started kitchen tidy - will finish it after I'm done with my coffee
currently organising the home ed work for the day while dcs are watching television

We were going to walk down to the GP surgery to drop off prescription refills this morning, but it's raining. The dcs get a bit stressed about being out in the rain (well, one does anyway), so we'll have to change plans to do it this afternoon, once it stops (hopefully!).

To do:
finish working on blog
grocery order to complete online
work with dcs on stop motion app they've just started (part of home ed)
bacon sandwiches for lunch (per meal plan Grin)

Afreshstartplease · 17/08/2017 08:02

A kettle pile is a heap of junk collecting beside your kettle. For quite some time several of us had these!

Ta Da

Dryer on
Sink filled

GingerIvy · 17/08/2017 09:26

fresh oh, okay! Thanks! I have more of a "table pile" than a kettle pile. Working on it though. Slowly...
