Fledglings cocoon, we're Flying in June ... .

Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Tired unmotivated and off to read those threads!

I did make myself a decent little lunch though (not cooked but even assembling a salad is too much sometimes). Wondering if I can possibly manage cooking tonight.

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/06/2017 14:21

My house is definitely at shithole status at mo

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 13/06/2017 14:23

Yeah the med is not painkillers, It is to stop complications from scaring when they did emergency surgery years ago. I stopped taking the meds as I got sick of the 10-14day cycle it gave me Hmm tbh that is better than the pain from the complications

Feeling better for being in work earlier.

Hello everyone! Not remotely up to date with thread but hope all fledglings ok.

Thank you so much Cotswold for doing the links in my absence; v kind of you indeed Flowers Cake Gin and much appreciated!

Hope you will forgive me, and sorry a bit early, but just posting links for tomorrow now whilst I have a quick moment alone - lots to do later this eve collecting dd from friends and furry from pet-sitter and checking office as dh was away too (separately) - will catch up with you all properly tomorrow!

Slightly jaded but heart-felt wing flaps to all!

The summary for Wednesday 14 June is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 14 for Wed 14th June is here. Tips on using a calendar.

We are in Zone 3 this week: The Bathroom and One Extra Room here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 3 (if you are at that stage) is here.

Wednesday's mission is: here. Declutter and clean medicine cabinet; getting rid of anything older than expiry date (and return to a chemist if necessary). In the other room: spend 5 mins decluttering any stash and dash piles, putting items away in their proper place.

The daily focus for Wednesday anti-procrastination. Steel yourself and do something you have been dreading [SC surveys extremely long list and wonders which task to choose Hmm ].

The monthly habit in June is drinking water.

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Keep going everyone! Small steps and all of that ... .

Good to see you back SC, hope everything went as well as it could have done.

Yes, timewasting cheating on this thread with another housekeeping one - no pointy stick of motivation to avoid, y'see. I probably need more than one source of motivation/accountability most days Grin But you're my favourites WineFlowersCakeBrew

zoo what is this thing called sleep you speak of ?? Grin she's nearly walking so I think she's far too busy learning her new skill to sleep.

Glad to have you back sc

I didn't get much done yesterday, I was in a foul mood and really emotional for no particular reason. I still feel agitated today, but a lot better, so I'm cracking on with the tasks.

Ta da
kids are at school
dishwasher on
1 load of washing waiting to be hung out when dd2 wakes up
another load waiting to go in
15 mins general tidy (beds made, s&s, a quick tidy of whats already been achieved so I don't have to keep redoing the same things)

to do
the job I've been dreading - getting on top of putting the clothes away, then hopefully the 15 mins a day will keep on top of it!
15 mins in the bathroom
15 mins ironing
go through the medicines
help the kids with the childrens fly task (ds finds letting go of toys really hard, but has chucked a broken windmill in the bag already, I'll do dd2's, I'm expecting a battle with dd1 when she gets home from school)
the older kids have both got clubs tonight so I suppose I better get organised for that before they come home

Have a good day everyone!!

Sanscollier · 14/06/2017 10:44

Hello lovely fledglings

A bit knackered this morning and it's been a tough one. Have just dropped dd off white and shaking to an obligatory state aural exam poor sausage. She is good at the subject so no problem there but as luck would have it she had woken in the night with really cripplingly awful period pain and looks as white as a sheet. She is worried she is either going to faint or throw up on the examiner's shoes. I've dosed her up with appropriate meds, given her a heat pad, and told her (trying to sound as calm and confident as possible, that adrenalin would see her through) but I do really hope she will be ok. So unfair that girls have to put up with this ... .

Ta da:
unpacked bag
animals
emptied and filled dw
two loads washing in
breakfast for dd
ran dd to school
work e-mail
friend e-mail
firmed up estate agent appt
make a list of important qs to ask dh and get definitive answers for

Have a continuing "to do" list as long as my arm but can't really settle to anything until I have picked dd up and she is safe and sound back at home again so just having a quick Brew and catching up with thread ... .

Mumontherun I am so sorry to hear that your ds and dd both have whooping cough. I hope they (and you) are ok. There was quite a big outbreak of it here and in France over Christmas and NY (in adults as well as dc). I hate to say it but it is known as "the hundred day cough" over here. I do hope your dc recover much quicker than that.

Cotswold I hope your dd is feeling much better now and is recovering too. Whoo-hoo and Star for mega tip run!!!! Even if it doesn't look like it, it will make a difference, I promise you! One tranche of decluttering often leads to another imho.

Zoo [snaffles a spoonful of left over shepherd's pie] that is a super-fantastic list you got through there despite feeling below par! Star Had to chuckle over comment about returning house to human habitat as opposed to one designed for animals. I often think this about our place!! The furries are taking over frankly ... . Very Envy of Lil Zoo and archery lessons!! Fantastic!! Hope she had fun! And hope your kittens are OK today! [Fingers and paws crossed for them here.]

Rosa congrats on all the good progress made last week. Hope this week is going well too!

Some of us have a control journal and some of us don't. Tbh, now we are in the age of technology with various apps and similar things available, I think an oj is perhaps a little outdated as a concept now but as it happens I do happen to have one (constructed in a fit of enthusiasm years ago) although it has turned in to a multi-lingual "how to look after this house while we are away file" but has proved useful many times nonetheless. It does contain daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, six-monthly and annual routines but I don't really need to consult them very often nowadays as they have become second nature or the tasks are ignored. It also contains useful lists of emergency numbers such as next of kin, plumbers, vets, dog-sitters, doctors etc and instructions on how to care for our animals, how to lock up the house, and the foibles of the central heating/plumbing system etc, when rubbish is collected etc. It is really useful to have all of this info in one place because you can just hand it to house/pet sitters in one fell swoop and all the info they need is in there. Not so sure any more of its use as a cleaning organisation tool though ifyswim! I have an Organised Mum Family Calendar here
complete with stickers for all family appts and if something isn't listed on there it doesn't get done. And I have a notebook in my handbag for writing down tel numbers and appts when I am outside the house which get transferred to calendar when I get home.

Einstein Yes the news is simply awful isn't it? Sad Sad

Is that a bullet journal you are describing or your own version of it? I have been toying with the idea of starting one for ages. And sorry to hear you have been in pain Sad but you obviously haven't let it get in the way of your mahoosive to da lists; Star.

Glad to hear assessment went ok-ish Cag despite the highlighting of other possible potential issues; hope you and dd feeling ok about it and that good things/support spring from it. And top marks for preparing a healthy lunch for yourself and the bump! Smile

Looks as though you have been hugely active BluePheasant! Well done re: painting the kitchen. Glad to hear your dd's birthday and the carpet-laying went well! So sorry to hear your dd is ill now though. Hope she feels better soon. Loving the thought of sweet peas!! I have never been able to grow them very successfully. Intend to have another go next year though!

Speaking of sweet peas - yay - lovely to "see you" Whoknows and don't blame you for gardening rather than choring; so much more enjoyable, creative and productive, especially in this weather! Profitez! (I still haven't had time to re-establish potager at wreck2 but will be asking for advice when I do!!)

Foxes hope your ds continuing to give you slightly less interrupted nights! Well done re: paperwork/desk decluttering. I did something similar last month but decluttered papers in to large cardboard box (which now needs sorting out) Blush. Not very sensible really!

Mermaids I think you earn a Halo and extra minute points for Flying at work. Extremely noble of you to tackle the work fridge!!

Afreshstart oh no! Sorry to hear your little one has a cold too! And knowing your resilience/general fortitude, I am certain "shit hole status" will not remain for very long!! Brew and Chocolate

Toostressy Wow I think a Star is definitely deserved for giving up sleep in order to declutter! Very impressive! And thanks for links to other threads; I'm interested to look at them as KonMarie did not do it for me either. Found her a bit barking tbh! Was it my imagination or did she really recommend storing carrots upright in the fridge at one point? Grin

Hope your cold is better Purple

Sorry cannot scroll anymore - apologies to anyone I have inadvertently missed - big wing flaps to all!

Slightly productive morning here. DH instigated some decluttering so I was helping make decisions without needing to wear myself out physically. 3 bags ready for charity now (not all from today, some stuff had been lurking). Caglets put some clothes away and DH did more laundry too. So that's something. :)

Rosabellajames · 14/06/2017 14:15

aww sc hope your dd is ok, to have an exam is stressful anyway without having a period to deal with aswell.

dd2 has been so mardy today, so not much done yet. She's finally given in and gone to sleep so I'm using my time wisely and having a coffee. Going to carry on with the battle of the never ending clothes piles, I may just throw everything and just have 3 outfits each!! haha

Hi all

Thanks for all the good wishes for the whooping cough. It certainly is a horrible illness. The cough seems to have lasted about 100 days already and this week poor DD is having breathless turns -a bit like asthma attacks. There seems to be not much they can do -she has a new inhaler to try so we'll see how that goes.

Dark and showery in Scotland - am jealous of you guys who have good weather and cold beers! Although we were down at my brothers in Hertfordshire at the weekend and it was lovely and sunny - it just hasn't reached Scotland yet.

Not a huge amount of flying today - I really have no excuse as have been at home all day but DD off school so have been looking after her.

Ta Da's
