Fledglings cocoon, we're Flying in June ... .

Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Hope exam went ok for your DD sc, totally agree about it being unfair when periods coincide with exams!

House a bit of a shit tip to be frank. Still got birthday party debris to clear up. New toys to find homes for, bloody Lego!! Grin
Have been good at getting the washing done, not so good at putting it away!
Every single pair of shoes we own seems to have found their way into the porch.
Clutter piles multiplying everywhere...

Me and DH both have colds so just been doing the essentials between us.
It doesn't bother DH in the slightest when house gets a bit chaotic whereas I feel I can't relax properly when it's like this, it effects my mood, as can prob tell by this moany post! Oh well there's always next week! am sure I said that last week

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/06/2017 22:50

Hello all, such terrible news today :(

Have been out at work but did manage to sneak into the city centre after work and swap some uniform my mum had bought for DDs which was the wrong size so am glad to have achieved that. Just sitting down now to do my hour's decluttering - sorting through the uniforms. Rock and roll.

Hope your DD's exam went ok SC. How miserable to have period pains for it.

CotswoldStrife · 14/06/2017 23:27

Not much of value to report here today, washing up is done and the dishwasher has been run, emptied and loaded again. DD improving (but still mainlining Calpol).

The news has certainly been grim Sad

Sanscollier · 15/06/2017 00:18

The summary for Thursday 15 June is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 15 for Thurs 15 June is here. Add bed-making to your daily routines.

We are in Zone 3 this week: The Bathroom and One Extra Room here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 3 (if you are at that stage) is here.

Thursday's mission is: here. Scrub the bathroom sink, taps and counter tops. In the other room; go and do a little more intensive decluttering.

The daily focus for Thursday is running errands.

The monthly habit in June is drinking water.

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Remember everyone: you can't clean or organise clutter - so don't try - just get rid of it! And one of these days, I will try and follow my own advice Grin Wink

Hey all; quite a day today. Hope all ailing dc and adult fledglings start feeling better soon.

I hope the new inhaler works for your dd Mumontherun you must both be exhausted. Thanks for all the kind words about dd and exams. She somehow managed, by some miracle, to ace exam but pain got worse and turns out it wasn't period pain; took dd to doctors - ended up in a & e tonight with paracetemol drip. Back home having had multitude of tests done. Exhausted now, g'night all! Hope kittens ok Zoo and guessing you are from E Mids Rosa using "mardy" vernacular Grin Glad dd getting better Cotswold and well done re: decluttering Cag and for continuing decluttering Toostressy. I totally sympathise BluePheasant my dh is not affected by surroundings either but clutter and mess really gets me down; never need to apologise for venting!! Mermaids and Foxes good to hear you have been enjoying some good quality family time. Sleep well Einstein and Rosa* and everyone else!

Haha sc I certainly do! I forget when posting on social media about different sayings, I referred to my dd2 cutting a tooth by announcing that she had got her first 'teggie' , which lead to a lot of ??????? Haha

Shopping day today , our diet hasn't been great lately, it's an area that needs a lot of improvement, but I don't know where to start. Has anyone got any advice ? We have after school clubs during the week , so teas have to either be prepared beforehand and quick to cook, or cooked beforehand, then warmed through. I am relying heavily on scrambled egg , omelette, beans and spaghetti on toast Blush only when they've had school dinners (which is most days) I used to cook all sorts but I'm out of the habit. Any advice, meal ideas, good books/websites to look at would be greatly appreciated Smile

To do
Finish my cuppa (a must after dd2 decided that 12-3am is a new playtime Hmm
Daily routine
My usuals (15mins ironing & putting clothes away)
15 mins on the bathroom
Shopping list
Shopping
2 x wash
Hoover through downstairs
Work this evening

foxessocks · 15/06/2017 06:42

Morning everyone, I'm so tired this morning, ds is sleeping much better at the moment but last night he was up from 1.30-2.30 and then up for they day at 5.30 and I was just starting to get used to a bit more sleep so now I feel pretty awful! On a positive note dh has made me a coffee and DS has now gone back to sleep so I'm going to have a rest for a bit anyway, I can't go back to sleep as I'll end up crying when I get woken back up again!!

Rosabella spaghetti/eggs/beans on toast sounds totally fine to me if they've had school dinners! Maybe a piece of fruit for pudding for some added vitamin c? I definitely wouldn't stress about it but I know that's easier said than done! What about pasta , you could make a home made tomato sauce with veg blended in in advance? Or something like fajitas / tacos as they are really quick and you could put veg like peppers and mushrooms in them and serve with salad. Trying to think of some more ideas for you but brain isn't quite functioning yet! What about a slow cooker so it can be ready when you get home? I must admit I haven't used mine for a while but they can be useful.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 15/06/2017 07:20

I need a productive day. Anyone want coffee
Enjoy.

Cagliostro · 15/06/2017 08:28

So tired this morning! Yesterday evening wasn't too bad, we tried a community cafe for dinner after DD's gym club, it's a waste preventing thing - seeing all that food piled up (some cooked with and some that you could take home) knowing normally it would ALL be in the bin! Even though it was fine!

No tidying managed but I did manage a slightly better bedtime for the Caglets and stuck the dryer on.

Off on a home ed trip today, need to get my butt in gear! Tired but hopefully lots of fresh air will help!

mermaidsandunicorns · 15/06/2017 09:35

SC

You did confuse me then! Grin I would make the worst nurse ever

Rosabellajames · 15/06/2017 09:43

I've got a slow cooker fox but always found things really watery, I know some people love theirs but I never really got on with it, it's collecting dust in the cupboard Blush maybe I'll have to give it another go. I do make pasta sauce and freeze it, I think I need to find a spot in my routine to organise food.

Ds1 lost a tooth at school

Accidentally hoovered it up whilst cleaning Confused
Had to pick through the dyson to retrieve it

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 15/06/2017 18:33

mermaids It is tales like this that made me so glad that ds was never ever going to be convinced by the tooth fairy and I didn't have to go through it. Do feel like I missed out on being able to create magic for him so I guess it balances out.

Rosabellajames · 15/06/2017 21:36

einstein do let me know how you get on with it, I'm tempted to give slow cooking another go.

Haha mermaid glad you managed to find it !!

Managed to do everything on my list today woohoo!! I've got a few socks to pair up and a couple of bits that was leftover after my 15 mins ironing, but it can wait until tomorrow now. Cuppa and bed for me soon !!

A friend made a comment about the house earlier in the week, it was completely in jest, but I'm ultra sensitive about it at the moment because I'm putting so much effort into getting it back into a home. Had a chat to oh about it and he's told me to look at what's been achieved so far, rather than how much more there is to do. So, every Friday, I'm going to list what's been achieved that week, just to try and tell the part of my brain that keeps beating me down, that we are moving forward, slowly but surely.

mermaidsandunicorns · 15/06/2017 22:04

einstein he's 10 so I think he's got wise but still enjoys the dance if that makes sense

Such lovely weather today long may it stay

CotswoldStrife · 15/06/2017 22:52

Thought we had done well with DD, a whole day without calpol but she seems to have lost her voice! Hope she is OK tomorrow!

I have just filled in a questionnaire/survey for a blog I read and put 'motiviation for maintenance' as the answer to one question about what I need help with! I know I need to keep going but some days that is really hard!
