Fledglings cocoon, we're Flying in June ... .

Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

If i drink any more water i am going to turn into a fish!
But knowing my luck my ability to sleep would be just as shit.

Rosabellajames · 11/06/2017 09:36

I'm rubbish at remembering to drink water! Must try to make more effort! I didn't get much done yesterday, just a general tidy round and a load of washing. It'll probably be the same today but there's been lots of progress made this week, so as long as the house doesn't get any worse, weekends will hopefully just be family time.

I'm going to do the landing this week as the extra room, I battled on with the dining room last time, but it's starting to resemble a dining room again now so I'll leave it until we hit that zone again.

Do any of you actually use a 'control journal'? I have been using an 16 pad that I carry everywhere with me now. I write my daily lists in it, shopping lists, if I've made any appointments but I don't have my diary with me, or if one of the mums want to arrange a playdate. Gift ideas on planning days etc, my memory is horrendous since having dd2 - the insomniac Velcro baby, so it helps to write everything down. I just have to flick through the pages if I forget something. Wondered how you try to manage things?

I'm going to look at the morning and evening routines again to see if I can tweek my routines to make them work better.

Hope everyone has a fabulous Sunday!!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 11/06/2017 16:36

Hi all, sorry have been AWOL. Can't post on my mobile and sometimes can't see any threads at all Angry. Looking at a thread in site stuff it seems others are struggling too.

Don't get onto the laptop much so just logged on quickly to post this then will be back once mobile site running properly again.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 11/06/2017 17:28

Just woken up Blush
I have a squared note book. It lists everything i need to do down the sides, days across the top. If I plan to do something I put a dot in the box for the task on the day I plan to do it. When it is done I put a cross over the dot. New things get added at the bottom of the list (often several pages later. It seems to be working ok ish for me. tbh nothing works when life gets as batshit crazy as it did last week As it is a new system i am interested to see how it works going forwards. My memory is also shit.

stressy - boo hiss for broken mobile apps

SC hope you are having a good few days away from MN

ta da

foxessocks · 12/06/2017 07:02

Morning all, hope everyone is well! Thanks for the links Cotswold I think I'll try and declutter the office / spare room this week as the desk in there is slowly disappearing under paperwork.

Ds slept from 7pm until 615 last night with just on wake up for a feed at 11.30pm! Feeling pretty happy with that tbh! He fell back to sleep at 6.15 as well so I crept downstairs thinking I'd have a coffee in peace as dd still asleep too but came back upstairs to find him wide awake! Typical!

Afreshstartplease · 12/06/2017 07:21

Testing ....

Afreshstartplease · 12/06/2017 07:22

Thank fuck for that!

Mobile site not working here either

I've just managed to post through desktop site on my mobile, hopefully these issues get fixed today!

BluePheasant · 12/06/2017 08:09

Morning everyone! Am so far behind now, it's ridiculous! Has made me realise how much the little routines were really helping!

DDs birthday was yesterday, had a great time. House was a bombsite by the time everyone left Grin

Have basically had over 2 weeks of not getting anything done. Away on holiday one week then last week was spent decorating and preparing for DDs birthday. I need to get back on the wagon and get things under control!

Washing and ironing pile is the biggest it's been for years, so the main task is getting on top of that. Going to need a lot of cups of tea today!

BluePheasant · 12/06/2017 08:10

Oh and new carpet has been done and looks really good, such a transformation!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 12/06/2017 08:51

Unfortunately ime this is a common problem with trophies for kids and keeping a stock of the glue in the backhand will save your sanity in the future.

Also ta da

Cagliostro · 12/06/2017 18:45

Achieved nothing today bar surviving. Was up at 3.45 so needed a big nap. Assessment went ok but need further time so no answer yet, she also said DD needs to see an Ed Psych about possible learning difficulties as whether or not she has autism, she has cognitive problems too :(

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/06/2017 18:48

Hello all. I think I can post again Smile. Had a busy few days and just sitting now with a coffee while DDs watch a programme.

Ta da:-
DD1 homework
DD2 parents evening at preschool - they were really helpful and said that she was fine there but were happy to help with anything the parenting class recommends. She kicked off a bit while we were there and tbh it was good for them to see it.
Had a lovely (rare for after school!) time dancing around the kitchen with DDs after school as I we tidied up Smile.
Went for run earlier
Laundry under control

To do:-
Bath and bedtime
Decluttering of some paperwork
If time look at school uniform for DD2

Have been really trying to do an hour's decluttering every day by going to bed an hour later. Not sure what Flylady would say about that but actually I have been picking stuff I can declutter easily in front of the telly and have quite enjoyed the peace and quiet Smile. Can't see an obvious difference yet but am so sick of the clutter I need to try.

Big wing flaps to all Brew.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/06/2017 18:48

Sorry Cag, xpost. BrewCake

mumontherun14 · 12/06/2017 18:56

To dos
Catch up with washing
Find out where I should be on the routine s

Xxxx

foxessocks · 12/06/2017 20:45

Hope your DC better soon mumontherun

Toostressy well done on the decluttering! I guess if you're doing it in front of TV and no children around it is fairly relaxing at least!

Cag that all sounds exhausting hope you're okay Flowers

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 12/06/2017 21:10

Imo the fat fairy can shove her early night nonsense where the sun don't shine. If 1 hour helps you get progress and doesn't tire you too much it is worth it in the long run

Cag sounds like an exhausting day.

Mum whooping cough is miserable hope the littlies get improve soon.
