Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Ta da:-
Parenting class was good Smile. Ca't day I learned anything yet as it was just a getting to know you but everyone is lovely.
Phone interview went well and they want me to freelance for them Smile - not perfect as hours not ideal but is another option and definitely worth signing into their books

To do:-
Get DD2 from preschool
Tidy house as much as she lets me

Rosabellajames · 09/06/2017 21:29

I have no ironing pile, it's Friday and the kids already have uniforms ironed and in the wardrobe ready for Monday - woohoo!! Plus, I've survived going back to work, it took a lot of effort to put the ironing board up after an evening at work but I'm so glad I did! I can manage 15 minutes a day easily, especially if it means not standing there on a Sunday evening trying to get the uniforms sorted.

mermaidsandunicorns · 09/06/2017 22:30

Evening all

I had a reasonably productive day today. I tackled two areas of clutter that have been festering.
Made a beef and onion pie from scratch. I found the hairy bikers recipe for pastry and I'm never looking back gone are my dry crumbly pastry days!
Currently ploughing through ironing

I hadn't scrolled down enough and read June's monthly habit as "drinking". Grin

I have a beer open now so am doing flying...

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/06/2017 22:56

Purple Grin.

Well I have not managed to put away any of the laundry and there are quite a few piles of stuff but I am done. Think I was pretty productive today given my long to do lists, also managed 5 mins decluttering. Going to sit in bed now and watch Bad Moms which I have been meaning to watch for years!

PurpleDaisies · 09/06/2017 23:00

I forgot to post any ta da's...

My classroom is slowly getting organised and I binned loads of junk
Dishwasher has been on
Email admin
Long nap after staying up too late for election
Quick living room tidy
Went to chip shop
Decluttered beer

I really should be in the naughty corner...

Sanscollier · 09/06/2017 23:00

Glad to hear the parenting class went better than anticipated Toostressy!! Smile And congrats on freelance work!

Mermaids Star for tackling festering clutter piles!

Sounds as though you did really well despite lack of motivation Rosa [wish I could say the same thing Blush]

I'm with you on the deadline project going absymally Einstein mine is too. Glad to hear you got some rest though.

Is it wrong to Grin at "craftermath" Cotswold? Hope you dd feels better soon.

[Whinge follows, feel free to ignore]
Had loads of plans at start of week to tackle various things while dh was away but found this week hard going for some reason and in the end just went in to "plod on until he gets back" mode which is pathetic really. Not helped by dd being ill. And oh joy, dh has announced tonight that he will be leaving again on Sunday morning. Gah.

Managed a bit of hoovering and kitchen maintenance tonight but other than that, house a bit of a wreck really and I CBA to do anything about it.

Right you lovely lot I need some serious motivation this weekend!

Managed to do a few bits last night before bed - washed some but not all pots, did two wash loads, dried one load, cleaned out pets and emptied one bin. But TBH it's barely made a dent

Do people find it more affective to stay doing one room rather than do bits here and there?

Ta Da

Dryer reloaded
Washer reloaded

To Do

EVERYTHING

PurpleDaisies · 10/06/2017 09:04

Do people find it more affective to stay doing one room rather than do bits here and there?

It depends-is there one room that's worse? I tend to make a list, set the timer and start off with whatever's worst/most urgent and carry on. I find if I stay in one room that ends up perfect but nothing else gets done.

sans sometimes you just have to go into plod and manage survival mode. It must be tough when you're on your own.

I've got a nice day planned but could really do with getting some stuff done as well. Dh is out so I'm reading in bed at the moment and really should start.

Ta da
Fed guinea pigs

Whole weekend to do
Washing
Washing up (a week's worth of non dishwasher stuff)
Sort out work bag
Make a chocolate tart
Tax return
Weed killing/garden tidying up
Clean out guinea pigs
Planning for Monday
Sign practice
Wash table mats
Mini food shop
Drawer of random crap

Cagliostro · 10/06/2017 09:55

No housework motivation here at all. Out later for a science event. Don't want to stay in! Definitely feeling less sick now but still very tired and foot still hurts. Hmm

Super proud of my DS (7) as two days in a row another parent (one home ed mum at rock climbing, one at the playground I'd never met before) have come up to me to say how lovely he is and how he looked after their DDs so kindly :)

mermaidsandunicorns · 10/06/2017 10:00

afresh
I always make a mental list of things I need to do and do them a little bit at a time.
I'm going to do upstairs today so il sort all the laundry then will spend a serious bit of time with a bin bag and cleaning stuff in my sons room

Sanscollier · 10/06/2017 10:41

Good morning all!

Afreshstart you did seriously well to do all that after you had come back last night Flowers and I'm sure it made a definite dent even though it didn't seem like it ifyswim Smile.

I drift from room to room while cleaning and tidying which is probably where I am going wrong. I usually start with kitchen and bathroom though as I feel quite depressed if those are scuzzy; and I can't concentrate on cleaning the rest unless kitchen and bathroom are at a reasonable standard. Have to confess, I am not too bothered about the rest though, although deliberately keep sitting/dining rooms pretty empty (although probably pretty cluttery compared to most people's definition of empty) so they can be brought back to civilisation relatively easily which explains why other floors are full of crap and- - a total mess--.

Glad the pregnancy nausea is easing Cag and have a lovely time at the science museum. Take it steady. And a big Star and bravo to your ds for being so kind!!

Thanks Purple I am totally used to dh being away, and no problem on my own with dd who is older/more independent now, it's just I have come to loathe more and more the lack of control I have over dh's constantly changing schedule. It means I have to constantly change my plans to the extent that I stop making them a lot of the tiem. Dh maintains that he doesn't have much control over it either though [control]. Good luck with your list, particularly BRC!!

Waves to Mermaids and everyone else!

I must go and peer in to the wm now. I totally lost my "laundry rhythm" last week to the extent I am not entirely sure what is lurking down there Blush

OP posts:
YesEinsteinsMumDid · 10/06/2017 11:45

"here motivation, here motitivattion"
Nope no motivation here.

I have the attention span of a flea, when i tidy up I am every where all at once. Pretty much literally. Unless there is one room that must be done or is particularly bugging me but even then I don't stay completely focused on one room. My only motivational tool used to be a crap ton of coffee but these days it doesn't work as caffiene gives me migraines if i am not careful.

My body has developed a new fun way of processing stress. It is leaving me all distracted and not focusing Hmm which is not good because I only managed to get the project half done yesterday and I really have to focus knuckle down and just get this project done.

Ds was fab last night, he cooked me tea and put himself to bed so that I could get as much done as possible. He has had brunch of chocolate pancakes and danced about the kitchen with me this morning after letting me have a lie in. He even tidied his room last night because I said it was on the to do list for today Shock it is currently covered in lego but its fine because he is having fun and it is keeping him happily busy whilst I project wrestle Hmm

Right sod the house work 100 pages to construct, 200 to proof, and then the book to assemble in order....
sent vodka ... or manpower -not picky

Rosabellajames · 10/06/2017 13:57

toostressy I found doing a bit of everything works well. I have certain things I want to get on top of which I'm using an hour on Wednesdays to do. Then adding an amount of time on a daily / every other day basis so i stay on top on that task. 1st it was washing (I've found 2 loads a day works for me) next was ironing (still experimenting with time but 15 mins seems to be ample, some days I'll have things left over but it'll catch up on the days I don't have much) , next its putting clothes away, then selling the bags of clothes I've got in the bedroom, then paperwork. It's going to be a slow process but little and often seems to be working for me. I've been following the daily & zone tasks as best as I can and try to keep on top of what I've achieved. E.g. The entrance hall, I now make sure all the shoes are back in the box and all the coats are hung back up as part of my evening routine- 30 second job, but if it's not done, the area becomes cluttered again, then when I come back to that zone, I'll be going over old ground rather than moving forwards if that makes sense? My routine is building slowly, I used to try and do 1 task until it was completed, but then the rest of the house ended up a tip, so I'm trying a new approach- fingers crossed it works , there's got to be a better way than how I used to do it.

mermaidsandunicorns · 10/06/2017 16:33

I have been on it like sonic today

Tadas

Dishwasher loaded and put on
Merlets breakfasted
Downstairs hoovered
Downstairs mopped
Dusted
Windows cleaned (I let ds2 do this which may or may not have been a good idea)
Stairs hoovered
Merlets bedrooms completely cleaned (3 bin bags of crap and one mouldy mug chucked out)
All clothes put away
2 loads of laundry done
Roast dinner in oven
Paddling pool finally put away
My bedroom dusted and hoovered

Just need to do bathrooms and put fresh linen on my bed and I am done
Taking boys to church film club tonight if I have any energy to walk there

foxessocks · 10/06/2017 19:13

Today didn't turn out quite as relaxing as I'd hoped after my tart filling split and I had to go out and buy more ingredients. I was trying to wash up and heat up the cream at the same time and the bloody thing got ruined. I've come to the conclusion that washing up needs to happen more regularly and was in a right grump after that.

This evening has been nice. I took the chocolate tart to a friend's house for prosecco and puddings for a birthday which was just lovely. I'm knackered and feeling like I've got a cold now so considering not setting the alarm tomorrow.

It sounds like everyone has had productive days too. Hopefully Sunday wil actually be a day of rest!

Whole weekend to do...
Washing
Washing up (a week's worth of non dishwasher stuff)
Sort out work bag
Make a chocolate tart
Tax return
Weed killing/garden tidying up
Clean out guinea pigs

Wash table mats

Drawer of random crap
bought petrol
