Fledglings cocoon, we're Flying in June ... .

Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

I think my "do what we can" today is "get through it" :o another crazy Thursday. Thankfully it's no longer every Thursdays that will be this busy, as we've swapped one of DD's activities (actually it's mainly because of the girl who's been bullying her but it's a welcome side effect that the new club is on a different day!).

But today feels insurmountable as for the first time in fuck knows how long DH is on a day shift rather than a late so he's already left, I've only managed 4hrs sleep so I'm knackered already, and I have to fit in a walk to the polling station and back (up hill). Just glad the different shift means DH can cover dinner and bedtime tonight!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 08/06/2017 09:02

Potentially have to attend the polling station twice. It's the perks of proxy vote holding. Hmm Hopefully the day runs smooth and the owner of the vote can cast it themselves. It would make the day go so much smoother

Today it is work on big project with deadline, take people to and from hospital appointments, and feel miserable as I have some sort of infection and am losing my voice and it is sore to breathe as a result.

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/06/2017 09:31

Got up.surveyed the mess. Cried...

I need to pull up my big girl pants and get a hood if myself and the deteriorating bearpit surrounding me

Problems with dd2(she got caught up at school with girls truanting (she was checking her music lesson time but girls in question decide say she was with them as they got in trouble. Her bf then believe her to be in trouble and wouldn't speak to her and told hwr .they are not allowed even speak each other so dd2 has no one to talk too))have drained me and depressions kicking in badly. She has HPV today and first one left her colour of a beet for 3days(sigh)

One day my life will be easier maybe

Rosabellajames · 08/06/2017 09:53

dd2 decided not to sleep last night! We saw every single hour, OH offered to take over about 430 so I could at least get an hour before the alarm went off at 6. Not sure whats happening, whether its teeth, that she didn't poop yesterday or that she's so close to walking and talking, her brains in overdrive at night, because we have been back to dreadful sleeps for just over a week now. I really hope she will learn to sleep soon !

zoo hows your kitten this morning? I hope your dd is ok, school is so hard at times.

cag sorry your daughters having a hard time, kids can be very cruel!

Ta da

Kitchen cleared and wiped

Finish my very strong sweet coffee!

15 mins ironing
I probably should try and wipe out the fridge before shopping

Something off the cleaning list

Rosabellajames · 08/06/2017 09:54

oh and I still need to do s&s

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/06/2017 10:01

Right I've had breakfast and hooking up my big girl pants and getting to work

Sanscollier · 08/06/2017 11:43

Afternoon all! (Well it is here.) Just returned from a truly scintillating visit to a show room to attend a demonstration in three languages about eco water filtration units Hmm and yes, worthy though it was, I did want to saw off my own head after the first 10 mins Grin

Tis a deterorating bear pit here too! [Is it bad that I simply CBA to do anything about it atm??!! Decided I will have a mahoosive clear up tomorrow before dh gets back!!]

Brew to everyone who is struggling this morning/atm.

I didn't sleep well again (never do when dh is away) but dd, bless her, was up and about very early and organised this morning which made the seat of the pants school drive a lot less stressful Smile.

Rosa sorry about your non-existent night's sleep. And Star Halo for catching up with the ironing pile!! Do let us know if the daily 15/20 min ironing regime is enough to keep on top of the ironing mountain please! (I have never been consistent enough with it to find out!! Blush Grin) Hope you and your dd2 get more rest tonight!

Zoo Hope kitten a bit better and that your dd2 doesn't have a bad reaction to HPV2. And sympathies over friendship issues which I know from experience can be v stressful.

Good luck with getting through your day Einstein whilst feeling rough [proffers hot lemon drink]

Take it steady (well as steady as poss in circs) Cag Flowers You can only do what you can do.

Enthusiastic waves back to PurpleDaisies sounds as though you and your dh have some good team work going on there! Hope you can manage to find some down time too after such a busy period at work.

Toostressy/Cag As for wasting time on Mumsnet, yes, I agree, I know we all do it too much me probably more than most but I am certain in many cases it has replaced other things such as tv watching, book/newspaper/magazine reading- rather than doing it in addition to those things ifyswim. Helps me keep in touch with the UK vibe too (well that's my excuse and I am sticking to it!) which is important on days like today!

Speaking of which, keep safe while voting everyone!

But as for Mumsnetting, I need to follow Honu's example (esteemed Fledgling member since year dot) who sticks to 15 mins Mumsnetting a day! An impressive feat! But I don't think I am sufficiently disciplined though!

Waves to Foxes and to everyone else I have missed!

Mermaids any news of job? Fingers and toes crossed for you!

You have not scared anyone off Zoo
I have done 1x hospital runs
picked up some food shopping
failed to pick up slow cooker wanted

I have not even booted up the computer with the project on it. I have a headache and feel like sobbing in a corner. Life has got to the point where it is too much.

Instead I am going to make a cheese and lettice wrap, eat it and then head off to vote and sort ds' med collection out.

Then i will have to figure out extra voting trips, hospital runs, ds, tea without a cooker.... etc etc etc. later.

mermaidsandunicorns · 08/06/2017 16:34

I didn't get the councillor position. 9 people applied for two positions but they did say all applicants were worthy councillor material and there is another vacancy coming up due to a resignation so they've asked me to reapply so not all bad.

Work day today

Voted labour
I live in a fairly safe Tory seat Hmm and our MP has been a bit controversial shes an awful witch

Go and vote if you haven't had chance peeps

foxessocks · 08/06/2017 19:12

I took my two as well. We know the polling clerk and she always gives the boys a bag of haribo. Ds1 also put himself forward for head boy yesterday mega proud of him for that. He asked ds2 if he would vote for him but he said no Shock

PurpleDaisies · 08/06/2017 19:24

My daytime posting days are over due to work so honestly nothing personal. I had a really fun day which was nice after a stressful period.

I really wanted take away tonight but stood firm. We've had oven food but that must be better. There was salad which is something I guess.

I'm not sure much useful is getting done apart from loading the dishwasher. I have been to vote though.

Sorry to hear about the job *mermaids". I'm sure something better will come up and it's encouraging that they've asked you to reapply.

sans dh is brilliant. I had cfs for years and couldn't do anything so he used to do all the cooking and cleaning. I'm really glad we can split it now.

BluePheasant · 08/06/2017 21:20

This week is killing me! have just been non stop since we got home on sat. I want to stay up and watch some do the election coverage but doubt my eyes will stay open long enough!
We are in a marginal constituency, was v close last time, lets hope we got it right this time!

I can't keep up with thread atm but hello to everyone Grin

Sorry about councillor position mermaids, but definitely positive that they want you to apply for next post Smile

Flying done - zero
Ironing pile - horrific
Fridge - depressingly empty

Really hoping after DDs birthday on Sunday We will get back on track!
New carpet going down on stairs and landing tomorrow, will be transformation, has looked grottyfor years. There will be no shoes on walking on it and no clutter left on it (I give it 3 days max HmmGrin)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 08/06/2017 21:28

Sanscollier · 08/06/2017 23:41

Good morning all! Not much sleep had here as dd has stomach bug/virus thing.

And what a night (politically speaking). Worried (from a neutral point of view) that things are not looking particularly strong and stable from this side of the Channel.

Meant to say last night that all of your lists put me to shame yesterday. You all soldiered on really stoically despite it being hard going so cheers to fledgling resilience Brew Flowers Star

Well done Zoo thrice over for getting on the big girls pants and getting through so much work!! Ditto Foxes - I need to do the same today.

Yay to supportive husbands Purple! Good to hear you had some much deserved r & r yesterday!

Well done for making it through a difficult day Cag

Hope deadline work going ok Einstein

Good luck with your challenging morning Toostressy . Agree "anticipatory stress" is a thing in v real sense (sorry, not being v eloquent this morning!) and is v draining. Btw, I would try that book from the library first as it contains more supper recipes than after school snacks, although the latter are good ifsywim.

Good luck with the carpet laying BluePheasant hope not too stressful.

Mermaids good luck for the start of your ds2's political career Wink Smile hope he wins the election!

Good luck with your first night back at work Rosa.

Right, having to change plans around a bit with dd home today. I may actually have to do some cleaning Confused.

CotswoldStrife · 09/06/2017 10:21

Meh, well behind here - DD was off school sick yesterday and there is a considerable amount of craftermath to clear up from the start of costume production for various dress-up days/productions. I suspect coffee will be my friend today Brew and will pass it around for anyone else who needs it.

CotswoldStrife · 09/06/2017 10:22

Oh, just to add that I am waiting in for a delivery today as well - should have texted last night to give us a two hour delivery slot but noooo ....
