Welcome to the May 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions
And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Morning all Brew. Still have croaky voice and sore throats which I am hoping DDs don't take advantage of too much! DH out and we actually don't have dancing this morning so lazy morning so far. Going to make a cup of coffee then try to get on while I can.

Ta da:-
Crawled out of bed
Put a toy cake stand away!
Managed to get rid of a small box of craft things which we will never make and just sit there tormenting me.

To do:-
Morning routine
Take recycling out
Breakfast etc
Strip beds if get round to it
Sort out stuff to take to friends

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/05/2017 08:05

Sore throat. I only have one throats as far as I know!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/05/2017 08:05

FFS I give up Grin.

Cagliostro · 13/05/2017 08:19

:o

Afreshstartplease · 13/05/2017 08:24

Ah dear stressy

I hope all your throats feel better soon Flowers

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 13/05/2017 10:51

stressy make up some jelly but drink it warm, it will help with the sore throat.

My need to do list: The whole fucking house.
My probably will get done to do list: Pretend everything is fine.
My real to do list: who knows....

Slurrycart · 13/05/2017 11:39

Rural greetings to everyone! Quick catch up:

Einstein my late ma always warned me off eating warm jelly for fear it would set in my stomach; er so I guess that's not true then Grin And arf at your alternative to do lists! (Second option is the one I resort to most often.)

Rosa poor you; what a terrible week you have had! Here's hoping the next one is better! And great that you managed to declutter in the midst of everything going awry! Flowers Fingers crossed that your dd is ok for her trip!

I shouldn't be giving advice on oven clean as mine is a disgrace atm, but when I do eventually get around to it, I have found this to work really well on mine. As for stove top (ours is stainless steel) I bung all the stuff that is loose in the dw from time to time and then clean the top with plain washing up liq and warm water, followed by industrial vinegar, followed by a tiny blob of olive oil once dry to make it shine. I am sure others on here will have better tips/advice.

Toostressy Grin hope you feel better soon!

Afreshstart Star for ta das and for knocking everything back in to shape

Hope you had a reasonable night Foxes!

SC maybe you were just too fond of jelly and she had to come up with some excuse to get it left alone enough so 1. you didn't burn yourself and 2. it was allowed to set Grin
Also modern in a packet just add water jelly is not the same as the old fashioned made with real gelatine and takes fooking hours jelly of the oldern days. We just use the cheap morrison own brand jelly crystals. Perfect for allergy boy when he gets sore throats.

Banoffee pie base is in the fridge...
I have cried over the sock pile of doom and then promptly put it in the naughty corner for a bit.
Trying to gain enough motivation to get stuff done. Motivation is not here but i might treat myself to a trip to ikea later if I can manage to get enough tamed.

Knowing there is an entire month infested craft room to deal with zapps the motivation.

Slurrycart · 13/05/2017 12:42

Yes Einstein reckon that must have been it! Funnily enough dd (and Eng friends) go wild over "English jelly" but her school friends think sweet jellies are abhorrent and wierd. We have to order it in specially from the UK via Amazon as a rare treat! We still have the old fashioned type from Rowntrees which come in glutinous squares. Haven't encountered the new style; but it's a while since we've ordered any!

Ditto over sock pile of doom and motivation in general. Have a list as long as my arm waiting for me at home (and a bathroom to clean here). It's all so very tedious. In the meantime though, I am about to have a driving lesson on a very old and battered second-hand mini farm vehicle thing.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Cotswold btw - I hope your dd was able to go ahead with her activity last night - and wasn't too disappointed if not.

OMG i have just realised that if the sodding moths like hiding in dark spaces behind stuff I am going to have to disassemble the book cases to clean/get rid of then bastarding things.

Get key cut for ds.... but he is still my baby how? just how? is he old enough to need this?!

Cagliostro · 13/05/2017 13:22

Oooh warm jelly! I still have a dodgy throat, I'm going to ask DH to get some jelly cubes from work :o

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 13/05/2017 13:34

I have just read about the farm vehicle. Please will you get some alpacs and sheep so we can come pet them... Grin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/05/2017 20:35

The summary for Sunday 14th May is available on the Flylady website [[http://www.flylady.net/ here under "Today"]] and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no 14 for Sun 14th is here and concerns using a calendar (yes I know it sounds patronising, but it's worth a quick look).

Tomorrow will be our first day in Zone 3 (if you do zone work at weekends that is) : The Main Bathroom and One Extra Room (May 14-20) here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage and do zone work at weekends) for Zone 3 is here.

No missions for Sunday because it is the weekend - yay!

The daily focus for Sunday is renewing your spirit or just doing something for yourself which helps you to feel chilled.

The monthly habit is moving in May!.

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Have a lovely Sunday eveyrone!

Bugger, that's the back of Zone 2 and I still haven't done the cutlery drawer! Oh well, there is always June and I suppose one or two missions a month it is better than nowt! I very rarely do all four. Very much need to sort tupperware boxes and lids (have bought a Sharpie!) too now I am constantly transporting food back and forth too. I guess I will get to that next month too.

Cag it sounds as though you have the same bug as I did; there are a lot of horrid ones about atm which linger for ages. Take it steady. (And you too Toostressy and everyone else who is feeling below par!)

G'night all!

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 13/05/2017 21:05

Thanks sc yes am annoyed it's still lingering. Nausea back today as well so the combination is making me gag a lot consequently have been on the sofa all day.

Eurovision in full swing

Slurrycart · 13/05/2017 21:23

You poor thing Cag! Sounds awful. If it's any consolation, it does eventually go, but the sore throat bit keeps bouncing back for about a week before it finally disappears. Dh is still working unfortunately for him and I can't face Eurovision somehow this year; so dd and I are binge watching Anne with an E on Netflix instead!

Just catching up and this thread has made me roar!

I have come up against a younger version of myself in that DD is interested in politics. I have threatened to make her read the party manifesto docs if she lectures me on the green party again she only likes the logo DH was surprised that I didn't take a keen interest in the last election but it looks like I'm getting a second chance at that now Grin

DD was a poor sleeper for years. It was grim. She is better now, there is hope.

DD went on a playdate instead of the activity, it has been rescheduled - I did feel sorry for the children that couldn't make it (the playdate) at short notice though.

After being in pain for the last couple of weeks, DD has now gone down with a bad cold. She has something on tomorrow which will be tricky with a runny nose but we'll see how it goes. We have calpol and the nose drops again.

DD announced tonight that she wanted to watch Eurovision, but I managed to escape to a supermarket and avoid a large part of it. We dug out her flags and she duly waved them for the UK entry (which was well sung, to be fair) although even from the small amount I did see, the winner wasn't the obvious choice.

Does running the dishwasher count as flying 'cos it may be the only bit I did today (or yesterday, as it's now past the witching hour).

Always tomorrow ...
