Welcome to the May 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions
And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Welcome duds

Morning everyone. Sympathies to everyone who is struggling. My baby ds is up twice a night at the moment but I am really craving just one decent night's sleep! Have woken up with stomach ache this morning too and have already argued with dh because I am tired and grumpy. I've taken myself back up to bed and left dh with a whinging baby so feeling bad about that.

To do
Daily routine
20 mins exercise
Ironing
Dust bedroom furniture
Tidy / declutter porch

Rosabellajames · 01/05/2017 09:21

I'm glad there's a few of us with mash potato brains!

zoo it took me ages to get dd1 to get up at 6, she liked between 4-5am for years, my solution was a digital clock when she was old enough to recognise numbers and said to her she could get up for the day after 4.05, then pushed it forward by a few minutes every few weeks until we got to 6 which I think is an ok time to get up. I always asked what time she woke up and wouldn't push it forward until she was waking up just before the time. It reset her body clock in a nice gentle way, rather than moaning that she got up too early.

Tadas
Morning routine
Sink is shining
Kitchen sides are clean and buffed

To do
Attempt the tasks of today (although I'm sure it'll take more than 10 mins a task)
15mins decluttering the entrance
Coats & shoes
10 mins tidying the bookcase in the dining room
Iron the school uniform
Roast dinner

We'll see what happens, it seems a long list Shock

BluePheasant · 01/05/2017 09:34

Morning!
Definitely going to be a flop day here. DD started a horrible dry cough in the night and I couldn't get back to sleep at all. Think I have been awake since about 3.30am Sad DD doesn't seem too bad now, v sniffly and a temp though. We're still sat in bed, will drag myself up after this cup of tea.

Torrential rain outside, good ol British bank holiday Grin we have the Moana DVD which DD still hasn't watched so will put that on later.

Welcome Rosa and dudsville SmileBrew

Afternoon everyone; shame about rainy bank holiday and Brew and Gin for those experiencing broken nights.

A warm welcome to Dudsville! We need someone with your expertise on here! Smile

Back from wreck2: sorry for lack of personals but dh has ants in his pants and is insisting on going in to office to deal with steaming pile of poo (not literally, it's in e-mail form!) so I am designated driver tonight for taking dd to singing rehearsal (and waiting around) and then must do some cooking/washing for week ahead so going to post links for Tues now and catch up tomorrow!

Hope system making sense to newcomers! If not, don't hesitate to ask qs!

The summary for Tuesday 2nd May (available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan, which should update daily, can be found here ).

Baby-step no 2 for Tuesday 2nd May is here. It's the controversial one about getting dressed and doing make-up/hair and putting on lace up shoes as soon as you get up in the morning. Some of us do and some of us don't but newcomers, here is the reasoning behind it.

We will be working in Zone 1 this week (April 30 - May 6): The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering in the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 1 is here.

Tuesday's mission is here. Sweep porch, shake out doormats, wipe down front door.

The daily focus for Tuesday is planning ... menus, hair appts, medical appts, holidays, holiday childcare etc etc.

The monthly habit for May is moving in May! .

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Have a good evening everyone!

Thanks rosa she's not doing too bad, just having a lazy day Smile

toostressy watched Moana this morning, we loved it! And great to see a Disney film where the main female character doesn't need rescuing!

Ta das

x2 loads washing drying on electric airer
Last weeks mission of thinning out the nic nacs
Reorganised shelves in hallway
Chucked out a half dead house plant Blush
DH has taken some stuff from the porch to the garage - our porch has a very annoying tendency to start becoming an extension of the garage Hmm

To dos

Tidy up resulting mess from clearing out hallway
Tidy our bedroom
Package eBay items

mumontherun14 · 01/05/2017 16:13

Place marking! Thanks for the new thread. Just back from a camping trip which was lovely but hard to get back into the zone. 2 loads of washing done and that's about it xx.

Cagliostro · 01/05/2017 16:15

Same reason we loved Moana - a real strong heroine, and not a hint of romance either. Refreshing!

I have made one unusual achievement today - I have moisturised! Well arms and legs anyway. Haven't bothered for ages but a friend gave me some nice body lotion so I thought I'd try. I'm truly terrible at the whole looking-after-myself thing so it's a big deal for me. :)

Managed some home ed as well, then we realised it was bank holiday as a neighbour knocked for the Caglets! But we had got something done regardless.

Slurrycart · 01/05/2017 16:20

[From scuzzy area at back of rehearsal room]

Gosh - very impressed by how much everyone has got done today!
Well done fledglings!

Meant to say to Cag - love the sheep! Thank you Grin!

OP posts:
foxessocks · 01/05/2017 17:31

Hmm not the best day here , we've had tears and tantrums and whinging and whining. But we did have a Nandos so that made things a bit better! Grin

Ta das
Daily routine
Ironing

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/05/2017 17:46

Another moana fan here
Well done cag for self care.I too rubbish at bothering for myself.I always find 100things that have higher priority....
Had a nap,spent time comforting dd2

Really should start dinner-new potatoes, minted lamb chops, carrots and green beans.making carrot soup for dd2 and will be stirring red pepper hummus into itSmile

foxessocks · 01/05/2017 19:08

zoo your dinner sounds delicious! I've just had a giant crumpet so still a bit hungry...

Ds is refusing to sleep again. Really struggling with him atm. He is clearly tired because he is so whingey but he used to feed to sleep and has stopped doing that all the time and he has no other way of settling. I can't rock him because he's too heavy. I know I've caused this problem myself but with dd it sorted itself out because she sucked her fingers and she had naps in her bouncy chair (ds too big for bouncy chair as well!). Gah. Feeling well and truly fed up. We managed to get dd to bed at 6.30 as felt like everyone needed an early night but ds still up and he is not happy. If anyone has any ideas please share!!

PS sorry for the rant and totally off topic of flying I know!

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/05/2017 19:27

My ds howled unless put him in car seat and rocked it with foot.or put him in front wash machine when ut was on...
In my defence he was a very difficult baby. Didn't feed is sleep, just screamed. All the timeSad
