Fledglings flapping and flying in February - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/01/2017 10:27

Hello all and welcome to the February Flylady thread! Welcome to all current posters and also to any returners plus of course anyone who would like to join. The more the merrier.

We are a friendly group who (sort of) follow the Flylady system in hopes of a more organised home and life. Some of us manage that better than others Smile.

It's my first time running this thread so here we go with links... Please if anything is wrong feel free to correct me. Hopefully it will all go swimmingly this month but I apologise in advance for anything not slick! I'm starting a day early as have work tomorrow and I am slow at this but will try to stay on the old thread until tomorrow. Thanks so much for doing the December and January threads Cotsowold.

We are in zone 5 for the first few days of the month.

Flylady advises decluttering for 15 mins a day. I tend to manage 5 but I know lots of people have great results with 15.

I can't figure out how to post the individual missions (I will get better, I hope!) so as a treat here is the sneak peak for the rest of the week which has all the missions www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions

Feb 1st's mission is to clean our vents!!

If you have already decluttered then you could start some detailed cleaning www.flylady.net/d/zones/detailed-cleaning-zone-5/

For a summary of what's going on, go to www.flylady.net/c/lp.php or just follow this thread Smile. Sometimes the Flylady website takes a little while to catch up on a new month.

Newbies, welcome, have a look around the Flylady website - it can sometimes be a bit disorganised. Unless you want to, beware of signing up for her emails - there are hundreds and all the info is on the website anyway. Here is the getting started link [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

I'll post the baby step and Wednesday's daily focus next.

afreshIf you flopping in naughty corner want come wait with me til foxes appears with leftover party food

My get up and go got up and ran off........

Cagliostro · 19/02/2017 11:28

I woke up early today but have still done bugger all. Yesterday we dismantled our bed

Have an awesome birthday party foxlet and hope all the earaches etc bog off soon! Definitely resist the cotton bud. I use an ear spoon for wax but still wouldn't recommend it when you're achey.

DCs have some clothes to put away, I did 4 washes yesterday! Also cut up some more fabric for the stash from old clothes, and sorted through 2 big bags of clothes DS was given by a couple of his friends (most of his male friends are 2 years older = lots of hand me downs!) - a few things out the door as they are too small, and I washed the rest - not that they weren't clean, they just smelled of different laundry stuff which in an autism house is bad news :o all the jogging bottoms are slightly too big so I'm going to put them aside.

We also dismantled our bed and now just have the mattress on the floor.

Living room is a pit as well

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 19/02/2017 12:24

Boo to all the horrible ear issues Sad
Hope the party is going well foxes!

I had an early start with DS (DH had a lie in) and now I'm struggling to motivate myself to move from the sofa...
In a bit we're going to pop into town and get some bulbs because we have no working lights and we'll probably get a coffee somewhere. Our plans are so elaborate for today!

Ta da so far:
Laundry washed and in dryer
Yesterday's laundry put away
Beds made
Animals fed
Living room tidied

The rest of the house is a bit of a hellhole so might do a bit more later on.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/02/2017 13:11

I'm firmly in the naughty corner, party was good fun but so many children and I'm exhausted!! We are surrounded by a sea of wrapping paper and sweets. So I'm passing round chocolate fingers and haribo to everyone! Also my little girl is 3.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/02/2017 17:30

You wait til your little girls 22(dd1 in Jan just gone. Howls like wolf at moon)you wonder where the time went?!

cag I don't have autism, bit I hate hand me downs that smell different soap powder. Don't smell like "us"

PurpleDaisies · 19/02/2017 17:41

Hi from the naughty corner! It's been a bad week for cleaning because of a horrible cold, earache (sympathies to all the others with this) and then tiredness afterwards. I've got a few job applications done so hopefully next week there might be news on that. There's also some more storage furniture from Ikea so I'm going to do some reorganising. Half term is nearly over which is sad, but I'm quite looking forward to getting back to normal.

Greymalkin · 19/02/2017 18:13

Hi everyone, I keep trying to catch up on about a week's worth of posts on the thread and it is starting to feel like another 'to do' job. So I'm just going to jump back in where we are. So sorry if I have missed any newbies, or any major news.

I'm struggling.

DS has shredded mine and DH's nerves. DH and I are both stressing and both feel like crying from tiredness and stress. I love my boy to bits but sometimes I feel like I should never have been a parent as there are days where I just cannot cope with him. This is normal, right?

I love our new house but I am struggling to accept that it is going to take a while for it to be fully sorted and tidy. I am really struggling to keep up with the cleaning and the decluttering and I am one of those people who NEED a clean and tidy house for my own sanity and sense of calm.

I am also equally excited and terrified of my new job which I start in about six weeks. It has way more professional responsibility and line management duties than I have ever had before. I want the challenge but it is scary too.

Sorry, lots of me, me, me whinging going on, but you lot are lovely and I hope you don't mind.

Cagliostro · 19/02/2017 18:47

Of course we don't mind grey 'tis what we are here for! Rant away.

New job sounds exciting! Scary when it's a big step up but I bet you'll be fab and you'll get more confident as you settle in.

Can't advise on the clutter 😳 But yes on the parenting front. hell yes. Little kids are bloody hard work and I'm not sure any of us know what we are doing TBH, doubt and self deprecating are par for the course. Xx

I have barely moved from the bed this afternoon as a quick trip to town wore me out. We got storage things for the caglets' clothes as some of their drawers are broken (everything in this house is literally falling apart! Just hope my fragile sanity doesn't follow suit) so they moved their t-shirts into that, we've put our laundry away and I've done some project work with them for geography club next week. Yet I can't imagine how I'm going to get the energy to do anything for dinner! I just want to sleep. Luckily DH did a cooked lunch before work so I'll just throw some cold stuff at the kids.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/02/2017 19:54

grey I was told if you don't feel guilt as a mum you ain't doing it right
At this time I could cheerfully bury dd2 in the back garden(cept c it's clay soil and my back couldn't dig that kinda hole)she took the last shred of steel nerves I had stamp on it, curse it and screech like a possessed harpy.its been s trying week with her.sodding hormonesHmm

I will miss D's n lil zoo.I will miss dd2 ,but I suspect tomorrow it will restore some patience not having her ranting under my feet constantly(as EVERYTHINGS my fault.clearly)
I hate trailing up n down school all the time, but the routine of it is good for me. I don't see many people in RL and the isolation isn't good fir my mental health really.bit stressed and down. But heyho, its light earlier and snowdrops and daffs are blooming, birds start sing.SPRINGS COMINGGrin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/02/2017 21:29

Hello all, spring is definitely coming zoo. In naughty corner a bit as we got back much later than expected from the meal. I am determined to sit down and watch telly at 10pm so realistically won't get everything done. How does so much mess and laundry accumulate in just one day? Confused. Meal was ok actually so that's a relief. Not remotely relaxing eating out with young children though.

Grey Flowers, am I right that your DS is about 3? It is not the easiest of ages Grin (although I have found it easier than 2 foxes in case I have just worried you there!). Definitely jump back in.

Hello also to Cag, Purple and Afresh. Will post links in a bit.

Here is the daily summary for Monday...

All information also available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. The

flight plan
should update every day.

We are in Zone 4 this week: the master bedroom and en-suite if applicable

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 4 is here

Spend 15 mins (or what you can manage) decluttering in Zone 4.

The mission for today is: This week we are in Zone 4: The master Bedroom, Bathroom, and Closet. The mission for today is to Clean off the top of your dresser. Throw away any trash, and put away random items that have been put there in a stash and dash. Make sure to dust after you have finished! If the top of your dresser is a major job, set your timer and tackle this 15 minutes at a time.

The daily focus for Monday is: weekly home blessing hour

Flylady herself says do the home bleugh (what we call the home blessing - makes it more bearable!) when it suits you best. Personally I occupy the DC while DH does it at the end of the week or at the weekend.

The monthly habit for February is to declutter for 15 mins a day which is a brilliant habit!

Daily reminders:
reminders sorry guys just realised I should have been changing the link for this each day.

Baby-step no 20 - do a full load of laundry, wash, dry, put away. I am obsessed with laundry and do notice that if I get very behind with it increases stress levels. I think the benefit in being caught up with it most of the time means that if stuff does happen and you can't do it, it is not so awful so quickly.

Flykids challenge:
We are going to do what is called a Hot Spot Fire Drill!
This is when we look around our rooms at the flat surfaces of our furniture. The desk, the dresser and the nightstands. These are the places that we will just pile things on instead of throwing them away or putting them away. These are the Hot Spots. To help us clean these places up we are going to do a Fire Drill. We are going to set a timer for 5 minutes and see how much and can throw away and put away off of those Hot Spots.

Ready.. set.... GO!

Your rooms will look and feel less messy when those flat surfaces are neat.

Happy flying.

I'm back home after a lovely weekend away with family. Got quite a few things on this week so a grip needs to be got ASAP. Wish me luck ... see you tomorrow!

Cagliostro · 19/02/2017 22:52

Been quite a nice day today if not terribly productive. I did make a sari for DD's doll though :o and the Caglets asked to play games before bed which was nice, Zeus on the Loose and Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit. :) I've got a few more clothes to cut up for the fabric stash but I'm pretty beat.

Lots of project work (oh gosh must do spellings too! Haven't set any yet since their last test) and HUGE tidy up of living room required as people round on Tuesday

MercuryRising · 20/02/2017 06:36

I need you fledglings!!!
I jump on and fall off of these threads so often it is ridiculous. But the chaos in my house is testimony to the fact that I need the flylady system.

We have just finished half term and whilst I have had a great week with the dc my house is worse than ever. I guess home bleurgh day is the best day to start so I am going to have yet another go Blush

To do
Washload
Small pile of ironing
Hoover, dust and wash floors throughout
Put the bins out
Ds2 to toddler music class
School planning
Get the masterbedroom tidy

I will be back later to read the thread and to report some progress

Greymalkin · 20/02/2017 06:41

Thanks everyone, I feel a lot better this morning.

Cag - I hope you are right about the confidence at work. This is finally the stepping stone kind of job towards a real career, rather than a job, iyswim. All of my jobs since leaving uni have pretty much been in my comfort zone and haven't really challenged me in the slightest. This one will be very different.

Zoo Grin at you wanting to bury your DD in the garden!! Although I suspect you might still be able to hear here harpy screeches!

Stressy my DS was 4 in December. He has had some developmental leaps recently and I guess what with the house move as well it has been quite taxing on him. He will be soooooo ready for school come September!

< waves to Cotswold SC Toffee Honu Dogs Einstein AFresh Foxes Purple Mermaids WhoKnows and others I'm sorry I've missed.
