Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

CotswoldStrife · 30/12/2016 23:42

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Oops posted too soon.

A busy day here...

Ta da's

  • kitchen hoovered and mopped
  • lounge tidied and hoovered
  • hallway hoovered, mopped and skirting boards wiped
  • one washload on (still waiting to be emptied from the machine)
  • kitchen wiped over
  • puppy training class done (resulting in puppy covered in sand so therefore hallway and kitchen floor now covered in sand).

DH back in work tomorrow so I'll be on it good and proper!

Elenorrigbywoes · 02/01/2017 21:39

This is a great thread. My aim for 2017 is to have the whole house clean, decorated and tidy at the same time!
Ta das:
Two washes hung to dry
Dry washing put away
15 minutes of ironing
One box of decorations put away
Kitchen cleaned and tidied
DS2 bed changed
One carrier bag of clutter binned!
Sink cleaned and shined!

I really hope this thread will keep me motivated!
To do:
Declutter and decorate my bedroom! Main job for January!

PurpleDaisies · 02/01/2017 21:46

I've had a moderately productive day today. The highlight was cooking tea in the lovely tidy kitchen and having everything cleaned up and the dishwasher on before it even came out of the oven. I've been out for a walk in the sunshine and had a long nap to recover.

Dh is back at work so I won't have a car tomorrow and I'll get stuck at home. I've got big plans for finishing the final coats of paint on the skirting boards and sanding a couple of doors, plus tackling the pile under the stairs.

Keep on flying everyone. Smile

Batbear · 02/01/2017 21:51

Busy day here, but managed a quite a lot.

Tadas
load of washing
Kept kitchen clean after breakfast and lunch.
Had a walk with the DC's, cleaned their muddy shoes afterwards!
Made a roast dinner and a soup for lunches at work
Put away ironing from yesterday evening
Cleaned bath after after DCs were in it
Did some speed vacuuming

Back to work tomorrow, so i'm now wondering how i'll fit it all in again!

Mammyofonlyone · 02/01/2017 22:18

I think I did well today. We had a massive room full of boxes in our attic from when we moved in a year ago (!). DH and I emptied all the boxes and loaded my car with charity shop stuff for tomorrow. Will do that, then rip run, then take out all the baby stuff from the other attic room and put Christmas stuff back (already packed up). Also washed, ironed and tidied playroom.

I have shined my sink for the last three days too which I am big fan of.

I have tried to read the full thread but how do I know what jobs I need to do each day? I've read about 15 min focus - do you just pick a random job to do for 15 mins e.g. Sort out the messy drawer? Are there other general jobs I should be doing each day, such as hoovering and dusting etc?

Sorry for being slow on the uptake....

Mammyofonlyone · 02/01/2017 22:22

*tip run

Afreshstartplease · 02/01/2017 22:23

Evening all

Mainly just basics done today here! Planning on being up early tomorrow as a trial for back to school run! So hopefully get more done tomorrow

PurpleDaisies · 02/01/2017 22:31

mammy the fly lady website has a schedule for getting round all the rooms in a month. To start with I decluttered in whichever room was the focus for the week but as things got less cluttered I wrote out a list of everything I wanted to get organised and worked through that for the 15minutes a day. Once you're decluttered there's a detailed cleaning list for each room-I work through my amended version of that until the room of the week changes.

Regarding when to do housework, Monday there's a "home blessing hour" (bleurgh) where hoovering etc is done. I'm always busy on a Monday so I go rogue and do it throughout the week instead. I'd try and work out what needs doing daily (for me bins, kitchen sides and quick bathroom wipe) weekly (hoovering, bed linen, deep clean bathroom and kitchen etc) and monthly (dusting under furniture type tasks). Basically just start doing something and the details will work themselves out.

clumsyduck · 02/01/2017 22:31

Done the big de clutter today alongside Christmas things put away too . Two massive bin bags of stuffed chucked . Clothes for the charity shop to sort tommrow

Phew !!

Mammyofonlyone · 02/01/2017 22:35

Thanks purple that makes sense. I think I am largely de cluttered in most rooms as we have just had a big sort out following a bit of work on the house so I think I can just go onto the daily/weekly/etc maintenance.

I'll have a look on the website for schedules etc.

Thank you again

CotswoldStrife · 02/01/2017 23:07

I am Shock (and slightly Envy ) at the levels of achievement on here. I am typing this on a perfectly made bed, chilled glass of white - yes, I'm still in the hotel. But home tomorrow. Watch me fall ... but not until I have stuffed myself at breakfast. Yes, another mini pain au chocolate will do nicely thanks.

I will read and comment more thoroughly tomorrow. We've had a nice day with family may have gone a bit mad shopping and the present haul is not too bulky fortunately.

Will do the links now and sit back in awe as you whirling dervishes whip through your houses like tornados!

Hello everyone
Have toyed with Flylady before but didn't get beyond the sink. My house is minimalist but I find things gravitate towards hotspots. My big thing with flylady is the getting dressed as soon as you get up. I'm such a pj fiend. Yday I took all the decs down and cleared up still in my pjs. It's a bad habit and one I want to break. I feel so much better when I am up and dressed before coming downstairs but never seem to manage it!!!!

Still in Pjs now and it's 10am. Have shined sink though :)

PurpleDaisies · 03/01/2017 10:39

Oh EmGee I'm exactly the same. I'm still in my pjs too. I don't know why it's so hard to get dressed, and while I'm not out of my nightwear I lose hours on the sofa. This is going to be my habit of the month...starting after the programme on tv I'm watching finished!

Cagliostro · 03/01/2017 12:24

Hi everyone! Not caught up with thread, I am at mum's for the week. Off to the panto in a bit - Craig Revel-Horwood (judge from Strictly) as Captain Hook :o :o then the Caglets are spending their Christmas money and I have a gift card to get them some sale clothes with, hoping not to succumb to buying anything for myself...

Feeling quite motivated although I guess it's easy to say that when I'm not actually at home in the mess! DH (stuck at home as he's working every day) is taking the tree down while we are away though and hopefully catching up on laundry.

I have joined the carrier bag a day decluttering thread too.
