Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

I must admit if I don't do the shining shine thing every eve everything seems to fall apart. But maybe that's because I'm a bit unhinged. I find if I do it everyday it takes literally no time at all.

I was finding it difficult concentration wise yesterday and kitchen seemed a tip. I put the timer on 15 mins and I'm 15 mins a seemingly insurmountable job was all done! Amazed!

Yesterday I did dining table and chairs - scraping dried on food off the underneath- thanks kids. I also washed the cushion pads I hadn't realised they were so grim.

Can I join?

I cleaned shower screen with bathroom cleaner and nail brush, it's come up lovely and clean. I have now put in window squidgy for between cleans.

Off to gym now

Well done newchick! That is so great and hopefully it will just get better too.

I have been flying since September just after I had my second baby. I had been madly cleaning at the end of pregnancy so house had been pretty much decluttered and I wanted to keep it up and not let it descend back into chaos. I still can't believe how much stuff was under my bed! And now I still only have two storage boxes under my bed and no clutter!

I now have a pretty solid daily routine, including making my bed before leaving the house and cleaning the kitchen before I go to bed. And I try and do decluttering most days. Have to admit I didn't get many of the missions done in December but I did still keep up with my routines.

Anyway waffle over , here's to a good 2017 everyone !

Off out this morning so will be getting on with stuff later hopefully but had a very bad nights sleep last night as ds has a cold so may end up on the sofa with chocolate again...

All stairs, landing and living room hoovered by DH. We live in a tall terrace over four floors so hoovering stairs involves 3 flights!!
Laundry on (trying to do one load per day to keep on top of it!)
Dishwasher emptied by DC
Kitchen sides all wiped by me a 10 mins decluttering the naughty corner.
We have a tiny hall with a playroom / study off it just inside the front door so yhis us going to be included in the zone for this week here. It needs constant attention and is an area we have never managed to be fully happy with. It has all the kids school stuff, instruments, DH paperwork etc etc. It was redecorated recently and is much better than it was but definitely needs more work.
It's lovely to hear people's positive stories. I'm going to adopt the 15 mins decluttering per day

GreyandGrumpy48 · 02/01/2017 14:17

All Christmas decorations boxed up and tree taken to the recycling point. Pine needles all hoovered up and load if washing on. 15 minutes decluttering to do but feeling quite pleased with what has been achieved so far. I know it will be harder when I'm back at work tomorrow so would love any tips on how to motivate yourself after a long day at work.

Shiny sinks...tick ! Nice, til DH emptied the teapot all over it without rinsing it off... grr. I won't list the usual daily jobs as it's boring ! Also got all the Christmas stuff into 1 room to put away sometime later this week. 15 mins blast is good and achievable.

Hello, productive day here!

Don't want to put a downer on the thread so won't go on too much about it but met my friend at soft play today. Her DP is ill with some really worrying symptoms and it made me realise how much what I was stressing about (essay, DDs bickering, etc) just really isn't worth it. Came back and actually achieved a load of stuff instead of my usual procrastination as felt wrong to just waste time after that. I'm a HCP and see serious stuff regularly but it's just rubbish sometimes.

Back to normal service now...

Ta da:-
DH has taken decorations down
DH also moved a bookcase so we have put some of DC's books into it to give some more space in their rooms and more space for games and our work stuff in the other bookcase.
Took bottles to bottle bank (no kerbside collection for glass here)
Started sorting though DD1's hair accessories in th hope of making school mornings easier so they are not a huge mess
Went for a run
We've all eaten tea which involved some decluttering of random freezer and fridge bits!

To do
Get girls to sleep
Laundry check
Phone my brother
Before bed routine
Essay work
Quick tidy up
Find invitations for DD2 party

Cooked dinner
Have tidied living room
Got cross with DP because I felt I did a lot and he came home from playing with his friends and went on iPad (tbf, he did look sheepish after and stepped up)

Put most of the DCs dry washing away. DS aged 2 was helping me so there's still a bit left in the wrong places Grin
Did 15 minutes on bedroom. This is my main project as it's full of clutter. Moving boxes from over 2 years ago etc. Hoping this 15 mins a day will chip away at it.
DH did dining table and kitchen.
Clothes ready for tomorrow
DCs clothes and bags ready for tomorrow
Dirty washing sorted and ready to go on tomorrow

Back to work tomorrow so hoping can keep going with the 15 minutes thing at least

Big focus on DSD bedroom today, so there was de-cluttering and furniture re-arrangement. I "facilitated" by making beverages and passing in sweets. There is now an Ikea bag of stuff and 3 items of furniture to find homes for but the room looks massive!

I did whack the doormat in a short-lived attempt to clean the entrance. That felt good. I may do it more often.
