Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Sleep well everyone - will be back tomorrow morning!

Morning Fledglings!

I haven't even got up yet. 😳😳😳

Must do more laundry today and get it all put away by bedtime! That's all I'm really hoping for today.

CotswoldStrife · 20/01/2017 11:06

G'morning fledglings! Crisp, sunny day here - walked across a frosty field this morning, beautiful!

Aiming to crack on with filling bags of junk for the tip, bought some vaguely American-type food to cheer DD up as she is very worried about The Donald taking over. I could hear DH in the bathroom this morning trying to explain that politicians don't do half the things they say they will Grin

Will also clear out my handbag, it is full of crumbs and junk!

Back at lunchtime, keeeeeep flapping!

PurpleDaisies · 20/01/2017 13:09

Hi everyone,
Looking for a post I wrote yesterday but can't find it. That's the story of this week unfortunately!

Today it's a baking day (technically decorating since I did the sponges yesterday). It's MILs birthday tomorrow so it's a rennie Mackintosh theme. Fun but making royal icing always coats the kitchen in icing sugar so it'll be a big clean up after. I've finally got work starting up next week so I really want to finish decluttering under the stairs.

Priority one is cake, priority two is under stairs and we'll see what else gets done. I really like these bathroom weeks. It feels like a rest.

stressy the extra childcare hours sound a great idea. I don't know how you manage to get any studying done at all with small children-I'm in awe. Don't feel guilty. You're setting a great example by being so driven.

foxes if I'm having soup as a main I normally add more protein (chick peas, quorn pieces, chorizo, cheese, chicken etc) and serve with carbs (pitta, naan bread, cheese scones).

cotswold I'm guessing from your user name you've got similar views to me with different hills (I think I'm MendipStrife!). It's gorgeous here too. I love it when it's cold but bright and you can put fifteen layers on, go out for a walk in the sun and come back with a freezing face.

Waves to everyone else since I'm getting evils from the coffee shop owner where I'm sitting-I have been here a while!

CotswoldStrife · 20/01/2017 15:11

I've had a coffee too this morning, and I suspect it will not be the last ...

Still have not motivated myself to get to the tip Blush Can't keep piling the bags up forever Grin

I can see some lovely hills from here - not actually in the Cotswolds itself but nearby (by the cheese rolling). It is very pretty, I will say that.

Laptop has been playing up a bit this week, so DH has just swapped the keyboard.

Will run the dishwasher - planning American-style food for tea (loosely related in most cases) to go with the inauguration. Not my choice of candidate but hey, I wasn't a voter there!

Give the coffee shop owner evils back - you are enhancing his environment, Purple (was it a post on here that you've lost, have you looked at 'I'm on' or searched your own name?)

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 20/01/2017 15:39

Second wash on and other laundry sorted into piles, I've also spent ages on the phone to HP to sort out printer issues. And eaten junk food.

PurpleDaisies · 20/01/2017 15:40

was it a post on here that you've lost, have you looked at 'I'm on' or searched your own name?

It was a post on this thread but it's definitely disappeared-the site was mega slow yesterday so I wonder if I clicked off the page too soon. It wasn't anything very exciting.

Annoyingly I'm back to discover the jam for thread cake was mouldy. I couldn't be bothered to go out again so it's got lemon curd in the middle instead. I've currently got a lovely clean white cake to pipe on and it's so intimidating. Black icing on white base you get one attempt to get it right or it looks awful. Argh. I'm psyching myself out. It's not even a scary client!

foxessocks · 20/01/2017 17:18

Ooh purple do you make cakes for a living?! (Sorry I may have missed the obvious here!). I love baking but can't do icing or any kind of decorating at all, just not artistic in the slightest. Thanks for the ideas about the soup, I'm storing those away for another day. The soup I planned is leek and tomato so just veggie although it does have potato in it. I'm going to do it for lunch tomorrow as dh working in the morning but home for lunch so be nice to sit down together for lunch. This is the plan anyway, if I can motivate myself to prepare it in the morning!

Ta das
Daily routine finished
Tidied up living room AGAIN after dd destroyed it!
Picked up all the nappies that Dd has put round the entire house and mixed her size 5s up with ds size 4s so really hard to tell apart, it's a nappy nightmare in this house now Shock
Made dinner now in the oven
Tidied kitchen up and dishwasher emptied again
Cleaned the bathroom shelf and bath (decluttered the shelf first managed to get dh to put some of his stuff away in the bedroom but that opened another can of worms because his bedside cupboard is literally overflowing now...I can't declutter his stuff and I don't want to nag him so it will probably stay like this forever...)
Sorted out some photos for the photo album
Food shopping online

I didn't manage ironing, mirror polishing or mopping surprise surprise my most hated jobs. I think I'll leave them for now as I'm tired and hungry and everybody else in my house is now relaxing in front of the TV!

foxessocks · 20/01/2017 17:19

Sorry what a long post that was! And forgot to say have lovely weekends everyone.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 20/01/2017 18:26

foxes, for soup I'd go with Purple's suggestions. I'd be fine with soup and bread for a main meal usually but I know DH would want more and if I was really hungry I would too. Unless it is a proper chunky soup. You could always bulk it up with some other snacky bits too. I can sympathise with the nappies everywhere. We have loads of toys sprawled out over the living room which we will have to tidy in a bit. Children have such an amazing ability to cause chaos!

Thanks Purple, will keep telling myself I am setting them an example Smile.

zoo any joy at docs?

Cotswold, re Trump, trying not to think too much about it because as DH says (I may have ranted a bit!), what can we do? I think it's entirely reasonable of your DD to be worried but we can only hope your DH is right about politicians Grin.

Ta da:-
Girls' tea done
Dishwasher on
Washing machine loaded ready to go once I chuck DD1's polo shirt in after the bath
DDs drinking their milk with telly
5 min declutter

To do:-
Bathtime
Bedtime
Before bed routine
Bit of studying - not going to do loads as brain a bit fried from doing it this morning but need to do an hour or so.
Drink wine
Happy Friday all.

PurpleDaisies · 20/01/2017 21:38

foxes I'm a keen amateur-my "client" is my MIL. Grin
I can see how that was misleading. I mostly do birthday cakes for family and friends plus the occasional wedding cake. I really enjoy it and sometimes think about doing it alongside tutoring but there isn't really enough money in it to make it worthwhile. There's also the issue of environmental health certifying my kitchen as safe...

The cake is finished and I'm mainly pleased. I'm a bit of a perfectionist (another reason why doing it as a career would be bad!) and have to keep reminding myself nobody else will be looking for the flaws. I didn't make it to tidying under the stairs but that's not a disaster.

Early night tonight-I'm knackered!

CotswoldStrife · 20/01/2017 23:27

Purple one of my relatives did cake making/decorating but stopped because it is impossible to make money - it takes SO much time!

I did not make it to the tip today (I just mis-typed that as top, certainly didn't hit that either). I did have a tin of soup today but with a bread roll, I once read on t'internet that soup without a piece of bread or other carby item is a drink. I agree.

I will post the links next!

Yes that's exactly it. To make it look clean and tidy takes so long, plus there's the basic cost of the ingredients etc. Everyone estimates the cost of icing, cake boards and boxes. People that don't bake don't always realise how hard it is to make a cake look good and aren't willing to pay what it's worth or you're competing with supermarket. I worked out once I'd be working for about two pounds and hour so I just bake for fun. Minor rant over. Grin

Dreamingoutloud7 · 21/01/2017 10:11

Morning everyone,
Had such a busy week, well maybe not busy, but busier so it threw me out of routine!

Also fancy going for a nice walk.

To dos
Strip bedding and wash
2 loads of clothes washing
Wash towels
Clean bathroom
Put away baby clothes Grin
Quick tidy of bedroom
Put all washing away
