Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

CotswoldStrife · 30/12/2016 23:42

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

I did dinner though, despite being so epically tired and grumpy.

I still need to put another wash on though. And the living room is a pit despite it being really quite clean this morning (comparatively speaking).

What ho fledglings!

Have not really read the thread properly but wanted to say "thank you" to those of you who have pm'ed me! Will reply tomorrow!

Also, sorry to see so many of you are ailing! Wishing you all speedy recoveries! (Zoo could your little zoolet have quinsy by any chance? I'm no medical expert but could be worth checking out? Poor thing, she has been suffering for so long with bad throat etc. Fantastic list there btw!)

In fact, speed reading down the thread I can see that there are some amazing lists there - fabtastically done everyone - Star Star Star

Aw Foxes fancy your dd thinking you were giving the baby away too Smile Smile bless her!

Cag sorry you are feeling rough today but you have been doing some amazing Flying and home edding!! Cake

Grey hope you are enjoying your new abode and that return to work has not been too onerous!

Cheeky oh yes, I am certainly old enough to remember Vim and wierd bog roll like tracing paper Grin I hadn't realised Vim is still being sold in fact!

Thanks for links Cotswold and hope all newcomers are doing ok! Everyone seems to be enormously busy anyway!

Oh and on the subject of board games for littlies - I have always found Haba toys to be really good - they always include a form to fill in and send off if you happen to lose a part - and they send it back personally adressed to your child! Tier auf Tier is good (stacking animals). We still play it now sometimes!!

Back from weekend plus two lovely days holiday (teaching days) in the countryside. Felt very indulgent to have four days off just after two weeks plus three weekends of Christmas hols - and I am sure with the level of bureaucracy being what it is here, the teachers need two extra days to plough through it all - but then the school wonders why exam results are below par because what with humungously long hols, loads of teaching days, weeks off for tests and assessments and reports, first week of every term spent faffing with timetables/admin/lack of text books, every Wednesday afternoon off, last week of each term doing literally naff all - there isn't actually any time for teachers to teach and students to learn!!! Arrgggghh!! Perhaps that's the idea ... Grin.

Anyway, all that aside Grin it was bracingly cold but lovely! (Although we have mahoosively miscalculated how long it is going to take to get wreck2 even vaguely habitable of course.) Saw two hares, a heron, three partridges and two pheasants and lots of moles. Cut down a hedge. Explored surroundings a bit. Bought brushes. Bought hoover. Bought mop and bucket. Picked a deep fat fryer (would you believe it?) out of hedge that someone had kindly chucked there, along with some tin cans. Charming! Hmm

One huge benefit of not having installed wi-fi yet/having no tv, is that dd automatically does loads of hwk out of sheer boredom. Dh needs wi-fi there to work but we are going to look in to ways of just having it in one area (I'm hopelessly non-tech, so not sure if this is poss) or just via one specific router or some'at.

Back home and have done the following ta das:
unpacked food
unpacked clothing etc
emptied dw
fed and watered furry one
washed muddy dog harness and lead
cleaned and polished dd jodhpur boots and mended with super glue
wrote some rather belated New Year cards Blush
made veggie burgers for supper with remains of all the veg in the fridge drawer
hwk supervision (this took a while)
ironed dd school uniform
filled dw
filled wms for overnight washes
carried laundry downstairs
triage laundry for fortnightly ironing lady (pray she turns up)

Then spent the rest of the time ploughing through the academic choices that dd has to take next year (is she passes through to 3rd year that is, which is currently far from certain). Basically these choices (subjects categorised as academic, professional, semi-professional, trade) determine one's entire future career ... at the age of 13 .... Confused. So no pressure there then... . Fortunatley, have until April to decide!

Tomorrow need to:
sort dh shirts
sort boudoir
do more laundry
sort out food planning (going to pot with living between two locations)
write shopping list
grocery shopping
more NY cards + parcels
dye Barnet Fair
make get well card for friend
cook for friend and deliver (tomorrow or Thurs)
make cakes (tomorrow or Thurs)
get passport photos
eyebrows and nails
renew carte d'identité (tomorrow or Thurs)
make dd proper lunch of ???
rendez-vous with fish van
fish for supper??

Sorry - no more personals - dh flown off to Canada - so need to lock up and do the rounds before bed.

Humungous waves to everyone I have missed! G'night all!

Sweepingchange · 17/01/2017 21:59

[Sorry, that was a bit of an essay wasn't it? Blush ]

CotswoldStrife · 17/01/2017 23:38

I remember Vim in a cardboard tube with the metal sifter thing at the top, if it got wet it was finished - is it in plastic now?

That does sound a bit like glandular fever to me, esp the exhaustion. Ask for a blood test if you ever get to see the GP!

Waves to SC, zoo, Cag, cheeky, foxes, fool, Rshard, freshstart and stressy!

Going to do the links and then creep into bed with a game for a bit. Bit of diary juggling to do tomorrow as some times have changed for the upcoming weekends. Bit of a pain but not unmanageable.

Sleep well, my little fledglings (see, I'm going to bed early-ish like the babystep said. A rare case of me doing something I've posted about. Treasure this day, it may not happen again for a while ...)

Morning all

Been up about an hour but struggling to get going today. I've developed a cold and slept badly due to being all blocked up and unable to breath

Anyway

DC3+4 are up. Baby is fed and changed. Dd watching Bob the builder. I've just finished by brew so going to sort out washing and finish last nights pots

FoolandFitz · 18/01/2017 07:41

sc I enjoyed reading your post.

cotswold I hope you took a photo of yourself going to bed early to prove that you did Grin

afresh ugh at cold - that'll sap your energy right up. Give yourself some TLC.

I didn't manage to clean the bathroom floor last night. Oh well. Will try tonight.

Ta-da so far today:
Bath cleaned - pretty impressed with myself Grin

Right, am off to work. Have a productive day everyone.

Sweepingchange · 18/01/2017 10:24

Arf at "bed selfies" Grin Grin

Good to have you back FoolandFitz! Smile Well done re: bath cleaning! Small steps and all that ... bath yesterday ... floor today ... = perfect Flying technique! Hope work not too onerous.

[Hands over hot honey and lemon drink to Afreststart] Hope you feel better soon.

So cold outside (and in this house generally) that it is taking mahoosive efforts to stir myself to do things. I can see my breath in the laundry room! Have made large cardboard box "refuge" for rabbits with lots of cozy hay. Took furry one for walk this morning and he enjoyed "skating" over frozen puzzles. I am now about to vaseline his paws Grin

Dw unloaded. Washing machines on. More NY cards done. Hall tidied. Ironing lady not turned up as frequently happens (first world prob) so going to tackle that this afternoon while watching recording of Interior Design Beeb prog (always good for a chuckle; usually owing to the male presenter's trousers Grin).

Before that; going to take my old lady trolley and hit the supermarket [groan]

Warp up warm everyone!

Gizlotsmum · 18/01/2017 13:21

Argh so fallen off the ladder. Poorly gizlots are not helping and I feel rough as too. Currently have them both off school. Littlest one has finally fallen asleep, eldest will be back at school tomorrow!

PurpleDaisies · 18/01/2017 14:37

Ill come and join you at the bottom of the ladder gizlot. Head still hurting-think I need to get antibiotics which might be more of an endeavour giving I'm not registered with a gp at the moment (house move). So far my ta da's are only getting out of bed, having a shower, going to a shop and sitting in a coffee shop. I'm making brownies when I get home but not sure if I'll be going out for the dinner that they're pudding for.

CotswoldStrife · 18/01/2017 14:53

Afternoon all! Bed selfies - not of me, no-one wants to see that trust me!

Spent most of the day so far out of the house, dashing round now to make a difference before anyone else gets home!

Waves to freshstart, fool, SC, Gizlots and Purple.

Scans horizon for zoo, grey, Rshard, foxes, newchick and I hope stressy is beating the essay!

foxessocks · 18/01/2017 16:37

Ta das
Daily routine all done
Sorted out all my bedsheets and towels , binned loads of old cushions and dh taking old towels to work to use as rags. Need to find somewhere that might take a sleeping bag still in good condition. We have ordered some nice new towels too!

To do
Some detail cleaning in the bathroom
Ironing

I don't have any old make up to sort through so don't need to do that mission! I have so little make up I use it all!

PurpleDaisies · 18/01/2017 16:41

I have choc orange brownies in the oven, have cleaned the kitchen and put the dishwasher on. Caffeine is a wonderful thing. Smile

PurpleDaisies · 18/01/2017 16:42

foxes it's nice when a mission comes up that isn't relevant or you've already done. We haven't been in the house long enough to have empty bottles hanging around th me bathroom. I felt smug when that came up.

foxessocks · 18/01/2017 16:58

purple yes I love feeling a bit smug when something comes up that I've already got sorted , I could use the extra time to do something else useful but am watching stick man with dd instead Confused I've only seen it probably 1627383 times. I also felt smug about the empty bottles one but then when I actually checked I found quite a lot round the bath Blush.

foxessocks · 18/01/2017 16:59

PS chocolate orange brownies you say?! I'm jealous!

Gizlotsmum · 18/01/2017 17:02

So ta da...

Littlest gizlot to drs, not an a&e job unless he gets any worse... fingers crossed..even calpols magic formula is failing!

Biggest gizlot back to school tomorrow, luckily I'm not working so littlest will stay off another day!

Tomorrow I will hopefully get some washing done as I am feeling noticeably better...

PurpleDaisies · 18/01/2017 17:07

Thanks foxes...it's this recipe. It's officially a "slump cake" but basically tastes like brownies. It's really good. I'm still getting used to the oven so it's caught a bit but I'll just eat that bit myself. I don't bother with blitzing the marmalade-the chunks of orange are really nice.
