Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

CotswoldStrife · 30/12/2016 23:42

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

foxessocks · 15/01/2017 16:29

Thanks purple that sounds just what I want! I will have a look and see where my nearest B&M is...

PurpleDaisies · 15/01/2017 17:17

zoo a hacksaw will be perfect! I feel like I'm sponsored by sudafed at the moment. Never mind.

We've done some useful bits-installed smoke alarms, organised some dvds so the cabinet isn't overflowing and put the decorations in the attic.

foxes b and m is amazing. Loads of cheap cleaning stuff there too.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 15/01/2017 17:34

Sorry for being absent a few days. Norovirus and colds. Don't think I'll miss this winter!

So I'm a bit behind. Or not behind - jump in where you are as fly lady says.

Anyone know about decluttering paperwork? I have payslips etc and not sure how long to keep them?

foxessocks · 15/01/2017 18:03

Argh sorry so many people feeling poorly, I have felt a bit under the weather this afternoon too. Roll on spring time!

Purple I googled b&m and it is a fair drive away but it looks extremely tempting...As soon as pay day is here I may have to go and have a look around!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 15/01/2017 18:33

Brew for poorly people.

Ta da:-
Got new Hoover - would have been good excuse to avoid housework zoo but realistically would have had to get one sooner rather than later and wanted to take advantage of DH being off today to pick it up easily.

We went on our day out anyway as we figured life was too short - did a slightly shorter cheaper option.
All eaten tea
Girls in bath
DH setting up new Hoover and I hope hoovering out tumble drier

To do:-
Laundry - really behind as had hoped to do a few loads (delicates etc, had even been organised and sorted it) today
Before bed routine
Bedtime
Hoping to do a few room rescues tonight as not studying
Enjoy a mini rest as have to get back on it with assignment tomorrow.

AbbeyRoad I'm not sure about payslips but one thing I have found very useful is to move onto electronic payslips at work. It helps with future and organisation if it's an option for you.

I've been rubbish this weekend, feeling a bit run down and tired. I've got a week off now though so tomorrow I will get stuck in.

comeagainforbigfudge · 15/01/2017 19:34

Gosh, everyone seems to be struck down with something here too. Well apart from me famous last words

Flowers to everyone
If the hacksaw doesn't work purple, may I offer a drill? Release some pressure at least

I LOVE a trip to b&m (or home bargains). Actually have to ban myself as I have plenty of cleaning products for just now and, well, trying to get rid of stuff. Not buy more Blush

Not very productive day here. DD decided to run away whilst I was getting her changed and fall and split her forehead open. Requiring a trip to A&E to get it glued shut.

Ta da's
Kitchen cleaned
One load of laundry dried
2nd small load washed and hung out on radiators
Brand new "stair" gate purchased in an attempt to stop wilful child hurting herself again put in place
DD'S nursery bag sorted

To do's
Prep meals for tomorrow

PurpleDaisies · 15/01/2017 19:40

I can understand why the Egyptians were into trepanning. Thanks for your kind offer. Grin

Flowers for everyone who's ill at the moment. Bloody January bugs.

CotswoldStrife · 16/01/2017 00:25

Blush sorry I've been so quiet over the weekend - back to normal Mon-Fri (perhaps Zoo was a little too kind to the bruising with the motivational stick)

Will sort the links for tomorrow and see you in the morning

Hi everyone. Slowly losing will to live here this evening (which I've just realised is in fact not evening but past 2am! Blush). It's been a crap few days frankly. I've spent most of today doing my PIP form, uggggh. And then moved onto my housing form which for some reason, despite being very similar, makes me unspeakably sad and angry and I keep wanting to cry. Hmm :( Angry

So. I've got a little bit left to do, and then I am rewarding myself with a puzzle (I know, I'm odd). DH is dropping it off at the council tomorrow (today).

I will have to be organised in the morning - we're at a friend's for much of the day and I have plenty of things to remember to take etc.

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/01/2017 05:49

Flowerscag these forms in all kinds are soul destroying(speaking from experience)think its so people give up and don't apply
come againanother home bargains fan here!!
Eeek at the forehead. Hope little ones OK glue so much better than whopping great stitches nurses removed in my day

Greymalkin · 16/01/2017 06:29

Good morning fledglings, thanks for links Cotswold

Today is the first day back at work after the move. Fortunately I have already unpacked all my papers and desk contents so have everything I need.

Cag all those forms sound very depressing but imagine the relief you will feel once they are done. I have also rediscovered jigsaws in the last couple of months - I love the way my mind just calms down and gets into a slightly disconnected zone whilst doing them.

We love orchard games too - my DS has just turned 4 and the games we like are The Rocket Game, The Ladybird Game (both simple counting ones) Match and Count.

TooStressy - sounds like the end is in sight with that 'orrible assignment!!

'See' you all later

Rshard · 16/01/2017 07:28

Thanks for links cotswold

Well done cag with the forms, I agree they are a nightmare

Lots of talk of games, one DD still loves at 11 isn't a board game but one for the car. It's called are we there yet. You give them 3 things to look out for and when they spot one they say are we there yet! Simple and distracting on journeys. Can get more complicated depending on age. Now I have in the past had DD looking for someone pushing a pushchair whilst we've been on a motorway but that's for my own personal enjoyment. I can't get away with that these days

Thisrabbitthatrabbit · 16/01/2017 10:20

''Tis Muppets with a NC

Thank you for the links Cotswolds

Its spring cleaning here this week in preparation for a landlord inspection some time soon.

So far I've de-limscaled the taps and I'm part way through oven priding the oven.

I need to get some hob brite for the top and a dishwasher tablet for the door. Both toilets need deep cleaning and de-limescaling. The shed needs clearing out a bit and it's probably about time I washed all the curtains. Oh a get rid of any cobwebs.

So I'm going to try and do basic routines with a deep clean thing thrown in every day.

PurpleDaisies · 16/01/2017 10:57

Morning all.
Finally my head doesn't feel quite as bad as yesterday so I'm going to try and do everything that flylady prescribes for today.

So far thanks to my wonderful husband the dishwasher is unloaded and the kitchen sides are clean. I've sorted out my car insurance and made a to do list...

To dos
Home "blessing" hour (ick)
Bathroom mission
Load of washing
Charity shop visit
Buy guinea pig food (and look at the cute animals in the pet shop)
Transfer some money at the bank

If everything gets done move on to the "wish list" of things to do if I'm feeling ok

PurpleDaisies · 16/01/2017 10:59

thisrabbit descaling taps is my favourite job. We're in a hard water area and they look so much better afterwards.

cag I love a jigsaw. We get at least one every Christmas and usually spend every New Year's Day doing it

foxessocks · 16/01/2017 11:27

Ooh I want a jigsaw now I haven't done a proper one since I was a kid! Dd has lots but they are a bit simple for me what with her only being 3...

I have unloaded the dishwasher and that's it really as I had to take dd to nursery and ds had to have his jabs Sad he is fast asleep on me now and I won't wake him until we have to pick up dd.

Sleep was terrible again last night we were awake from 3am!! I feel like I must be doing something wrong?! He was sleeping so well before.

Not even going to do a to do list , I can't face it right now!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/01/2017 13:01

foxessocks · 16/01/2017 13:55

toostressy my ds is 4 months old - sleep regression age I think?!

Ta das
Daily routine all done
Removed empty bottles and packets from the bathroom and changed the towels and bath mat.

Just checking the deep clean list as I don't have any decluttering to do in the bathroom (I am however going to buy my baskets for storage tomorrow! It is pathetic that I'm look forward to that!)

foxessocks · 16/01/2017 13:57

Oh I think I'll declutter in the spare room as it's other room as well. And I totally forgot the weekly bleugh but I spread that through a whole week anyway. Will try to do one thing off the list maybe hoover downstairs (or get dh to!!)
