October Fledgling thread 2016: where we fluff up our feathers and fall back in to autumnal Flying routines

Strikingclock · 30/09/2016 09:38

Welcome to the October 2016 Fledgling Flying thread!

Come and park your broomsticks mops and buckets here!

This is where, from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here , here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Right. Including today DH is off work for 9 days. We HAVE to make progress in that time! We have lots of home ed activities though and we are away for three nights next weekend. But I am desperate not to let this time slip by without actuall achieving something in the house.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/10/2016 14:24

You can do it Cag!

Have managed some decluttering. Found an old box of biscuits in the kitchen and opened them which counts as decluttering in zone 2 I think as they were about to go stale Grin. Also done 5 mins of decluttering of DD2's clothes as had to search for something in her room anyway.

The rest of my list is still to do and not much hope now until after bedtime as DH just had to go into work.

Grin Grin Afreshstart

Here we go everyone, 1st Sunday thread round up of the month , in which, so far we've been joined by lots of new babies and new comers, and will shortly be joined by yet more babies! Yay! We have, collectively, among other things, been contemplating sleep deprivation, budgeting methods, body clutter, spidery cupboards of doom, cold cat paws, oh, and compost … .

Afreshstart is getting us all excited and broody as she tries to hurry things along with the birth of her new baby. Rather than drinking raspberry leaf tea and eating curry, she has opted for Flying instead! Grin

Furble has also been nesting and walking and preparing for labour. It's well past her due date and we haven't heard from her for a while so … could it be her mini-Fledgling has already arrived...?? [Hoping all well and sending all best wishes x]

Herdofantilop did lots of decluttering of boxes to Oxfam – yay! Unfortunately, her dc then passed on their flu bug to her [proffers grapes and honey & lemon drink]. Hope you are beginning to feel better now!

Shesgotelectricboobs is in the process of transforming her spare room. She has been ebaying and bagging up things for the charity shop and has decluttered her make up/hair/misc drawer – yay! She also went for a horse ride and delegated the bed-making (now that's what I call successful Flying!!)

Toostressyformyowngood has been “decluttering biscuits” Wink and has been busy balancing work and studies and household duties, report writing and celebrating her dh's birthday!

Mercury also celebrated her dp's birthday and completed a mahoosive clothes decluttering project!

Kim82 has also been trying to fit in Flying around work – hope it's going ok!

Yippeeteenage having recovered from a virus, is determined to do more Flying in October!

Foxessocks is having a tough time with two los, battling sleepless nights, and is visiting family today. Hope your headache has cleared! Incidentally, Foxes's dd decided to “assist” with the decluttering process by putting the tv remote control, several fridge magnets and a purse in to her nursery back pack! [Nowt like teaching them young! Wink Grin ]

Stilllivinginazoo, in typically kindly fashion, has been helping her dp with his mother's estate, helping her friend clean her house, helping at choir, helping at the community café, all while nursing two poorly zoolets. She is feeling the effects today and hopefully will be kind to herself tomorrow and rest (hope the gp's appt goes as well as poss). Don't like the sound of that breathlessness/pain [worried] Do take care! Flowers

Octopusarmenvy has woken up full of Flying determination! More power to your elbow!

Celeste has been searching for primary schools (good luck with the decision – tis always a stressful one!) and is Flying high with consistent routines Star. She has had a lovely family walk on the beach in Devon Envy and has supplied us with our new thread motto! Grin Enjoy your run tonight!

Pontificationcentral has been keeping a ginormous number of plates spinning, including, in addition to work and many other activities, an inordinate amount of dance-class chauffering, fund-raising, all this having taken in a vulnerable teen, and nursed her dog back to health! On top of all of that and more, she is preparing for visitors! Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! Halo

Caglio having had some much needed "me" time alone in the Smoke, has given herself a strict 9 day deadline in which to make some progress in the house! [I'm with you in spirit Cag - rl has been getting in the way of decluttering here - I need to make signifcant progress in the next third of the month!]

Blueyeshadow has been busy coordinating a collective family Flying effort!

GrendelsAunty has been trying to get used to the Flylady system, and is busy with her los, but has nevertheless managed to blitz the fridge (which inspired me to do the same)!

Fromwestoeast has been very busy working and is reading about missions and deciding what to declutter - which definitely counts as a baby-step in my book (sorry hate the phrase baby-step – so sickly - but you can't avoid it on on Flylady).

Cotswold got pissed in the naughty corner was understandably stressed by ongoing mobile phone woes and td repair saga but has nonetheless managed to do a lot of Flying in her kitchen! Grin Wink Grin

Babblehag is doing a crisis clean for Tuesday - may the force of the Fledglings be with you!

Castle returned to the thread - yay! - and is parenting, teaching, gardening, renovating, looking after animals and visiting her ma and friends and family all at once (whilst pregnant). Respect!

Greymalkin popped in to share her recent news and pick up some frugaleering tips. All the fledglings send their wholehearted support to her and her oh x

MrsK (a fellow back sufferer – hope it's improving) was seen descending in to the under stairs cupboard of Mordor but she has since been spotted nipping out to the cinema with her girls so thankfully we can cancel the search party! (At least I hope I have that sequence of events right ...get confused here with all this thread flipping and scrolling …. [worried emoticon] Smile )

FencingWire is tackling her paperwork mountain during the month of October as is Whoknowswherethetimegoes [SC looks shifty all of a sudden Blush ]

Summerday11 joined the thread! Smile Hope you and all other newcomers are finding their way ok!

SC momentarily contemplated swapping offspring with Foxes but decided to stick with her stroppy teen who has in fact gone down with some sort of flu virus which explains some of the stroppiness. She has in usual fashion done as little Flying as humanly possible but managed a quick Friday home bleugh.

Sending big wing flaps to Honu Toffee Bubble Feetheart Shannara LiveLife Addictive Badger DontStop Ememem84, Pauline, lazyleo, Happilyahousewife, Outputgap, Justpeachy and apologies to anyone else I have inadvertently missed!

Quiet day here as dd a bit better but still confined to barracks! "See" you all tomorrow!

Tomorrow's baby-step no 10, for Monday 10th Oct is here in which we learn about "the power of 15 mins"! A good one!

Newcomers - here is the launch pad from which you can navigate the site:
www.flylady.net/c/lp.php .

We are in Zone 3 alll this week (the main bathroom plus one extra room 9th-15th inclusive) here.

Either declutter for 15 minutes in this zone, or, if there is no clutter left [hollow laugh] do some detailed cleaning.

The misson for Monday is: here. A 15-min, 27 fling boogie in the bathroom (tossing old shampoo bottles, soap ends etc) and another in the other room, perhaps a guest bedroom or home office?

The daily focus for Monday is: what we call the home bleugh spend 10 mins on 7 separate tasks (or spread them out during the week).

The habit for October is getting rid of paper clutter,
here: www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/october/.
(Scroll down for detailed explanation.)

The daily flight plan here: www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-120 will update itself (hopefully) and if you click on it tomorrow will provide a quick summary of the above.

Have a productive start to the week everyone!

Clean round cats bowls
Reorganised freezer drawers(discovered a stray fruit split lolly that's pineappleso clearly has my name on to decluttering once zoolets safely packed off to bedGrin)

Nag dd2 do some homework rather than follow me round claw at my arm saying needs a hug(prays she Hurry's up and gets better)
Sort rest laundry into pile, ably abetted by the ever helpful lil zoo.I still seem to have at least another 5loadsShockclearly we have a breeding laundry situation(wonders if needs to separate pants into boy and girl pilesGrin)

I like bathroom.only zone I can detail clean as its clutter free.
Panicking slightly as I've been informed today sil is plan drive up early on Thurs and spend day with dh as funerals not til 245.she us queen of tidy and she's never spent more than fleeting time in my house as usually visits occured at hers or at park when weathers clement so zoolets and her dd could burn out a bit.
