October Fledgling thread 2016: where we fluff up our feathers and fall back in to autumnal Flying routines

Welcome to the October 2016 Fledgling Flying thread!

Come and park your broomsticks mops and buckets here!

This is where, from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here , here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Afreshstart Well done re: lists. You are putting me to shame! Early stages of labour and you have achieved far more than me this morning Blush. Don't over-do it though as you will need your strength Flowers

Really want to go out in sunshine but dd is looking white and says she feels dizzy so don't want to risk leaving her. Must tackle chores instead ... .

Waves to all!

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/10/2016 13:29

Waiting for update from Afreshstart
I must never permenantly in the naughty corner as I'm currently reading about missions a day late -let alone doing them!
Sorry for your bad news Grey
No space for a dishwasher here unfortunately. Unless I rip out a cupboard, but then I would have to store plates somewhere outside the kitchen...

afresh - I was two weeks from copious bloody show to birth with ds1 - I had full on massive Braxton Hicks that I had to breathe through for the next two long long weeks. I wish you a much much much faster time than I had waiting for him. Fingers crossed!

I have two hours of fundraising this morning, then the rest of the day will be spent in a madly flying vortex of 'crap, visitors arriving in the morning'. I'm not going to make a list. It would run to pages and pages. My main floor is not so bad thanks to flying - half an hour would cut through the CHAOS. Sadly the basement dwellers (of the teenage girl variety) have to be evicted to dd2's upstairs bedroom floor for tomorrow night to make room for the family of four coming to stay. And that is going to take some major work... The upside is, once it's done, it's done - and it will be much easier for them to keep on top of. (Har de har). I was reading the 'guest prep' thread in classics yesterday and cataloguing my failures. Here it is not so much stunt pineapple and fake dishwashing tableau but six hours of hard graft to find the carpet...
Dd1 is working until 1, so as soon as lunch is done, she's being sent down the mines to start shovelling... alongside hdd Grin. HDD's mum seems to be settling well in her new place. I'm unclear what an addict who has moved to access better support provision is doing lurking in a hemp shop (thanks fb) but I'm pretty sure it's not rocket science. (Looking for a more local supplier now she can't make use of her stepson's medical marijuana prescription.) Le sigh. But apparently the clothes are lovely...

Afreshstartplease · 08/10/2016 15:45

Nothing exciting going on here

Had to nip out for some bits and have ordered my food shop

Need to crack on in a min but am feeling sleepy , no cramps or back ache now

Afreshstartplease · 08/10/2016 15:50

DC1+2 I had on off contractions/slow labour for days with both then a full 12 hours established with both too

DC3 was out within 5 hours of first twinge

Never had a bloody show before, or lost plug or had waters break on there own. All that stuff is a mystery to me!

So far this time I've had tightenings, strong bh and period type pains for well over a week. Then the bloody show. I hope my time is soon!

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/10/2016 16:01

Big hugs for afresh andBrew
PC you are truly an angel taking in teen faced parent like that
On sending dds down the mines will they be taking a budgie?and is it shovel and skip job?!
Sending good vibes in your direction and assures you naughty corner will be stocked with all your requirements for latee

foxessocks · 08/10/2016 16:28

Ooh good luck afresh how exciting!!

I had a better night hooray! Ds is 2-3 hours between feeds instead of 1 hour so that was better and dhs work got cancelled last minute so I also lay in until 9.30 and he took children downstairs at 7 so very relaxing. I went into town with just ds this morning too which was nice and peaceful as I didn't have my dd asking thousands of questions bless her (I did miss her after a she though it was almost too quiet!!)

Anyway I have hardly done anything today other than a quick room rescue of bedrooms and cleaned the bathroom a bit. Dh did some tidying though and made some yummy cookies. Now if I can just persuade him to make dinner later I will feel thoroughly relaxed!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far and we may soon be welcoming new babies to the thread!

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/10/2016 17:23

nice to hear you got in a rest and little fox is doing well.hope this 3hour pattern at night maintained

I've done naff all but have a doze, pinterest and play alphabetty all pm.too much flying makes zoo a teachers petWinkGrin

I really should start thinking bout dinner, cept both dd2and lil zoo have now got poorly throats and want attention
Warnings have been issued not, repeat NOT to infect mumsy with their lurgys!!!!

Cagliostro · 08/10/2016 20:32

Hi everyone just checking in. Done bugger all today really

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/10/2016 20:43
pontificationcentral · 08/10/2016 21:23

It is definitely a shovel and skip job... but HDD is off out this afternoon and had already made some headway by the time I got back from fundraising. Yay! Dd1 was invited but has decided not to go, so now she is home from work and I have issued bacon sarnies to the troops, she's taking over the shovel... No budgies as the dogs will eat them...
Wish us luck!

Strikingclock · 08/10/2016 21:32

Great that you had a bit more sleep Foxes!

Hope you are resting Afreshstart!

Pont oh I loved that stunt pineapple thread! Oh no about your hdd's ma Sad. Hope the miners didn't strike!

Hope you remain lurgy-free Still

Waves to Fromwestoeast Cag and everyone else!

DD really quite poorly tonight. All her bones ache and she is streaming with cold. Made her some chicken noodle soup which we ate during Strictly and she seemed to revive a bit. Felt quite nostalgic watching her earlier in the day - she sort of regresses in age when she is ill - and she had got out all her remaining soft toys and dolls and organised all their clothes, some of which she has had since she was a toddler ... .

I on the other hand did absolutely no organising or Flying to speak of today apart from sorting out dw, rabbits, and washing gym kit and sports kit and tidying up a bit.

G'night all!

Hi all, definite Star for Mr Foxes. Hope the DC feel better soon and don't infect you zoo!

I will bring crisps to the naughty corner as have done very little flying today and no decluttering. Never even look at the missions.

But...
Ta das:-
Went for run
Wrote second draft of preschool report and have emailed out for approval Star so am very relieved / pleased
Bought presents, card and cake (I don't bake!) for DH. Giving myself extra brownie points for doing it with DCs so they helped choose things.

Will try to do some bits in the house tomorow!

Strikingclock · 08/10/2016 21:34

x post Pont with bacon sarnies it cannot fail!

Tomorrow's baby-step no 9, for Sun 9th Oct is here and reminds us that it takes 28 days to form a habit. It also discusses several ways in which we can declutter.

Newcomers - here is the launch pad from which you can navigate the site:
www.flylady.net/c/lp.php .

Tomorrow we will be starting in Zone 3 (the main bathroom plus one extra room 9th-15th inclusive) here.

I don't do zone work at weekends but for those that do - either declutter for 15 mins or, if you have already decluttered, do some detailed cleaning!.

No missions because it is the weekend! Yay!

The daily focus for Sunday is: renewing your spirit ie do something for you that you find calming and rejuvenating.

The habit for October is getting rid of paper clutter,
here: www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/october/.
(Scroll down for detailed explanation.)

The daily flight plan here: www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-120 will update itself (hopefully) and if you click on it tomorrow will provide a quick summary of the above.

Hope you all have relaxing Sundays!
