October Fledgling thread 2016: where we fluff up our feathers and fall back in to autumnal Flying routines

Welcome to the October 2016 Fledgling Flying thread!

Come and park your broomsticks mops and buckets here!

This is where, from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here , here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Afternoon All,

Not so much ta da'ing here, although after Monday's blitz fifteen minutes here & there has kept my ship running tight. Although DD & DH keep trying to derail my tidy hall😤. The Cat keeps bringing in Mice, DH needs to replace kick board underneath dishwasher. Cats bum sticking out from underneath dishwasher this morning before gifting me a dead mouse. That's 3 in the last 24 hours. Took the DD out yesterday to get her Conch pierced (it's a bit of the inner ear, you'll be relieved to learn😉). It was a reward for getting into an over subscribed Sixth Form we're not in the catchment for. MIL coming for dinner tonight 😖, copious amount of wine in the fridge it's the only way I'll make it through. Work tomorrow so MrsK may be a tad jaded & unproductive.

SC, I have contemplated & cogitated Mordor buts that's as far as its gone. So no need for a search party just yet, although may need Ibuprofen tomorrow! Sorry you're DD is unwell, there is definitely a nasty cold/sore throat malady doing the rounds. Hope you're back is fairing better too.

AF & FB, sending you best wishes, new baby's how exciting 😃.

GM, I did a meal plan before setting off to Supermarket today, normally I make it up as I go along. Got stuck in traffic though, 15 minute journey took 45!

FS, I am sorry you are having broken nights, but, I'm impressed with your "flying ". DD never slept, if it hadn't been for my late Mum, I don't know how I'd have got through it. Hope things settle down soon for you.

SL, sending you my condolences. I had to sort out the estates of my Mum & Uncle in the last few years. Clearing the house, was very hard, sorting through someone's life😔. Hope all goes well at the Doctors.

Waves to all the new fledglings. Sorry, I have missed people out. DDis getting impatient I need to drop her & BF off. Then it's back to greet MIL.

Wishing you all a nice evening

Honu · 09/10/2016 18:17

Ta da:-
10 mins new job prep
15 mins studying for course
Mini calendar check
Laundry (of course)

Didn't manage a proper calendar check but couldn't face it so will have to do tomorrow. Never seem to manage to get everything done!

Shesgotelectricboobs · 09/10/2016 22:17

Ta da:

  • 5 loads of washing done today!
  • bags in the car for tomorrow
  • bathrooms cleaned
  • floors hoovered

Have just shoved a load in the machine and set the timer for the morning.

And noticed catface had peed on a towel in her pop up tent. Totally our fault. We'd put the door/flap back on her litter tray. I guess she couldn't figure it out so used the next best thing. Towel is in a bucket of water and detergent soaking. Tent thing is in the bath.

Litter box door removed.

Checking in after going AWOL. No real flying since the middle of last week other than cleaning up sick, wiping noses, and trying to keep on top of the tidal wave of laundry threatening to take over my hallway. Main achievement from the weekend was managing to squeeze the king size duvet into the washing machine so we don't have to buy a new one.

Escaped yesterday to buy emergency rations and snuck in a 20 minute supermarket sweep style run around Next to pick up clothes for my post-cake body. Only one top works so the rest will have to go back but at least I have a nice new top to wear today for my first day back after maternity leave. And the circa 5 hour commute should mean enough time to meal plan for next week (if I can year myself away from fb).

celeste83 · 10/10/2016 08:27

Morning,

My to do list today:

wash dishes
make beds

Honu, how lovely, congratulations

HA, hope all goes well on your first day back, that's a long commute

Babblehag · 10/10/2016 09:31

Its nearly tomorrow!!! We have managed to convince the younger two to clean there room this evening when they come in from school. Ds1 always keeps his room fairly clean so no issues there, I'm going to mainly tackle it with 15 min bursts and a 15 min break, it should work. The living room is fairly tidy, kitchen and bedrooms need the most work, but it is manageable. dp mowed the lawn and took some bits to the tip yesterday so the garden isn't a worry anymore.

tada
made lunches
emptied dishwasher
loaded dishwasher
took ds3 to bus stop
took meds.

to do
clean house!!

will keep you updated

Babblehag · 10/10/2016 11:21

tada dump

washed pissy doormat
another load in washer and in dryer
cuboard fronts wiped
paperwork in kitchen sorted/hidden
washing folded and some put away
stairs fabreezed
bins emptied
table cleared.
another page added to bujo (doing this in my 15 min breaks)

Babblehag · 10/10/2016 11:28

I'm actually looking forward to having a tidy clean house, it might actually keep me motivated to keep on top of it and declutter it. It most definitely make it easier for me to do Avon bits as I wont be at home worrying about the cleaning. Dp has just surfaced after very little sleep, I suspect he smelled bleach and felt the need to get stuck in. I'd much rather he was getting the right amount of sleep though.

Afreshstartplease · 10/10/2016 12:16

Babblehag · 10/10/2016 13:15

Oh my, my hip is hurting so much, its the opposite one to the one I normally have issues with.

tada since last time,
walls and table wiped,
floor swept and mopped,
sink shined,
another load of laundry in and another in dryer, and another folded

dp has tidied our bedroom, but has also decided we now need the carpet down so he is currently doing that. (we moved in last christmas, no carpets etc as housing association house, but had one that the old landlord didnt want because the colour was wrong, despite being brand new and of a neutral colour) tbf its the only carpet left to be laid.

Greymalkin · 10/10/2016 14:47

Good afternoon everyone.

Thanks for the round-up SC, great way to keep everyone in mind.

Thanks for everyones messages of support, I really appreciate it. I has all happened really suddenly and it has been a real shock.

Everyone seems to be rather busy today. My day has not panned out the way it should have done...

I have four weeks temping work to do and this morning (my first day) I was there for less than an hour because DS was sick at nursery so I had to collect him and bring him home. He is now absolutely fine and bombing around the house, destroying things and getting under my feet.

We had to wave DH off this morning too as he is away for the whole week at work. Lots of tears all round, but it pays the bills so we are having to cope as best we can.

Ta da
Emptied dishwasher
x2 loads of laundry
Decluttered dining room table
Posted some letters
Returned library book

To Do
Online food shop
Hang up wet washing
List a few bits on eBay /Facebook selling sites
Declutter some more paper files
Declutter bathroom cupboards etc

Catch up with you all again later
