A bit behind here - dh went back into hosp for a few days. Hopefully a bit more sorted out now but he's mostly in bed feeling rubbish atm.

I took a box of toys to the chazzer earlier. But nothing else Kondo-like for a few weeks.
Hoping for a calmer week next week when I can just aim to get back on top of things (laundry chaos this week with no clean pe kit for sports day or uniform for school. Oops.).

Will try to catch up later.

JKSLtd · 21/06/2015 20:23

Pretty mess - sorry to hear the news. Hope dh is able to find something soon.

Pils for weekend - returned with a secondhand plastic dolls crib thing. Thanks mil! It also randomly plays music in the middle of the night. Yawn.

She also gave me a jacket that's too small for her which I actually like. Shock. So not all bad.

Ds2 has a teacher training day tomorrow so having a friend round. Just trying to keep things tidy will be enough.

prettymess · 21/06/2015 21:46

I've done some more of my clothes while folding to put away. Three tshirts gone with small holes and loose seams and they were a bit faded and too small. DH's old work polo shirts are out of his drawers. He has an empty drawer but hopefully a new work uniform will fill it! Smile

Iqueen · 21/06/2015 23:05

prettymess Fingers crossed that DH's drawer is soon filled! Wink

BrandNewIggi · 22/06/2015 22:45

Hello, I have done so little lately, I am an embarrassment to Madame Kondo. Still, school holidays start next week so should surely get some stuff done then.

educatingarti · 23/06/2015 10:06

Iggi - you and me both! I do have the excuse of bad toothache though!

prettymess · 23/06/2015 15:23

DH has an interview on Thursday. He's making me look bad, he's cleaning more than me.

Iqueen · 24/06/2015 09:21

Great news about the interview - best wishes to your DH, prettymess!

He's making me look bad, he's cleaning more than me.

It's the novelty! Grin

Hi, Can I join?

I've heard tonnes of feedback from people on the kondo kick. house is not too cluttered but toys EVERYWHERE and cupboards stuffed full of obviously not important crap stuff! Started on my clothes last night, everything that I didn't keep (bar 7 dresses that I'll ebay oops!) I put in a genie bag so once I've done kids and dh has done his I'll get it gone. Even folded underwear Blush

Followed it up with creating a new loose schedule for ds & dd (1&2) & I so feeling very motivated. Haven't read the book but lots of articles and youtube clips, would I really need to read it do you think?

educatingarti · 24/06/2015 11:31

Welcome Storybrooke! I'm still struggling to get basics done this week!

Hubb · 24/06/2015 14:05

Hello kondoers!!

I have had a massive long break from kondoing but ready to get back in the saddle! Not sure exactly why I stopped last time, I made really good progress though and the methods I put in place have stayed!

Did all my clothes and am still getting rid of stuff here and there that missed the first cull.

Current issue is that I am buying quite a lot of new clothes and don't want things to get how they were before, am trying to think very carefully about bringing anything new into my life though..

Was recently reunited with some old stuff that had been at my mums for years, got lots of my childhood toys like Barbies and my little ponys. Have one DS so far and planning one more maybe so I'm sure they will get some use eventually but just a bit peed off with the space they will take up. They bring some joy and I will have to have at least one play session with them myself before I get rid of themBlush so for now they are staying...

Iqueen · 24/06/2015 17:18

educatingarti Pain can be very wearing, so let the guilt/frustration go! If you can manage a little of maintenance, you'll be doing well! Flowers

Hubb Welcome back! Brew

What's wrong with you AND DS playing with the Barbies and MLPs, (if he's old enough)? Grin

I gave my oldest son a dolly, when his sister was born... stopped him attempting to poke her eyes out! Wink

MangoBiscuit · 25/06/2015 10:24

Hello all, I'm also coming back after a long absence. I almost finished last time, got half way through photos and 90% through sentimental. Everyone's clothes are still tidy (baby's needs a clear out though, to lose the outgrown, out of season stuff) and kitchen / fridge / freezer are still going strong. Also, the toys are still almost tidy, with the toy rotation working very well.

My surfaces are all cluttered again though. We've been having major building work done, so everything's been moved about. I've also kondo'd my job and started studying. But as I'm doing the odd bit of ad hoc I can't just throw my work things out. So I have house/life papers, school papers, building work papers, work papers, and study materials. My desk is looking awful. I know it's transitional, so I'm trying not to beat myself up about it, but it's really starting to grate. So instead of getting the painting done this morning, I am going to kondo my papers again.

Iqueen · 25/06/2015 11:12

Welcome back, MangoBiscuit! Brew

Brilliant that you got so close to the end, and even better, that you have managed to maintain, despite RL changes! Smile

Thanks for the update - it really helps plodders, like me! Wink

MangoBiscuit · 26/06/2015 09:30

Thank you Iqueen I do feel like I've slipped back a bit, especially with the surface clutter. Interestingly though, I don't think it's stressing me out as much as it used to, or perhaps I'm just less stressed in general after kondoing my job! Grin It all seems much more manageable now, which is probably right as there's so much less stuff.

CycleChic · 26/06/2015 09:37

hello everyone, I'm another old face coming back to the fold Blush

I have the day off to do this, and have pulled out the laundry basket and some of my reinactment costumes and I'm running out of steam. I don't WANT to pull out the ones in the loft - I'm scared of the dark this means that I'm not really interested in the hobby anymore, and while I''m pretty sure that I've a box of clothes up there, I was struggling to find it.

I DID find a tonne of baby-stuff, though. DD is 6 and we're NOT having any more, so we will need to get rid of a lot of it. Carboot sale or Gumtree, what do you all think?

I guess break-time is over, now back to Konodoing my clothes!

(for those who aren't stalking me: I skipped clothes except for underpants the last time I tried this, in March (I think?), because we'd replaced our closet in Jan so EVERYTHING had been gone thorugh then. Somewhere in papers I realised that I ought to re-start at the begining since January's purge wasn't "does this spark joy" but more "does it fit? will I wear it?", you know: the old-fasioned way of doing things.).

BrandNewIggi · 26/06/2015 09:43

Well this morning I have given myself permission to Kondo a pair of poo-filled underpants (we are potty training) rather than cleaning them - they certainly weren't bringing me joy!!

Iqueen · 26/06/2015 10:39

MangoBiscuit I don't think you've actually slipped back! Cluttered surfaces mean that you (and/or others!) are not tidying away promptly, OR kondoing is incomplete, because the Stuff hasn't got a proper home. Wink

I'm sure you'll get it sorted! I let my home get in a State, after I retired, because I thought 'I have plenty of time to do it later'! 'NOW', is becoming my new watchword! Smile

CycleChic Welcome back! Brew

It can be unnerving when we face up to letting Stuff go, because we have lost interest, but, hey, we do it all the time with food items! Also, it leaves space for something new or different! I've found that a couple of old hobbies have been revived, and others have been discarded. Life is very short, and I no longer want to give my precious time to things that don't bring me maximum joy. Grin

CycleChic · 26/06/2015 11:24

Life is very short, and I no longer want to give my precious time to things that don't bring me maximum joy.
Wise words, your Majesty :)
I've been through all my clothes and the costumes I actually wear I keep to hand instead of up in the loft. I'm rather pleased with the fact that only 1 bag is for charity out of normal clothing - it shows that I'd done a good job the last time Grin
Now to fold my pile of tops and convenience myself to let go of the ones I "need " but don't spark joy and start a shopping list of things where there's a gap in my wardrobe. Oh, and do shoes Blush

storybrooke · 26/06/2015 11:36

Really inspiring hearing others have stuck to it!

I've had a tonne on the past few days, little mans last day at playgroup before nursery, his nursery open day & I work a Thursday so I've only managed dh's underwear drawer since finishing mine. BUT after the kids playdate this afternoon I'll do their clothes and thats one category done Grin

On a side note, I skipped ahead and cleared the kitchen drawers so they're pretty much in the bin. We have so much room now!

CycleChic · 26/06/2015 11:46

Good feeling, isn't it, Storybooke :)
I loved people's progress pics, so here are my tops (including jersey dresses ) pants, and bra drawers.
(With a bit of Komono on the dresser, oops

I've got some days off coming up. Cannot wait to get tidying again!

CycleChic · 26/06/2015 16:09

Well, I'm off getting DD from school. I've finished books and got most of the papers done (which is where I'd stopped last time ). When we get home, I'm hoping to finish the papers that aren't in my "do something about " pile and then maybe I can finally start komono :)

JimmyCorkhill · 27/06/2015 10:17

Thank you to whoever posted about the 'one touch' rule. I'm sure it was on this thread but if not it was about trying to keep to one touch of an item. I will pick up dirty clothes from the bedroom floor then transfer them to the floor outside the bathroom (one touch of items). Then later on after walking over the pile for a day I pick them up again to put in the laundry basket (two touches). I find myself saying "one touch" when I go to put something away. It's really stopped me from doing that half tidying up. I am amazed at how many times I have to say it though Blush
