I think she was trying to say that she had reached her, personal, 'sweet spot', which is where we'll all stop discarding, and which'll be different for each of us. Smile

Now, where did I drop my 'ruthless' today? I've gone through the first 150+ books and it was looking very good, with 2 thirds in the 'out' pile. Having, supposedly, finished this lot, I'm still left with over half! Sad

Novels, biographies - easy peasy, but most are non-fiction reference books. Confused

I'll have to work on my ruthlessness, overnight! Wink

TeacupTravels · 15/06/2015 09:00

I did a massive book cull when I first read her book. Masses and masses. I normally don't miss them! I only get a pang in other houses as I like the look of them on the bookshelves and we passed on hundreds and hundreds.....

Our house is so small we really don't have the space and I'm allergic to dust.

I've started trying to follow the plan though and finished my clothes AND all the off season/kids next size up clothes that were under our bed. I really didn't need to keep half of what I'd put away.

Oh and I folded my pjs and the clothes I was putting away to store for next size up. I like the folding after being suspicious! The t shirts and soft dresses are just normally folded on shelves though.

I'm onto the next task today! I think the tricky bits will be all the paper and bits of crap and hair bands and things floating around the house. We have a tiny space and don't currently have rooms for everything to go to. I'd so love it if we could truly get to a point where there's a home for everything. We probably will need more storage/shelves/something but I'm following the book and holding off that bit!

Iqueen · 15/06/2015 09:49

TeacupTravels Well done, with the clothes! I'm still regularly returning to mine... diefinitely a WIP, as I'm continuing to change my mindset!

I need to do some RL chores today, but my 'books' motivation re-charged overnight and I'm determined to clear them off the stairs today, as (after several years!) they are now completely intolerable. That means that I shall have to kondo more books, from the 'proper' bookshelves, to home the ones I'm keeping! So, a busy day ahead! Grin

I'm feeling more and more invigorated and... even looking forward to my mountains of paperwork! Shock

prettymess · 15/06/2015 09:57

After looking at a YouTube video, seems I was folding wrong. I redid my clothes to smaller rectangles and it makes more sense. They stay upright.

prettymess · 15/06/2015 10:00
Iqueen · 15/06/2015 11:38

prettymess If you were folding them like this video, but once you had the basic rectangle, were just folding in 3 - that is how MK did them.

This video folds the rectangle in half then 3, which makes a tighter package, and stands up better (more creases?). It doesn't make use of the drawer height, which is what makes the extra space in the drawer.

Still. whatever works for each of us! Grin

educatingarti · 15/06/2015 11:45

Morning your maj. Hope you had a good weekend! No Kondoing done here I'm afraid and now feeling a bit overwhelmed about how much I have to do this week which isa bit daft since I should have plently of time really if I stop messin on MN and get on with it !

prettymess · 15/06/2015 15:24

So I was folding how KM taught us. Aha!

NotCitrus · 16/06/2015 07:54

Congratulations stiff! And good luck prettymess.
I roll trousers and it works as that drawer is tall - tops go on hangers. I now have a smaller filing cabinet in my room with photos of the kids and me + MeNCken which is lovely, but will have to revisit paperwork soon as there's not much spare space and I really want paperwork to be in there and nowhere else!

Compulsive buying friend is minding dd today so we have now got an extra bunch of books, toys, and craft items - the house has been taken over by some giant furry pipe cleaners that look scarily like Tribbles. Hopefully I can scoop up most of the latest lot tonight and donate it to school - they love CBF...

NotCitrus · 16/06/2015 07:55

That's a pic of me and MrNC - I have no idea what MeNCken is or why my autocorrect keeps suggesting it...

Iqueen · 16/06/2015 12:03

educatingarti Good morning. We spint the weekend indivouring to weed ite the volumes orn the grend starcase - again. We steel hev far too many! Severil are extremely old, end mach-laved. Grin It is so difficult being 'royal' - sounding out words for ridiculous spellings! Which leads me to NotCitrus and OPs and their apologies/comments on Predicative Text!

I have a very basic mobile phone - text and calls only. It strikes me that PT is really more trouble than it's worth. We all make mistakes (and I've noticed my mistakes when posting here - after submitting!) Who bothers to preview anyway? It occurs to me that PT causes far more mistakes, which are often much harder to interpret than accidental spelling mistakes/omissions anyway! Why don't people turn it off? [confused}

Iqueen · 16/06/2015 12:05

See - I really am confused! Grin

educatingarti · 17/06/2015 09:56

Headline in the Arti household:

Tooth trauma stops Kondoing ( and many other things)!

Iqueen · 17/06/2015 10:40

OMG, educatingarti Flowers

educatingarti · 17/06/2015 11:56

Thanks for the flowers Iqueen. Feeling rather battered today!

Went to the dentist yesterday for what I expected would be root canal treatment (bad enough!). He discovered that there was a crack in the tooth so it needed to be extracted. He tried to extract the tooth but couldn''t get the roots out! So now he is referring me to the dental hospital to have the roots removed! So I suppose I have Kondoed part of a tooth (but could do with the rest going ASAP!)

Today I ache all over! neck and back as well as headache, swollen face and very sore mouth.

In other news the car is back at the garage after its MOT last week. Assoon as I got it back from MOT, the boot wouldn't unlatch properly. Garage mechanic is denying anything was caused by his staff but has agreed to fit a new latch without charging for labour if I pay for the part!

Iqueen · 17/06/2015 14:07

educatingarti Comiserations! What a bugger!

Has the dentist given you pain killers? If not, 2 Ibuprofen with 2 Paracetamol are pretty good. According to my pharmacist, they are safe together and work in different ways, but work much better together. Apparently, Ibu also has a slight antibiotic effect, which might combat any infection starting. In my experience that seems to be true.

My car's in the same situation - MOT last week and after exhaust repairs, started rattling before I got it the 2 miles home. It's got worse and now leaks fumes into the car! Perhaps we used the same garage! Grin

educatingarti · 17/06/2015 14:58

I am taking paracetamol and ibuprofen and it is helping (feel much worse as they start to wear off!)

Do you live in Greater Manchester Iqueen - if not won't be same garage!
I now have to decide whether to kondo the car or not - apparently it may soon need a new starter motor and timing chain so I have to decide whether to get that done (£400+) or give up and get another car!

prettymess · 17/06/2015 17:19

DH has now been made redundant. We're sorting stuff out tomorrow with tax credits, job seekers (if its even still called that nowadays!)... I'm trying to look at it positively. DH really liked his job though.

Starface · 17/06/2015 21:32

Oh pretty sorry to hear that Flowers

Hope he finds something better soon

NotCitrus · 17/06/2015 23:42

Sorry to hear of redundancy, MOT and teeth woes. Our car has passed the MOT and the fourth compressor they got from a junkyard has fixed the aircon, but the on-switch is now dead and they can't find a new switch. They did swap the old car's spare wheel for one for the new car, which was nice.

Have kondoed my categories of Fucking Furry Pipe Cleaners and Wooden Beads, but will take the next month to be sure I've found them all. Though the category of Hideous Macramé Shit has been binned. The water beads (like used in flower arranging) are being an experiment for ds, but will be donated shorty. Along with the half-dozen new books and ugly cuddly toys and random wooden educational thingies...

Sigh. It's sort of free babysitting only we have to make sure CBF has money to get home and food to eat for the rest of the week. She has so many good qualities but taking over my house with bits of wool and lurid Tribble sticks rather detracts from that...

educatingarti · 18/06/2015 09:18

NotCitrus
I love the Fucking Furry Pipe Cleaners and Wooden Beeds categories! Who what is CBF? ( Did I miss something on a previous post?)

Struggling here to keep up with washing and emptying dishwasher let alone anything else. Still in quite a lot of pain!.

So sorry to hear about DH's redundancy PrettyMess!

prettymess · 18/06/2015 10:51

Thanks all. DH is filling in forms. As a positive, I went to Weight Watchers this morning and had lost 1.5 lbs.

NotCitrus · 19/06/2015 01:09

Arti - Compulsive Buying Friend. Sort of godparent to the kids, unemployed so often available for childcare help, but autistic and Has to buy things that are helpful for children's development. All of them...

So a day of childcare for well-but-not-allowed-to-return-to-nursery dd resulted in a huge pile of shit. Mostly because I wasn't around to make her take most of it away again. And then dd loved the water beads so much she chucked them all over the floor as soon as I wasn't looking. So now will be stepping on random jelly balls as well as wooden beads, forever...

educatingarti · 19/06/2015 09:33

Ah Ok - I remember now!

Suggest huge pile of shit developmental activities kondoed to nursery asap where it can benefit the maximum number of children possible!

Iqueen · 19/06/2015 15:54

Ha ha! Wait till the children are 30+... it doesn't get any better, except it's shit stuff they 'forgot' to move out to their own homes! Grin

Just getting over withdrawal symptoms - the Internet crashed here at lunchtime yesterday! Only just come back, so I did a load of laundry and... housework! Shock
