prettymess- you could try living in a first-floor flat!

Iqueen - glad you are feeling so happy and getting loads done.

A small amount of work-based kondoing done yesterday. More paper for the recycling! Not enough that you'd notice any difference though!

JKSLtd · 10/06/2015 22:18

Bogged down in RL.

Dh not well again. Latest procedure yesterday didn't work. Stent has gone awol in the bile duct. New appt for next week for alternative plan. Great fun. Not.

A few outgrown pants went to nursery today. And new mcds toys came in. Sigh.

Iqueen · 11/06/2015 08:23

JKSLtd I have 3 plastic stents in my ('baggy') CBD! Originally they were changed every 3 months, but not now for 2 years. I have strict instructions on immediate action if I get symptoms, have a monthly blood test and see the endoscopist every 6 months. Saw him last week.

I am well aware of the risks, but prefer this regime to repeated endoscopies, with the threat of infection each time.

I also eat a pretty high fat (low carb) diet which keeps the flow of bile constant and seems to prevent more stones forming.

Hope your DH improves soon. Smile

JKSLtd · 11/06/2015 09:01

Thanks Iqueen.
Interesting about the high fat diet. He's had his gall bladder out and I thought he was meant to be more careful about fat in his diet.

It's just yet another thing to go wrong. Or not to plan. It moving upwards wasn't even mentioned as a possibility - they sometimes move down and out. He doesn't ask questions of doctors so no real clue what the plan is for next week yet. If whatever it is doesn't work (high probability with him!) the. He might have to stay in for a week until they try 'proper' surgery. Possibly re plumbing the whole area.

I'm just on a downer atm about it all.

educatingarti · 11/06/2015 10:19

Sorry things are hard atm JKS!

Iqueen · 11/06/2015 10:52

JKSLtd Try to keep calm. Of course, it's a worrying situation, but you can't do anything about it. Just go with flow, and leave it to the professionals. Flowers

The re-plumbing is what I am avoiding, at present, although the outcome stats are good.

They always advise low-fat diets for gall-bladder problems, but I love my natural fats and have never noticed any connection between them and my problem.

In some of the medical research papers that I read, I discovered that sudden, substantial weight loss, is significantly often followed by gall-stones. This happened to me through a stressful crisis, not diet, just loss of appetite, 5 years ago - lost 5 stone in 3 months! Shock

I discussed it with my endoscopist and we concluded that, if the gall-bladder (which I stll have) or liver (which can also produce stones) do not empty of bile regularly, bile salts etc can become concentrated and form into stones, more easily.

Seems to be the case with me, as I now have fat at every meal, and my stents should have blocked 15 months ago! Grin

BTW, still overweight, but have maintained the 5st loss; normal BP and cholesterol 4!

keep your chin up!

JKSLtd · 11/06/2015 15:18

Tx Iqueen Smile

Starface · 11/06/2015 19:30

I've said it before, but your ability to keep going and somehow miraculously keep kondoing is actually inspiring jks. Its inspiring me to stop whinging about my own more minor difficulties. Xx

JKSLtd · 11/06/2015 22:11

Aw Starface!

I'm not doing anything special. Especially in the Kondo dept!!

Everyone has stuff going on. Sometimes I cope with what life throws at me sometimes not. This week has felt like not. But hey dh isn't down. He sees next Tuesday as a good day. He is an eternal optimist lol.

Iqueen · 12/06/2015 09:11

JKSLtd Take a tip from your DH, turn yourself into an optimist! Flowers

I have (necessarily?) been the the eternal pessimist, for most of my life, as a lone-parent. I was constantly, trying to foresee all the possible scenarios, and working out solutions for each!

Since I started kondoing, I have realised that life is a lot easier and happier as an optimist!

Things happen, which we can't control, and some, we can't do anything to improve, we just have to watch and wait, but we do not have to constantly worry about them. The only things to think about, are the things that we can do something about.

The tranquility that this has brought me is a revelation! Smile

NotCitrus · 12/06/2015 21:59

My house is still a tip (dd has just learnt to use scissors so confetti all over) but I'm certainly seeing joy-giving things all over and anything that reminds me of bad stuff I'm trying to get rid even if it's actually useful.

Today we acquired a shorter, nice-looking filing cabinet to go in my room, to replace the tall ugly one. Freecycle ftw again! So tomorrow I get exercise from emptying the old one, getting it outside, putting new one in place, and filling it. I'll be tied to the house with poorly contagious dd and bored ds, so will either Kondo a lot or overdose on Peppa Pig...

prettymess · 13/06/2015 08:30

Company DH works for has gone into administration. Looks like hard times ahead of us.

educatingarti · 13/06/2015 09:07

Sorry to hear that prettymess. Sad

Iqueen · 13/06/2015 09:59

prettymess Keep that positive kondo feeling - opportunities will come, possibly, even happier ones. Flowers

Focus on making changes that you can, to combat this difficult period, and try to ignore the things that you can't change. Keep smiling!

prettymess · 13/06/2015 12:50

Thanks, it's amazing how much KM has changed my attitude in life. We're just waiting to see what happens when he goes in on Monday.

stiffstink · 13/06/2015 22:39

Hope things improve soon pretty.

I am pregnant, early days so not sure of date. Is it bad that one of my first thoughts was "cool, I can kondo the million baby things in the loft to just the stuff I need/want!"

SimplyRedHead · 14/06/2015 07:34

This is how much stuff I have got rid of - just from my wardrobe.

I kept track of everything and I sold, gave away or ragged 43% of my wardrobe!

My husband did his yesterday and for rid of 60%!

Hooray!

Kondo thread 8
prettymess · 14/06/2015 07:38

Simplyredhead that's amazing. Loads to sell, what are you using?

SimplyRedHead · 14/06/2015 08:07

Thanks! What's amazing is that I went through my wardrobe about 6 months ago and thought I'd done it properly.

Kondo really is a different mindset - I love it!

I'm selling via Facebook. I was really strict - anything that hadn't sold in 5 days went to the charity shop. I only sold about 10/70 things and sold them very cheaply but they didn't hang around so it was worth it.

I've done all the kids wardrobes too - about 30% gone for each of them. Mostly charitied but half a black sack for sale.

There are about 3 black sacks waiting to go on eBay - anything that doesn't sell first time round is going to charity.

All the clothes will be out the house one way or another this time next week.

I LOVE IT!

Starting books this eve and plan to do the whole lot in one go. Paperwork will take about 10 years though!

JimmyCorkhill · 14/06/2015 09:44

Delurking to say good morning and thanks for being so inspiring all of you Flowers

I did post on the old minimalism threads and the earlier ones of these, but have fallen off the wagon for a while. Have finally caught up on this thread. DH is taking the DC out today to give me a break and I am really excited to get kondoing Grin

DH has just had a milestone birthday and his mum gave him some albums of memorabilia from his childhood. I have saved soooo much stuff for my DC to do a similar thing. Well, it was so........boring!! Pages of birthday cards/repetitive school reports/multiples of photo's (eg. 4 of DH as a baby in a pram but maybe he had turned his head slightly in each photo). It really made me rethink the 'archiving' I've been doing.

TeacupTravels · 14/06/2015 09:47

Properly ok doing my clothes now, finally! There's peace in the house and space on my bed!

A couple more folding questions.... Im planning to fold where I can but do people keep up folding undies??

Also I have t shirts etc on shelves. Wouldn't make sense to kondo fold and put in a basket as I can visually see them on the shelf without opening anything! Will fold them normally again though!

And.... I normally fold clothes when they come out of the dryer.... But I can't kondo fold them them as they need to sit in place to stand up. I'm being thick but does that mean logistically taking pile of quashed unfolded clothes to the bedroom to then kondo fold? I normally sort and fold downstairs as I go!
Thanks everyone. I'm really going to do this rather than think it's a good idea and forget it!

Starface · 14/06/2015 09:51

Just wanted to wish you all the best pretty mess, and that I hope somehow this becomes an opportunity to rethink and find a new way forward, rather than a disaster, even if it does end being sticky in the short term.

TeacupTravels · 14/06/2015 09:51

Oh I read a huff post article where she kondod her apartment in 5 hours.... She was young but gosh I couldn't do my room in 5 hours never mind the house!!!

prettymess · 14/06/2015 13:21

There's an article about KM in the Observer/Guardian today but can't quite tell if she likes it or not.

thatstoast · 14/06/2015 13:41

Odd article, she seems to half understand it. The point is if you keep things that bring you joy, you won't be living in white nothingness.
