Yes - congratulations to Iqueen!

MightilyOats · 03/05/2015 00:47

The checkout guy in sainsbos was very taken with my kondoed bags for life when I went in today - I've got them all folded into thirds and thirds again and in an IKEA skubb box which I put in the separate bit at the end of the trolley. It was a bit quicker as I could just grab the one I needed instead of rummaging like I usually do

Congrats your maj Smile

Took a load more books and assorted bits and pieces to the charity shop today, rejoicing in every item leaving the house for good. Those of you with stockpiles, if you have access to a car then choose the charity shop with the best access and take the lot. It will be a lovely release and weight off your shoulders!

BrandNewIggi · 03/05/2015 08:01

Do charity shops open on Sundays, or bank holidays? I always feel the time I have off doesn't match up! Brought a load of crockery to a Bethany shop recently which was good, as well as selling them they can also give them to a rehomed person. My local Marie Curie always look a bit sniffy when I bring stuff in. Blush

Does anyone have a way of storing the larger canvassy supermarket bags? I use them for shopping and for carrying laundry around in, but they are enormous and take over the kitchen!

BrandNewIggi · 03/05/2015 08:03

This sort of thing..

Keep in the car or hung on hooks in a cupboard/behind doors?

BrandNewIggi · 03/05/2015 08:19

Yes I think hanging up would be better. They start out lovely and flat but are twice as bulky once opened out! Have had a shot at folding one but don't think I would keep it up!

My canvas bags live above the fridge at the moment but that's a temporary solution really.

I've decided to crack on with my stuff rather than incorporate DS into my kondoing. I've been procrastinating over his clothes so will just move onto my books. I'm looking at a shelf now and thinking all but one can go to charity.

I'm lucky that there's a lot of charity shops near my office so I can pass on stuff in small batches over the course of a few days.

CycleChic · 03/05/2015 08:28

We fold them flat, then fold up from the bottom using the base as a guide, then fold it in half widthwise. DH has always been into folding carrier bags Hmm and that's the way these seem to work for us.
pre Konodo picture God knows when the post picture will happen as bags are way down my list! the blue baskets slide back into a useless 30 cm gap between the wall and the kitchen cupboards- I'm sure a trusty shoe box or 5 would also work! Grin

To basically what BNIggy posted :D

BrandNewIggi · 03/05/2015 08:43

Oooooh, Cyclechic, I have a veg trolley, that holds fruit at the top and assorted junk underneath - except it now has a neat collection of about 6 of those bags on it, taking up so much less room than before! Thanks for the tip!

CycleChic · 03/05/2015 08:52

Anyway, it's been a while since I posted here. I've moved past paperwork and have done makeup, lotions and potions, and medicine after accidentally using expired calamine lotion on DD! That stuff honks and stings when it goes off! full carrier bag of the stuff to Boots and my bathroom looks gorgeous!

I've also started dealing with the paper in my "to deal with" basket: i sent some ancient postcards because that sparked more joy than recycling them (they were for people I still have addresses for), I took my Life in the UK test to Konodo the hassle of renewing my visa in a few years, and I filled in my PPI reclaim forms. Those have only been sitting around for a year now! KonMari's insistance that paperwork doesn't spark joy so should be dealt with as quickly as possible inspired me to move these on from the massive to deal with file!
Not sure what to do next. .. The "tupperware" collection mostly reeled ice cream tubs has been doing my head in, but the next biggest and scariest is half finished craft projects.

CycleChic · 03/05/2015 08:54

Xp! Happy to help, BNIggi!

prettymess · 03/05/2015 10:56

I've read the book again. I've joined the FB Konmari Adventures group. Instagram also has a lot of before and afters for inspiration!

Still have a few categories to do and my back is hurting a lot. So pacing myself and trying to get a little bit done every day.

thatstoast · 03/05/2015 11:16

Just manage to injure my finger while lugging a huge box of books downstairs. Caught my hand between the box and the stairgate lock. Hurt like hell. Hopefully I'll be able to cross that category off by the end of the day and it'll have been worth it.

prettymess · 03/05/2015 11:48

I've got a friend picking up a car seat later. He asked what I wanted for it. Nothing, I said. In my head, I thought that the joy of children being safe in his car was enough!

Iqueen · 03/05/2015 11:51

I really envy OPs with a Cash for Clothes place nearby, and those, who can get clothes collected.

Goodness knows how many years ago, I got a charity bag (Sally Army or Barnardos, I think) through the door and left that, and 3 others, to be collected. Brilliant! And I didn't miss a thing.

Just goes to show - I used to be good at getting rid of Stuff! Sad

Rummikub · 03/05/2015 12:31

So you'll be able to do it again iqueen I'm sure.

I've never been good at it so have to learn. Former hoarder. I kept everything Blush

Iqueen · 03/05/2015 13:21

Rummikub My mindset has definitely changed, thanks to MK. Just don't know what made me start holding on to stuff I no longer want/need. Perhaps it was the MP? Funny things can happen at that time. Confused

I'm still dreading the knock on the door from some TV company, wanting me to 'star' in the next hoarding series! But, I should soon start to see real progress, as I get Stuff out of the house.

I've never been keen on chores - I would find any excuse to avoid them! But, now, the excess Stuff is really annoying me, as I have the urge to clean everywhere! Grin (I'm even looking forward to scrubbing the old quarry tiled floor in the kitchen!)

My vision is being able to carry out my hobbies in peaceful, clean surroundings and invite friends round, together with quick, easy chores to maintain my sanctuary. Smile

Rummikub · 03/05/2015 14:17

That's a lovely vision. :)

I think I started hoarding when I left home. We never had much stuff growing up. But now like you I crave an uncluttered life and home.

prettymess · 03/05/2015 14:23

That vision is so nice. Mine is similar.

Cherrypi · 03/05/2015 15:04

Sorted out the suitcase above the wardrobe and only kept two jumpers and a pair of shoes. The case itself is going to the tip as it's broken and held together with tape. Twenty two years service from that case so not bad. Will be brave and venture into the loft later this week for the last case. I've always been getting rid of a few things as I go. Came across a bag of toiletries and make up on top of the wardrobe. Had a quick check for joy and binned it.

stiffstink · 03/05/2015 17:34

My bags for life etc live in the boot of the car, plus a few folded in the pocket of the buggy. They get emptied after shopping then back to their homes.

Dh on the other hand gets carrier bags every time he shops, which luckily isn't often. Those bags live in the bottom drawer in the bathroom, neatly folded.

I can't believe how joyful I find it to be able to explain my method! What has happened to me?!

JKSLtd · 03/05/2015 20:01

I fold most of mine then they go into another one and hang off the end of the radiator in the hall. It does for now.
Some are meant to live in the car boot too but rarely get put back there. Looking at you dh!

BrandNewIggi · 03/05/2015 20:04

Iqueen, I would love to not panic when the door rings, and be able to bring someone on after just throwing a few toys in a box. One day!
