Is anyone doing the January cure?

larryphilanddave · 22/12/2014 19:07

I first discovered it (thanks to MN!) for Jan 2014 but didn't do it - ended up having to move so wasn't really up for the tasks of 'wash floors, buy flowers' etc as had too much else to do.

However just got the email for Jan 2015 and I'm thinking, maybe I'll give it a go. Anyone else in?

I've dipole almost all my floors save half of our lower round floor and the hall, please give me that final push I need...

MorelloKisses · 04/01/2015 17:00

Dipole?

Now I feel silly

Fizziebizzie1 · 04/01/2015 17:09

That's me sat down with a cuppa after finishing the floors - hoovered carpets/rugs and cleaned the wood floors. Must confess I didn't move the heavy furniture!
I haven't bought flowers - might have to nip out and get some garage ones while I'm on a roll....

Karbea · 04/01/2015 17:40

I've still got the hall, cloakroom, study, downstairs bathroom, kitchen and utility room, stairs to do, I'll have to do those tomorrow. All hoovered just need washing. I did get the lounge done, so feeling proud!
Need to cook dinner now, then I need a shower etc. need to get up at 5:20 for work tmr, so calling it a day now, but will continue tmr when I'm back from work. Shouldn't take too much longer

IDidNotKnowThat · 04/01/2015 17:51

Are you done yet morello?

If not, GET ON WITH IT! Wink

nicknamenonsense · 04/01/2015 18:52

I did not I totally understand the living in a building site. We have done up three houses in the past and this is the first house we have owned that did not need lots of work when we moved in. I think that is a big part of why we have done practically nothing since moving in to this house 4 1/2 yrs ago and why I am now so determined to do this house justice!

We have been out most of the day for a lovely walk with friends followed by a late Sunday lunch (it's my birthday tomorrow) so floors have not been very high on my agenda but DS room got a quick hoover last night and I have just done the kitchen again since we came in. The only areas not to be looked at are the utility, downstairs bathroom and DD's room but after two glasses of wine they can wait until tomorrow!!
Hope everyone is pleased with their weekends efforts, I'm also looking forward to the upcoming tasks, especially the more creative / improve (not clean) your home ones. Well done to everyone who has completed their whole house :)

Rainbowdash23 · 04/01/2015 19:13

Failed this weekends task due to the worlds most persistent cold virus living with me! Hoping I can get cracked on while DS is at school tomorrow!

larryphilanddave · 04/01/2015 19:51

I have been tending to my herb planter, but neglected my floors Blush Well now that's just poor form...

I've heard that some people draw the tasks out over several months - don't think I want to do that - but I may have to chop and change a little, it's difficult to do the floors whilst 2yo is awake but I'm so sleepy by evening (newborn with a cold and night feeding). 2yo will be back in daycare soon so will have more flexibility then.

I have however gone around the home and noted down things that need addressing, as I felt that I should do something, ahem.

I have done all the downstairs floors. Moved furniture and everything. Also did stairs, but stopped there as I ran out of time. I'm off tomorrow, so I hope I can finish it then.

Going into hospital for an op on Tues though (so that'll take care of the flowers), so not sure how I'll get on after that. I'm advised to have 2 weeks on the couch; I do have a long handled duster.... Grin

Those of you who are washing carpets, are you doing it properly with vax/carpet cleaner thing? Or just going over it with the mop?

callamia · 04/01/2015 20:24

Sound useful. We have a tendency to clutter, and I need to get DS's own room ready for him.

PolkadotRosa · 04/01/2015 22:21

Job almost done. Still need to do the conservatory, which is currently housing boxes of decs and packed up tree that need putting in the garage. Back in work tomorrow (boo-hiss) but aiming to do it afterwards. Car done though! (Technically by DH... but still doneSmile)

Karbea · 04/01/2015 22:23

gabriola I used my vax.

nicknamenonsense · 05/01/2015 07:55

I've just had a look at the overview of the month and Weds has 'Purge the Pantry'. I know this is probably an obvious question but for those of you who have done the Cure before is this about going through my cupboards and getting rid of out of date food or stuff I don't use? I have friends over Weds eve so am trying to get ahead today and tomorrow!!

RunningKatie · 05/01/2015 10:24

I am still trying to do my floors but the hoover is just chucking everything I hoover out of the back. Sad I can't figure it out so need DH to take a look.

However, I've written a huge project list, room by room so can do things in bite sized chunks.

IDidNotKnowThat · 05/01/2015 11:58

Morning all!

Have I missed a 'make a project list' task, or are you lot all ahead of the game? Grin

RunningKatie · 05/01/2015 13:22

The project list was task 1 of last year, and as I'm failing badly at cleaning floors I thought I'd try and focus my efforts before I lost all motivation.

IDidNotKnowThat · 05/01/2015 13:31

Ahh, OK thanks. I'm hoping it will come up as a mid-week task - I love making lists (not always so great at checking things off however).

Karbea · 05/01/2015 14:37

The list task has just come through as task 2.
I've a question about it though.
It says write a list of everything that needs doing and then write a list of 3-5 things per room, surely there's no point writing all the other things if we are only going to do the 3-5 per room?
Not going to get the floors finished today, might have to push them back til Thursday and the stairs Sat when dh is back around.
Will do the list tonight, are we going to share lists?

Karbea · 05/01/2015 16:27

I have 76 jobs :/

Karbea · 05/01/2015 16:30

77 just added another one.

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 05/01/2015 16:41

I took it to mean write down everything, then prioritize 3-5 things per room to do during this month. It may be easier to prioritize once we get it all down first.

I have 49 jobs so far.

RunningKatie · 05/01/2015 16:45

I've done a list per room, I dread the prioritising but dh is a bit onboard with the big declutter & clear up so hopefully will help with some of the tasks.

It was nice going upstairs earlier as I did the floors in the dcs rooms so am no longer skating across books and toys to close curtains Smile

PrimalLass · 05/01/2015 16:51

I missed the first one, but had given the floors a good hoover on the 2nd anyway. That'll have to do. Will tackle the list tonight.

Karbea · 05/01/2015 17:12

I think I might just work through the list rather than picking a few tbh. Some are big, some are small but I don't think it really matters which I pick.

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 05/01/2015 18:27

I have 26 things on the edited 3-5 items per room list. Some of them are huge tasks though... Have emailed landlord about fixing the broken tiles in bathroom, and installing a fan to stop it all getting mouldy all the time. Have also pestered colleague for the contact details of the cheap Lino man he used as new Lino in the kitchen, downstairs loo and upstairs bathroom, would make a HUGE difference, the stuff that is there now is frankly hideous.

Feeling positive! Also really happy as some rooms I struggled to think of things as we have been doing the house up and decluttering all year. It's made me see how much progress we have made already.
