Is anyone doing the January cure?

I first discovered it (thanks to MN!) for Jan 2014 but didn't do it - ended up having to move so wasn't really up for the tasks of 'wash floors, buy flowers' etc as had too much else to do.

However just got the email for Jan 2015 and I'm thinking, maybe I'll give it a go. Anyone else in?

Kitchen done & sofa in dining room moved out, floor and skirtings hoovered and cleared of all toy cars and random objects that my little boy seemingly enjoys posting down the back of! Kitchen done, so tomorrow I'll tackle the other rooms and under beds. I definitely won't be shifting any drawers though Larry - love your herb planter TLC plan btw- but will lug out the toy box etc to stare in wonderment at crap behind clean behind.
Yes we've got until Monday Karbea and Tribpot (good job!)

Hello to everyone else..
Nickname I think that's a good idea setting a goal of two rooms, how did you get on?

Christmasbargainshopper · 02/01/2015 22:35

Hmmm, it takes me about 90 minutes to do a 'quick' Hoover, so not really looking forward to doing a furniture moving one.

Rainbowdash23 · 03/01/2015 01:15

All signed up and ready to give it my best shot!! :)

spiderbabymum · 03/01/2015 09:09

PolkadotRosa · 03/01/2015 09:49

Yes Spiderbabymum I received mine. Maybe try registering again? www.apartmenttherapy.com/join-us-get-organized-in-2015-the-january-cure-214196

My bedroom done :)
One down, only 11 more rooms / areas to do!!!
On the positive side a lot of sorting & tidying has happened alongside the hoovering so it looks a lot better and a lot of things have been sorted for either the bin or the charity shop so overall I am pleased so far.
Now off to tackle a quick fix so I can feel like a couple more areas are done. DS has said he will do the stairs (I'm guessing he means one flight, we have three flights in total) & DH is going to do the sitting room so we will get through it slowly, though not necessarily all of it by tomorrow evening, but as I am on leave Mon & Tues I will have more time to catch up then if necessary.
Happy hoovering everyone :)

tribpot · 03/01/2015 12:00

Ugh. I haven't even started. Just looking at the amount of crap everywhere is not inspiring. I'm only intending to fling the crap in a box, not do a proper sort (as I will never finish this task this month otherwise) but now I have to find boxes ... etc.

Vivacia · 03/01/2015 12:40

It sounds as though you live in a very large house nickname

We did upstairs to varying degrees of thoroughness. Came downstairs to find that in our absence there were muddy paw prints all the way through, even in the rooms muddy paws aren't allowed, so we ended up doing both floors today.

Think I will probably swap over MrsM's 52 Week Thing. I just can't see how having clean floors on the 3rd January will set my "apartment" up for rest of the year.

nicknamenonsense · 03/01/2015 13:04

I don't live in a big house, it is just tall & thin, basically 2 rooms per floor plus a crappy small extension on the bottom which will hopefully be coming down later in the year.
Sitting room, spare room & shower room now done as well as hall but that isn't getting ticked off my list until the stairs and tiny landing are done too.
Off out now, planning on doing the kitchen floor later which will be a quicky too (unless I move the fridge!!)

holmessweetholmes · 03/01/2015 13:47

Right... about to start the hoovering! Will buy flowers tomorrow.

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 03/01/2015 14:29

Marking my place now.

I already have wooden flowers on a table in the hallway and DP swept all of downstairs while I'm hoping to do upstairs if the stomach bug plague that has descended upon my house passes through fast enough!

IDidNotKnowThat · 03/01/2015 16:45

I'm in Smile

House is 50% building site, as a long term do-er upper (7 years and counting Hmm) but no excuse for it to also be a filthy hovel in the areas we do live in.

Signed up last night but fortuitously had cleaned downstairs floors yesterday after taking tree etc down.

Have just spent 2 hours solid on upstairs and having a tea break before I attempt to find homes for all the crap dislodged.

Already have houseplants everywhere so have lit a posh candle in lieu.

Going to try and keep up on this thread to keep motivated! Am also doing dry January Hmm so a nicer environment won't go amiss.

Christmasbargainshopper · 03/01/2015 18:30

Hoovering done, but will move furniture on rotation as per fly lady. Nice new pot plant at front door Smile

Karbea · 03/01/2015 19:35

Got some roses today, floors/carpets are a job for tomorrow.

WipsGlitter · 03/01/2015 19:37

Hoover blew up doing the pine needles! Think it's recovered so will finish the floors tomorrow. Got flowers though!

Karbea · 04/01/2015 10:29

Came down this morning and all the roses had died :( they'd drunk all the water I'd put in yesterday.

Oh well floor cleaning today!

PolkadotRosa · 04/01/2015 10:32

Morning. Great curing efforts going on! Determined to get floors finished ready for new task tomorrow. Kids rooms left to do, and conservatory. Need to do the floor of my car too, biscuits, dried mud and raisins aint sitting well with the new, in control, January me!! Then off for a nice family walk. Catch up later.

PolkadotRosa · 04/01/2015 10:37

Oh karbea that's crap re: roses! Were they near a radiator or something?
Whoops Wips that must've been some vigorous vacuuming. Hope it's recovered! Pine needles are a pain. I need to do ours today too! Eugh.

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 04/01/2015 10:52

Oh, wow, I'm doing this (did it last year too) and it's so good to see an MN thread on it!

Those who are sceptical, it's not really supposed to be something that sets up a routine, I think the floors thing is a trick to get you to really look at every inch of your house and go through it properly - if you clean the floors in the super thorough way they say then you'll end up decluttering or at least making piles of stuff to declutter, seeing which areas of the house are neglected and which are fine, finding that favourite sock you thought you lost etc. it really did make my house look awesome until about March (then I got sick and ended up having the worst year health wise with constant hospital trips and 3 operations, hoping for a much more prosperous 2015!!)

holmessweetholmes · 04/01/2015 12:03

Carpets hoovered, hard floors washed. And then the puppy brought a stick in from the garden and chewed it all over the hall carpet.

Chimichangaz · 04/01/2015 12:14

Had a family crisis yesterday and spent most of the day at a relatives so that scuppered my plans. Busy day today too, but have throughly cleaned downstairs floors, incl pulling out sofas. Found a sock, £1 and a number of dust bunnies Blush

WipsGlitter · 04/01/2015 13:24

I think was the sheer volume that defeated it. It overheated but is fine now.

Karbea · 04/01/2015 14:02

polka no they were just in the kitchen, very odd. Anyway they are looking Perkier now.

IDidNotKnowThat · 04/01/2015 16:09

How's everyone doing? I've just done downstairs again Hmm although admit I haven't mopped the kitchen this time... Have done general tidying, changed bed and 2 loads of washing tho, so not going to feel too guilty! Looking forward to the next task (I think).

Karbea · 04/01/2015 16:32

I've done upstairs included washing floors and carpets. I'm just looking at our living room now, it's going to be a massive task as there are 3 piles of washing, an old TV stand, a bath (don't ask)... I've hoovered without moving anything, but it would be great to wash the carpet.
Dh has decided to start decorating the dining room and doesn't want to stop to help me move things. The stair are impossible to wash on my own as well.
Having a era break and will get on in a sec...
