How many loads of washing do you do a day?

I am a Mum of two young girls, with a husband who works away during the week and brings home minimal laundry but creates a bit when home! (Running gear etc).

He says I make my life harder than need be by doing too much laundry.

I wash beds once a week (unless girls wet the bed), towels about the same, or twice a week but bath mats and hand towels more...girls uniforms daily. I do, on average, 2 loads of laundry (big machine though) a day. Often more though if blankets or sofa covers need doing.

How much do you do? Trivial issue but bugging me as my husband constantly bangs on about it.

I do loads of laundry by the way but the house is in perpetual chaos and mess!!!

Uniform only if it looks dirty or smells

Verycold · 05/02/2014 21:09

Why bath mats more than once a week?

Meglet · 05/02/2014 21:10

2, sometimes 3 loads a day.

Me and 2 DC's. Their muddy uniform daily (although they have 5 changes, I just like to get it clean), my work clothes, my gym clothes, pj's changed every other day, towels washed after nearly every use.

Verycold · 05/02/2014 21:11

Where do you dry it all? Shock

AHardDaysWrite · 05/02/2014 21:12

Uniforms every day? Clean shirts every day, but jumpers/trousers/skirt only once a week unless stained. Blazers hardly ever really.

All towels once a week and bedding once a fortnight here. Adults wear clean tops/shirts daily but keep trousers on the go for a few days. Everyone has clean underwear daily and the three year old usually has all clean clothes daily as his trousers get mud, paint, food etc on them. Ditto the baby. I do one load a day.

2Adults, 2children^

gamerchick · 05/02/2014 21:13

2 or 3 loads a day - 9kg drum.. but we only use towels once. If I slack off the pile that appears drives me nuts.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 05/02/2014 21:15

Probably 3 or 4 a day.

And I change my bedlinen when there's an E in the mnoth.

LadySlatternly · 05/02/2014 21:15

Bathmats because they get soaked by 2 year old splashing them and they never dry properly and then need freshening up.

Meglet...i am same as you...

0.75 loads a day! (5 loads a week). One of those will be non-domestic (my work equipment, but not work clothing).

Myself, DH, and a four year old. Clean tops & undies daily for all - trousers, skirts less often.

ouryve · 05/02/2014 21:23

2 adults, 2 filthy children and about 10-12 loads a week, depending on the time of year and how many smaller loads of more delicate stuff are done. Their uniforms are generic supermarket/chain store stuff, rather than anything expensive, so i have enough polo shirts for the week and at least 3 jumpers and pairs of trousers, so I don't have to wash those things every day.

We have rubber backed bath mats and they normally last 2-3 weeks before they get manky, as i lift them in between baths. I also have 2 of them, so I just wash them when they're both dirty.

Babiecakes91 · 05/02/2014 21:23

I do 3-4 washings a weeks but my ds is 2 so I'm sure when he goes to school there will be more x

TeaAndFag · 05/02/2014 21:24

As a general rule, one load a day. If not going out that day, I'll keep chucking loads in until the wash basket is empty.

Pollaidh · 05/02/2014 21:25

I am obviously a slattern.
Bed clothes - winter fortnightly unless ill, bodily fluids.
Bath mats - erm, every 3 months probably.
Towels - weekly.
Shirts and sports gear - daily.
Other stuff - as vomited on. Which always happens before it could actually get dirty (i.e. about 15 minutes after I put it on).

Most days I do 1-2 loads. Currently have newborn who gets through about 5 outfits a day plus 1 at nursery who gets through 1-2 outfits a day. 1 sporty husband and I do sport most days too. So up to 5 loads a day (including 1-2 delicate loads).

TeaAndFag · 05/02/2014 21:29

Oh, and towels washed twice a week. Bed linen once a week.

LadySlatternly · 05/02/2014 21:29

Can you imagine if we all lived in times with no washing machines and had to do it all by hand? I'd be a right grub then...
