How many loads of washing do you do a day?

I am a Mum of two young girls, with a husband who works away during the week and brings home minimal laundry but creates a bit when home! (Running gear etc).

He says I make my life harder than need be by doing too much laundry.

I wash beds once a week (unless girls wet the bed), towels about the same, or twice a week but bath mats and hand towels more...girls uniforms daily. I do, on average, 2 loads of laundry (big machine though) a day. Often more though if blankets or sofa covers need doing.

How much do you do? Trivial issue but bugging me as my husband constantly bangs on about it.

I do loads of laundry by the way but the house is in perpetual chaos and mess!!!

I do a load every other day, and that ticks along nicely.

Me, dp, 2yo and 8mo.
Bedding if it smells or if dds nappy leaks.
Towels when I remember once a month?.... Maybe longer..
Bath mats, see above

My house looks like a wash shop as it is, I refuse to do any more.. Even if I needed to then I can't as I have nowhere to dry it!

Towels, bedding, swim kit if we go etc all ends up at my Nan's to be washed and dried due to space constraints.
Cut down and relax!

Washing loose covers, cushion covers etc on a weekly basis cos your house feels 'fresh'?!

I usually open the windows for a good airing.

Each to their own I know..... but I agree with posters talking about the environmental impact. I think society has gone mad with the idea of cleanliness. I probably do a load a day in good weather (to take advantage of good drying weather) otherwise it's about 5 loads a week. If it's rubbish weather, I try and avoid doing a load. I have a dryer but I really dislike using it so I always put clothes outside to dry (under cover) even if the weather is awful as it does remove some of the moisture.

I'm always trying to reduce the amount I do. Not easy as DH is very much 'wear something once and put it straight in the machine'. Even the kids are starting to adopt this attitude. It drives me nuts. It's just so wasteful.

I read something somewhere - can't remember now - about the health benefits to wearing clothes more than once and washing less. It made sense to me. Something about allergies and being better for our immune systems.
