4 bags for the charity shop: new jewelled shoes bought in Rome on a whim, 2 pairs of earings, gifts sets from Space NK and M & S for scents I don't like, computer games from DS, lancome lipsticks from GWP in colours that would not suit, books bought last month from Amazon & read; also 4 lots of washing done and hanging in futility room for next trip to charity shop - I will never have a 26 inch waist again so it has to go.....

What stopped me decluttering before was realising things were worth money and the intention to sell them on ebay but it will take up too much time so I've just decided to give them away.

Can I join? I'm a bit late but off to the kitchen drawers...

This is going to take longer than 40 days....

Day 2 - the washing I did yesterday for the charity shop is done, v v hard to let go of lovely, hardly worn Thomas Pink shirt.

Went through another half sack from the loft and the vast majority will be going to the charity shop after washing.

On the plus side I found a bag of L'Occitane things I had been meaning to give as Christmas gifts and DH had tidied away and an unworn gold necklace - I will sell that.

Had a second wind yesterday and cleaned out three drawers in the kitchen - threw away some old slightly rusty utencils. This morning have gone through a sack of socks and got rid of all the odd outgrown ones; 15 of yesterday's washed tems for the charity shop; next lot of charity stuff washed and on line. This must be catching - DH has just taken 3 bags of garden waste, 1 bike and 1 scooter to the dump - not for landfill, the recyclling bit. Today's find - a violin!

ThreeTomatoes, you sound a lot less cluttered and more organised than us. I really think if I throw away 20 things a day I will be lucky to finish before Christmas. Anyway, today three more freshly washed items for the charity shop and a good lot on the line; ventured into the garage and opened one of the boxes of books - 10 books and 2 boxes of flashcards straight away - this time I will leave them at the free book shelf at the cinema as I picked up two great books there yesterday.

Must say DH and DS have a lot less stuff than me but even DH has remembered that he has at least two suits that are massively too big for him (1 DJ worn twice!!) so they will have to go.

LadyLapsang · 18/08/2013 09:44

Heard DH talking to the neighbour's cat yesterday - 'don't go in the house, you'll end up at the dump!'

pumpkinsweetie · 18/08/2013 09:45

Been crap so far the last few days, gave away a bag of school uniform is all i can add to the listConfused

Think i'll do much better when dc are back at school! First i have to tackle my 2 drawers full of paperwork, my pantry shelfs, my laundry basket as the bottom is filled with junkGrin

Those above will be a start! Writing it here so i eventually get round to doing it!

Well done to those that have kept upSmile

I've fallen off the plan a bit but did manage to sort through part if my wardrobe & chucked out loads of cheap t-shirts.
(Have bought a few pricier ones to replace then though)
Also got my 'too big' (in case of pg) clothes down from loft to give away.
And sorted heaps of bras - thinking of Oxfam?
Need to get back on track but I think the next challenge being my desk has stalled me!

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 20/08/2013 15:25

One small bag out to charity collection. Bundle of paperwork recycled/shredded. Slow slow slow

JKSLtd · 20/08/2013 17:54

Box of clothes passed onto student daughter of friend.
Some bf bits & slings passed onto new mum friend.

So much still to do!

MegaClutterSlut · 21/08/2013 10:17

I have been doing really crap lately but have managed to sort some of DD's toys to sell on fb :) just need to put them on there this evening and hope people will take away the crap toys

There is so much that needs to go as we are big bootsale fans so have a lot of stuff but hoping to be completely clutter free by Christmas so there is space for all the new crap Hmm

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 22/08/2013 08:00

Another small declutter - old V tech lappy in bin- no good for charity as some wires on mouse are loose. Also ELC keyboard found and hidden before dd2 starts her Liberace act on it to a disco beat. So in new charity bag with a bundle of clothes I haven't worn for 10 years. 5 pairs of shoes in there too.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 22/08/2013 12:38

I've just gone utterly bananas and revisited my wardrobe. I have now filled 10 carrier bags with my clothes, shoes and bags. I won't be naked because I don't wear or use them, in fact I've no idea why I bought them. I've also filled a bin bag with stuff for the tip and found some unused glass wear under the spare bed from my Wedding gift list 10 years ago so I guess I don't need that either.

One point I need help on. I've found my wedding shoes- they are nothing special, very simple midi heels, cream silky fabric. I could never wear them again even if I dyed them because they are so out of style but I feel I should keep them even though I don't LOVE them or use them- they've been sitting in a box, in another box, under a bed for ten years!

Convince me they should go in the pile PLEASE!!

ZingWantsCake · 22/08/2013 18:26

sorry for neglect but we are still on holiday.
well done on all your achievements!

it's my birthday tomorrow and I'm planning some wonderful changes.
I will start my 40 days decluttering mission when the kids are back in school, but will do loads of sorting and organizing next week anyway (school clothes, other clothes, mending things, cleaning fridge, sorting books and toys) which will give me a headstart.

JKSLtd · 22/08/2013 18:54

Re wedding shoes - I got mine dyed black and I do wear them for dressy events.
If you really don't think you'd wear them then I'd give them away. Some charity shops have a special wedding section?
Take a pic of them and put with wedding stuff?
Or tbh keep if they mean that much, you don't have to get rid of everything yet :)

I have piled up a massive amount of baby/kids clothes for MIL's refuge, plus some kid equipment, and I've found all the bits for the old p&t, plus instructions if the refuge will take it.

Also went through instructions pile and recycled quite a few for things we don't need.
And found sling instructions for friend's daughter.

Also sorted through boys clothes x 2, got rid of some, checked uniform for going back (have plenty, for now anyway).
Still need to do DD.

And had a massive sort through of shoes - we have tonnes of pairs, too big, too small, etc. Need the DC to try some on but have a huge pile for the refuge.

BadPoet · 22/08/2013 21:52

Hello! I'm going to join in if you don't mind? We have the builders starting in a couple of weeks - it's only the upstairs they'll be working on but trying to clear the whole house, idea being that then it'll be easier to pile displaced stuff there for a bit. Plan is also to sort the garage from a massive junk heap into the laundry room/workshop/storage room of our dreams, before they start.

Done loads over the holidays, 2 car loads to recycling centre (mostly from garage), another boot load of books alone to book drop and about 15 bin bags on top of that - rubbish and clothes. Garage mostly cleared and half painted, new Ikea shelves bought. Need to book plumber to shift washing machine...another trip to dump needed too.

I found this thread today and am going to follow the 40 day plan, will have to condense it (a bit! - luckily have already done some of the days.) But started this evening with the cutlery drawer which is now lovely and clear, I did my utensil drawer at Easter and it is still decluttered which just goes to to show if you get it working for you it'll stay that way Smile.

Everyone here seems to be making great strides and I'm feeling more motivated already!
