Autumn organisation for slatterns old and new with support/advice and mugs of tea

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 01/10/2012 09:38

I thought it was time for a new Autumnal thread for all slatterns.

This thread is welcome to all who like to write lists or have loads of jobs to get done or if you need a kick up the bum for motivation. Also good for support with relationships, random advice on moths and birthday cakes!

We welcome new slatterns, post your lists here.

Back in a sec with my list.

Blimey JKS, you are sorted for christmas! I thought I was doing okay having bought a few things but you have got yours wrapped.

For me ths week is just about surviving as opposed to getting anything done. DH is away with work and my parents (my back up) are away too. This is also the week I'm changing my work hours for the first time in fve years and my other work partner is drastically reducing her hours (thus dramatically increasing my work load).

Moan over. Today I have a kids party so if I could just make a pasta sauce with the veg in the fridge and get bags ready for tomorrow I'll be happy.

JKSLtd · 04/11/2012 14:30

I haven't wrapped anything, yet. Have the 3 large rolls for the 3 DC and could wrap whenever I get a free minute but it hasn't happened over half-term. On the list to do asap though so they can't discover everything and spoil the surprise.

Dh is also away with work this week, until Mon. Hoping my brother can come for the weekend, esp Sat am football to help out.
DS2 has tomorrow off school so only have to organise DS1. Done some nametapes & printer last photo for the class toy's diary.

Still need to:

  • write diary entry & stick photo in
  • pack DS1's bag with new sports kit & (sodding) class toy
  • do some more reading if poss as we've slacked off a bit oops
  • DH lighting fire (hooray!)
  • roast x 5 & tidy up
  • DC bath & bed
  • tv & bed (early night needed)

Ongoing:

  • family tree (scanning in old certs & photos & email contact); Dug out files to start again
  • buy frames to hang on the wall & hang up as many photos as poss; need some sizes; get sizes into phone for TKMaxx trip
  • lose weight! (From: 66kg; Target: 54kg); Scales said 55.1; stuck atm
  • sort wills; nudge DH to see what he wants to do
  • clear out of the top of my desk
  • kids photos albums; upload onto Snapfish; order printouts; put in albums. Step 1; sort all photos on iPhoto Doing
  • try and sell unwanted light? eBay + other stuff?
  • order new raincover for buggy
  • start cycling with DD to playgroups after half-term

Christmas:

  • wrap DC presents bought so far (pretty near finished shopping I think, just a few stocking fillers maybe)
  • list what food I've already bought (choc tin, biscuit tin, cracker box, Choc tree decorations...)
  • find out if younger brother might be coming?
  • wait to see if parents book cruise or come to us
  • early Christmas with PIL prep
  • get advent calendars

hey HMHB :)

DS2 had a seizure on Sun afternoon :( He didn't need to go to hosp and just slept for 15hours straight afterwards. We could see it coming weirdly, he was very off all day.
He's gone to school today though as back to his usual self. Yesterday he was horrid, ending up with biting my thumb & drawing blood at bedtime - all because he wanted to keep the same Thomas pj top on that he'd had on all day & the night before.
This morning he saw his school uniform and took off the pj's & demanded 'clean clothes please' Hmm

Need to contact GOSH to let them know, have already left message with local consultant but he's away atm.

JKS - hope your son is ok, I can't even imagine how traumatic it was for everyone.

My DH came home early from working away which means there is more of a hope of getting things done. I'm definitely running under power, have self diagnosed a kidney infection (I'm not a doctor but don't let that minor point get in the way of my diagnosis).

I have looked at the Callander and realised that I don't have a single free weekend between now and Christmas! Panick is creeping in at the edges!!!

GummiberryJuice · 06/11/2012 18:51

Jks hope you are alright, how long is it from his last attack

I have been very slatternly when it comes to lists think I might sit down and type a more long term one, things I want done before Xmas or something to that effect

JKSLtd · 06/11/2012 20:01

Gummi - you may have noticed I rather like the list-writing bit Grin

DS2 is ok thanks, he used to have a very sever form of epilepsy called Infantile Spasms and had hundreds of szs a day. In fact, according to his EEG he was constantly in a seizure-state.
He had a tumour removed from his brain (non-cancerous) 3 Christmases ago (23rd Dec 2009) and was sz-free until Feb this year when he had one. We hoped it was a one-off, maybe even a febrile convulsion, we'll never know. But all the build-up to Sundays one implies epilepsy again. But it won't be as devastating developmentally as it was before but still, not ideal.

Hi HMHB, have a good time.

Sod's law with DH being away, DS2 has decided to start waking early again (5.20 today) & i feel like death warmed up. Major coughing fits & general urgh. When do you decide it's something serious like bronchitis or just a cough? Hmm

Started wrapping today :) didn't get far though, not found a long enough time period to get stuck into it.

Hello all.

Mad busy week for me at work so house has definitely suffered. DD has a vomiting bug and I don't think I have done so much washing in my life. I also managed to fit in some of the kids' present shopping, this is the first year I have embraced Internet shopping.

JKS hope your feeling better soon.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 12/11/2012 16:30

Hi Slattern. vomiting bug is cruel. You need loads of people to help out

  1. person who cleans up sick
  2. person who washes clothes
  3. person who tends to ill people
  4. person being ill

I too am trying to get Xmas shopping done, done 3 presents today huzzah.

Hello! Didn't want to start a whole new thread and thought this might be a handy place to barge in and ask...

What does everyone here do with the padded wrapping stuff you get when you have a parcel delivered? I have filled practically a bin bag full of giant plastic padding, large bubble type things, but sadly not pop-able in quite the same way.

Feel unaccountably guilty sending a load of plastic and air to the tip, let alone the fact it has taken up a bin bag space in the bin where there is only space for 2 bin bags!

Just wondering what everyone else does - anyone found another use for them?

JKSLtd · 13/11/2012 14:47

We can recycle that kind of plastic so i pop/cut all the bubbles/air pockets, squish it all down and put in the recycling.
Otherwise i would bag it up & freecycle :)

Ullena · 13/11/2012 15:34

Hello, I think I belong on this thread Grin as I am prone to lists! I just finished the floors, DH has been scrubbing the yard and front steps.

Still to do today:
Laundry (about 3 loads Blush)
Dishes
Top up the fish tank
Paint the kitchen

Tomorrow:
Paint the living room
Usual household stuff

Next day:
Sort through whatever has piled up in the loft; really need to get to the charity shops, etc!
Get on with the back garden...any advice on what can be done with a bog?

ATourchOfInsanity · 13/11/2012 15:44

I wish we had a better recycling option - I have to carry the glass to the local bank with the buggy which is a bit clanky!

Oooh is this a thread where we get to go over all of the housework? I am feeling a bit rushed as a friend has decided to pop around and kindly offered me a lift to nursery to pick up DD - sadly means I miss the last 1.5hrs of time I had to clean etc. I put DD into nursery 2 days a week so I can clean and relax. Never get to the latter though!

So far today I have:
Dropped DD off at nursery - 40min walk each way
Done Christmas shopping - nothing more to buy :)
Unpacked shopping and bagged it into people piles and hidden in cupboard
Sorted two large bowls of junk
Gone through 4 cupboards and ruthlessly chucked out tupperware with no lids/bottles with no lids etc
Mopped floors
Tidied DD's room
Cleaned surfaces
Done 2 washes
Put away laundry
Filled dishwasher and put on
Sorted craft box and added to it
Emptied both recycling and normal bin
Crushed 8 boxes and piled together for recycling

No time for hoovering, cleaning fridge and sorting paperwork now, but will have to wait for Thurs when DD is in nursery next.
